I was making something in the toaster oven.
And I was getting the oven glove to get it out.
So I go to pick up the tray and the mit, bursts on fire.
I was alone when it happened, so I was freaking.
Granted I probably would have have freaked if my whole family was there, but still.
So I threw the mit off my hand and into the sink and soaked it. It blackened, but thankfully there wasn't a hole into it.
I washed it and its still "alive" today. :]
Oh and I set a tree on fire.
But it was hosed down, so..
Thats also alive today.
But it charred. ._______.

Besides the usual charred marshallow.
;D

Oh god. XD I have never accidentally completely set something ablaze, but...there have been a couple times when I came close.

At one point, shortly after I got my copy of HP7, the power went out while I was reading it. It was too dark to continue without some kind of help, and I couldn't find a flashlight...so I tried using a lighter.

Now, my right hand doesn't work the way it should. It's good for fine movements (such as drawing), but ANYTHING else? Lifting strength, ability to stay in one place, ability to coordinate with my left? Pretty much not there.

I stopped when the lighter dipped so close to the book that I got a burn mark on the corner of the page.

Also, my dog almost burned the house down a couple weeks ago. We didn't see it happen, but we assume the story goes something like this:

My dad left a pan of brownies on the stove (this is about all that we know). I had to leave to go to the doctor, and my dad had to go back to work. The dog was left alone.

Well, she decided that she wanted the brownies. So she tried to get up on the stove...and stepped on one of the knob things that turns the stove on.

Right under the pan.

So, the heat scared her, and she backed off. And when I came back...the house was full of smoke, with flaming brownies on the stove. Thankfully, the burning was confined to the pan.

Note to EVERYONE with medium-large dogs: NEVER, and I do mean NEVER leave anything flammable on the stove.

c0th -
That would be scary. I mean, just looking down and realizing ' Holy crap, I'm on fire!' has to be pretty shocking.

Lolly -
The oven mit burst into flames? o_o That's strange.

Fullmetal Phantom -
Wow, you're lucky that the brownies didn't catch anything else on fire. That could've been a disaster. Bad dog. xD

Lolly 12-15-2007 08:11 AM

Yes, I know.
.-.;;
But It did.
And they were hot too.
XD;
The Tip of it was the first part that caught onto fire which felt like the softest and least covered part.
And the it started going down further. Until I soaked it in the sink and then of course it stopped.
I've accidentally touched the Toaster Oven's Warming Bars before though with a mit on my hand. On the highest setting too.
o______.;
And it didn't catch on fire.
Must have been some, odd mit.
x-x;

I may have... accidentally put them in for 21 minutes, instead of two minutes and ten seconds. :(

Raining Skittles 12-16-2007 08:00 AM

It's ironic, I like setting things on fire, but I'm afraid of fire XD

When I was a small child, I was just learning how to use a toaster. My mom has just made herself from toast with jam on it, and I asked her "How'd you do that?"
Her reply was a simple "I just put jam on it." So being the 'smart' child I was, I grabbed two slices of white bread, slapped some grape jam on them, and shoved em in the toaster. Then I left to sit in my room. About a minute later I hear my dad running down the hall and into the kitchen. I follow, and my toaster is on fire! I'm freaking out, thinking I broke the toaster. Apparently, you're supposed to but jam on after you toast the bread XD!

A bit sooner then that, I was working on a project for english. We were aloud to make the paper look old and burn the sides of our paper. So I do that, and I'm gently blowing out the fire before it gets huge. I was holding the flaming paper over out trashcan, and soon enough, a flaming chunk of papery ash falls on the garbage bag, and sets it on fire. I'm screaming "FIRE! OH MY GOD TRASHCAN IS ON FIRE!" and my mom runs in, fills a cup with water, and douses the fire out. That was...I think the first time I was really afraid of fire, since it burned me D;

Sorry, I didn't catch this post before now. >3<

Yeah, I don't trust her stove at all now. o_o Mine has never set on fire! ... Oh, wait. Yes, it did. One time, when I was like six, I was staring at the oven and I turned to my parents and was like, "Why is the oven light still on?" and Sue was like "It isn't." and I said, "Yes it is..." and she goes into the kitchen. Next thing I know, she has the fire extinguisher out... xD But other than that!

