"Merry Christmas, now claw open your present :)"

Do you get your pets presents for Christmas? I bought my dog a shrimp sushi dog toy and a water bowl shaped like a Chinese takeout box. And I bought my cats catnip mice. And boy was it fun chasing them around the house all day, trying to get them to open them. I ended up just doing it myself though, and only 1 out of 4 actually played with it. ;_;
But oh well, I was just glad to learn that my cat actually knows how to play. xD
Usually he just lays around the house.

So have you ever gotten Christmas presents for your pets? If so what, and did they actually open it?

Sagitar 12-26-2007 10:44 AM

my pet hamster got a bigger place to run around :3
it's huge, bigger than the drawer beneath it xD
she loves it :3 we even put a little christmas lights for her (so that she can't reach them).
and ofcourse, some christmas hamster chocolate ^^

V!rtual Insanity 12-26-2007 10:58 AM

Aw~ n.n
If only I could hang Christmas lights on my dog. xD

So they make hampster chocolate? I wonder if it's the same stuff they make dog chocolate out of...

Sagitar 12-26-2007 11:15 AM

I guess it's pretty much the same thing :3 non-sugary stuff .. but a little smaller than those for dogs ^^

have you ever tasted dog chocolate by the way? xD

V!rtual Insanity 12-26-2007 11:22 AM

...Maybe. ~.~

Ok, yes.

girl_4327 12-26-2007 12:29 PM

I guess..
But it wasn't me who gave the gift..
Ours is a family pet by the way.. so my uncle was the one who gave the gift..
and uh..
I don't remember, but our dog received some kind of special food.. and he ate it..
Our dog eats everything that could enter his mouth..
and if I remember correctly, the soft bone(or whatever that was) was wrapped with a ribbon, and our dog ate everything. yes, including the ribbon...

tigerangel 12-26-2007 12:38 PM

Our dogs got a duck and hedgehog plushie, some jerky treats and a bag of white chocolate covered dog treats. They also got the bones from the prime rib roast after dinner was over.
We always get Christmas gifts for our two huskies, since they are part of the family to us.

kuroitsuki 12-26-2007 12:59 PM

Wow, that's so nice of you to give your beloved pets some Christmas presents.

-recalls if I've given my pets Christmas presents before-

I can hardly recall any material stuff I've given out to my previous pets. n_n;;
But we see to it that we give them a very nice meal on holidays like these... and of course, we give them our love. :3

Peppermint 12-26-2007 01:44 PM

  • Well i know i clawed my prezzies.
    ANd they were nice too.
    TOns of money. $.$

Shadowfflur 12-26-2007 01:58 PM

Yup, this year my pup got a soccer ball (since she loves running with it) and a new bed for her kennel. ^^ She enjoys both, plus my hubby and I took her to the dog park yesterday to run around.

My mom always hangs a stocking for her dog. Its usually filled with lots of treats and a few toys. But we've always treated our dogs like part of the family, so its mean to leave them out of holidays.

Huggles 12-26-2007 02:45 PM

I don't have any pets , i wish i had one tought.
My parents doesn't want to have any pet in the house :(
IF i had a dog , i would buy him a big bone xD

woopdidoodoo 12-26-2007 02:50 PM

Omg my pet rabbit gave me a christmas prezzie
this year OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!
I came home tonight after having dinner at my
fiance's parents place again coz they wanted us
to help them eat their leftovers and we of course
obliged and helped out ^^ and I started making a
coffee in the kitchen as you do when we were home
and my cat Tyrone was staring at something on the
ground infront of him. He was looking at it oddly and I
couldn't see it at the time coz the light to that area wasn't
on so I turned it on and guess what it was? it was a baby
rabbit! but sadly Tyrones instinct had gotten the better of
him and he had "played with the newborn" and it had a nasty
gash over its stomach and my fiance had to put it out of its
misery. I looked in Snowys cage as she is half indoor house
rabbit and when we are not home or whatever like bedtime she
is in her cage and found five more babies. One had died of natural
causes as it was double the size of the other babies and had something
wrong with it but four have so far survived. We are thinking that they
were born anytime from yesterday morning when we left for Christmas
lunch to tonight when we left to go to dinner at his parents place. But I
am thinking somewhere this afternoon actually coz they were pretty cleaned up when I saw them all. I am so excited and hope that she will
be a good mum, I had no idea that she'd be preggers as I only put her
with my male once and it looked like that she wasn't taking any interest in
him at all but obviously she had! I am an Aunty now, what a great Christmas prezzie from her eh?