xD I just sort of looked at my finger blankly for a millisecond, and then yelled and shook my hand slightly to get it off. That didn't work, but it burned out really quickly, thank god P:

gamefreak1993 12-16-2007 02:12 PM

when i was in maybe 3rd grade, my sister was baking clay in the toaster oven and left it going while we went to go rent some movies. we returned to the house about 45 minutes later and found that there were 2 firetrucks outside our house. the firemen ha busted out the window in our door to open it and put out the fire. the clay was charred and the toaster was given a proper burial in the dumpster. my cat was later found cowering beneath my bed xD

shes so funny >w<

Thunder 12-17-2007 04:22 PM

Lolly -
Maybe something flammable had been spilled on it?

V!rtual Insanity -
Oops? I bet that was fun to clean up.

Raining Skittles -
You can do some pretty funny things when you're a kid. xD Did your mom remember to explain things better from then on?

TheSatah -
I'm starting to see that ovens can be very dangerous. o.O

gamefreak1993 -
Wow, you're lucky the firefighters showed up and put it out before it got out of hand.

Mynx 12-18-2007 12:33 AM

Since I don't own a toaster or a toaster oven.. I always use the big oven and set it to broil and put the rack all the way up to the top so the bagel/toast isn't so far away.
I've experimented quite a bit with it so I've gotten the time I have to set it to so it won't burn. But before that, it was horrible, I'd always burn things and set it on fire! XD

Karoukoo 12-22-2007 09:43 PM

lol wow.
i remeber once.
It was my little sisters birthday
and so that morning
i decided hey
why dont i make you pancakes for your birthday?

well my boyfriend came over in the morning and we went out for breakfast first and came back and i decided to make them then *it was about 10 in the morning* I mixed the mix and prepared the pans and got everything ready and such and i put the pan on the heat...
Well.. as soon as i put the butter on the WHOLE pan lit on fire and it scared the crap out of me. i paniced and was like OMG OMG A FIRE ! and i put it out with water.
But the most embarrising part is that i cook really good and the one time my bf was there to watch me i lit the pan on fire and it was on my sisters birthday. The whole house was FOGGED in thick smoke. The funny thing was that we had a fire station across the street from me too so if anything bad did happen then the firefighters would problly be there in a matter of seconds to put the mess out =]

but it was a really really embarising moment lol i just look at it now and still go.. why did it have to be that day with everyone lol

Caitlyn 12-22-2007 09:47 PM

Oooh, I have a tendency to set things accidentally on fire all the time.

Like once, the light bulb in my room had burned out and we didn't have any extras, so I took the lid off of my aquarium and propped it up on this orange recliner chair I had in the corner of my room to shed a little bit of light in my room. I forgot to turn it off on my way out, and when I came back an hour later, my room was smoking, as my cat had knocked the light over and it was burning a hole through the cushion.

I've set my kitchen stove on fire several times.

I set a crayon on fire once, somehow.

I lit a rubber band on fire and accidentally burned a hole through my blanket.

The extension cord in my parents room caught on fire when i was in here and it spread to the carpet...

There are so many scorch marks on the floors of this house xD

Ruki 12-23-2007 03:09 AM

I've set my hair on fire while smoking on a windy day... XD' Not the brightest thing I've done.

Also in my dorm in college, we had the fire alarm go off periodically, and ninety-nine percent of the time the reason was someone caught their popcorn on fire....

I also knew a guy in a different dorm who caught ramen on fire. Yes, ramen. He never ceased to amaze me.

wizardharri 12-23-2007 04:02 AM

one time i hung a lantern in a tree and it caught on fire.

kitkat 12-23-2007 05:14 AM

One time me and my friends family were in a
trailer and I was leaning against the stove and my hair
kinda burn off, kinda, only like 1/4th of an inch on the
bottom. I was SO embarrassed! Another time I was at
school and a stupid kid brought a lighter or something
and lit something on fire, the next second there was a
flame under a bench, and I started to panick, but only
part of the bench caught on fire and the teachers put
it out. the teachers didn't even mention it later,
trying to cover it up xD

Morbid Searaphim 12-23-2007 06:07 AM

well actually i was supposed to be watching my cousin, but i was on Mene instead and he somehow got a hold of Strike-Anywhere matches... and some lighter fluid... He saw an episode of Fresh Prince of Bel Air where will tries to make banana flambe so my cousin decided to try. He got a pan put a banana in it squirted way too much lighter fluid on, struck a match and FWOOSH fire in the house. i didn't notice it until i heard screaming. as it turns out he put the pan on the ground to get a better look at the fire and he caught his pants on fire.

he was ok he actually remembered to stop, drop and roll. and i got the fire extinguisher before the kitchen burned down

well you know what they say, liar liar pants on fire

Thunder 12-23-2007 04:11 PM

Karoukoo -
Things always go wrong when there's people watching you. xD That's really good that you have a fire station that close though.

Caitlyn -
A crayon... o.O What in the world were you doing?

Ruki -
Holy crap, it would be terrifying to catch your hair on fire, I think. It didn't burn much, did it?

Morbid Searaphim -
xD That made me giggle. Glad no one got hurt though. {At least not too bad, I think.)

JuliaV 12-23-2007 04:16 PM

lmao That's hilarious. XDD

Well, this one time me and my sister were burning some paper for my project [we were giving it that old look] and so we didn't know that ink was flammable [lmao] it cought on fire. I just froze while my sister was putting it out with water that we put next to us juuust in case. lol
Afterwards, [when it was out] my sister was like "Thanks for helping me!" lol We laughed about it after. XDD

Ebil 12-23-2007 04:20 PM

I set my hand and arm on fire once >.<
I spilled some aftershave on my hand by accident and then forgot about it. Then decided to play with a cigarette lighter. I R Smart :o
WHOSH
I was too stunned to do anything for a second and my dad picked that exact moment to walk in to the room @[email protected]
Fortunately I managed to flap around and put myself out with no more damage than burning all the hair off my arm.
My dad, rather than attempting to help put the fire out or see if I was okay decided that it was a good time to yell at me for setting myself of fire
"DON'T DO THAT EVER AGAIN!" ... gee thanks for that advice. I was planning on doing it every Tuesday @[email protected]

Letisha 12-23-2007 08:01 PM

I just remember leaving the iron on..while everyone was sleeping. It was kinda funny how everybody panicked, but I was sorta worried as well. Anyway, no one was hurt, so I guess that was okay.

Sadistix_Love 12-23-2007 08:03 PM

Lol! Nope, never. I avoid anything dangerous.

Queen Fool 12-23-2007 08:43 PM

Well, I was making potato chips at like 11 PM last night, and I turned my back to wash my hands. While I was doing that, the smoke alarm went off, and I assumed it was a fire and screamed.

It woke my dad up and he had to disconnect the sensor downstairs so I could finish cooking.

Faye 12-23-2007 08:50 PM

  • I probably have lit something on fire on accident. Just nothing seems to come to my mind right now. I usually like to burn things just for the Hell of it. Kind of a pyro right here? xD;

Uh, and yeah, I'm pretty much can be really useless and laugh my ass off. Especially with serious things are happening. I don't know, I just find many things hysterical.

Hokuto 12-23-2007 11:29 PM

One time when I was little I remember the toaster caught on fire and so I walked out of the kitchen and to my mom and said "Mommy, dad set the kitchen on fire" and thats about all I remember about that. XD
But this other time I was stupid enough to put tin foil in the microwave... I forgot the food was wrapped in foil because it was in a paper bag so I just threw the whole thing in. I turned around and when I turned back the bag was on fire so panicked and threw the bag in the sink and poured water on it. The microwave was fine and the food was kind of wet... but I was hungry so I ate it anyways.

Luumi 12-24-2007 01:20 AM

A year or two ago I wanted to make some lunch. I got a can of ravioli out of the pantry, put it in a pot, then started cooking it on the stove. All would have been fine, except that I had accidently used a plastic pot on the electric stove.

My sister noticed this a few minutes later, and after we had turned the heat off we discovered that my ravioli had burned on the bottom. Also, the pot had melted to the stove and we had to pry it off with a table knife.

We had to throw the pot away, but it could have ended much worse. I'm incredibly thankful that I had been using an electric stove instead of a gas one. I shudder to think I could have set my house on fire out of carelessness.

And that's why I don't cook much anymore.