Maria-Minamino 12-26-2007 02:51 PM

My cat just loves the wrapping paper - he was opening our presents before WE were opening our presents - we'd come downstairs and some of the gifts would have holes where he would chew them open lol. So we just go him a box - put all the wrapping paper in it and he freaks out when he gets in there - he loves it so much. So that was his gift lol

Trinitydoll 12-26-2007 02:57 PM

Now I feel miserable...sigh I didnt give my kitty anything special...well uhm...I think I gave her a ribbon cause I dressed her up with it for xmas but no present...never thought about it to be honest cause i wouldnt know what to give her,...she is not really a baby and not interested in toys and she doesnt like any food exept for cat chow....so...idk..

Uzura 12-26-2007 03:04 PM

I've gotten little stuff for my cats, like catnip and toys. But we never wrap them. Though, I'm pretty sure if we gave our cats a wrapped gift, they could claw through it pretty easily xD

Aisha Woku 12-26-2007 06:31 PM

I didn't get my pets any presents this year; poor babies. In past years I've gotten treats for my puppy and cat toys for my kitties. xD They enjoyed their gifts very much. lol : )

ryuu 12-26-2007 06:38 PM

Usually we don't get our pets anything for holidays. One christmas we bought our rabbit her favorite kind of food but that was all.

Luumi 12-26-2007 07:03 PM

We give our dog Christmas presents, and as long as it's just wrapped in paper or in a bag, we let her tear through on her own. She doesn't need much encouragement. We just point to the bag and say something like "treat" or "toy" and she attacks it. Thankfully, she's not one of the dogs that likes to eat the paper or tear open her humans' gifts as well.

aphrodite remix 12-26-2007 07:05 PM

No I can't say that I've actually bought them a christmas present. Most friends that I have or people I know though that do own pets, are obsessed with them and go out of their way to get them a gift at christmas. I even have friends that hang stockings up for their cats and or dogs. I think its a little ridiculous. But hey to each their own.

shellthabunny 12-26-2007 07:19 PM

We got a new dog bed and some treats for my parents dog. She liked it.

Amp 12-26-2007 07:39 PM

I wanted to buy them something this year but my mom was in charge of getting the stuffs for christmas, but this year she said she couldn't find any. We have a male doggie and all she could find was female-doggie stuff. We got him a present last year, how ever :] He chewed it and now it's filled with so much dog saliva I don't wants to touch it. XD

V!rtual Insanity 12-26-2007 10:47 PM

@woopdidoodoo: Aw, I'm sorry about the two that didn't live... But still, that must have been a nice surprise on Christmas. We had goats that were born on Christmas one year and some of them died, but we were still pretty happy just to have the ones that didn't. :)
Did you name any of them Christmas-y names?

@Maria-Minamino: Our cats do that too. xD
And they love all the boxes. Not sure how they feel about the wrapping paper though, I should try that sometime.

@Trinitydoll: Yea, my cats don't really play much either, which is why I got them something not too expensive lol. And I wouldn't feel bad about it, I doubt she knew the difference really. I didn't get my cats something last year, and I know they didn't.

@Luumi: Lol, your dog must be either a lot smarter or a lot less lazy than mine.

@Amp: I could only find girl dog stuff at first too. xD
I was like, about to get him this purple dress. Then I saw the other stuff and was like "thank God."

Bellazure 12-26-2007 10:59 PM

I forgot to buy my hamster a Christmas present, so I made her a salad with cheese, lettuce, and cracker bits.

Mushy Kylo Hendricks 12-26-2007 11:02 PM

One year I got $400 worth of animal presents...my dog and cat didn't have a bed, and I bought them their own towels with pawprints, new food and water dishes, placemats, a crapload of toys, and a couple of rawhides. My rabbit also got a lot of toys and treats. :3 It was a lot of fun.

This year each of the animals got two presents apeice. :3 Well, kind of/sort of? XD The cats got one of those rod toys, two mice, and a package of crinkle balls. Then there was also an extra package that was for all the animals in general, and the dogs all got candycanes.

I don't mind spoiling my animals, but since they already have everything but toy-related items, it's really hard to actually get into it and buy a lot. I mean, after I got my second cat, I managed to buy her a bed right away, so that's covered. They get new blankets - I like to buy flannel receiving blankets and fleece ones too, because my cats love lying on those. :3

V!rtual Insanity 12-26-2007 11:08 PM

Wow! $400? I think that might be more than my mom spent on me. xD

You must be a really good pet owner.
