My Cat Smells So Good

ok, I know this is a bit random and strange, but this is based on something I've been observing for quite some time, especially recently. My cat smells really nice. You know that fresh laundry scent? The clean fabric softener aroma that comes from a soft, warm fresh set of laundry? Well, my cat's fur smells like that all the time. The reason he smells like that is because my cat really likes to keep himself clean. It's always a pleasure to hold him because of how wonderful he smells. I also enjoy how good he smells because I know it means I never have to worry about bathing him or be concerned about his personal hygiene. I also consider it a good sign that he enjoys and knows how to take care of himself.

I definitely appreciate how good he smells because my friend's cat doesn't smell that great. In fact my friend complains all the time about how awful her cat smells. Her cat is really obese, so her cat can't clean everywhere it needs to. Apparently, my friend feels the need to bathe and constantly shave off her cat's fur because of how bad the kitty smells all the time. According to her claims, the fur tends to clump too, and she complains the smell is so bad that she often wakes up in the middle of the night whenever the cat tries to cuddle next to her in bed because of how bad her cat smells.

So, onto the unusual topic: for those of you that have pets, do you have nice, clean smelling pets? Or do you have stinky pets? Do your pets just have a pet smell? (however you want to define a pet smell) Or do you just not notice how your pets smell? And I guess since it's related, do you also like that clean fresh laundry smell like I do? You can also post anything related to this topic: pet smell stories, pet bathing/hygiene stories, favorite scents you enjoy, etc.

edit - since people keep asking, no my cat does not sleep or go anywhere near the laundry or laundry detergent. the place where we keep our laundry (hampers/drawers) are always closed, and the laundry detergent is kept on an incredibly cramped shelf. so, it would be kind of impossible for him to go anywhere near the laundry. it's not just an occasional instance that he smells like that either. he has that clean laundry smell all the time. it's almost a permanent smell on him now. besides, i notice that after he goes outdoors he has an outdoors kind of smell, but directly after he bathes himself he has the "laundry" smell i described earlier. so yeah, it's not that he's been getting into the laundry. he just keeps himself really clean.

Does your cat sleep in laundry baskets??

My dog smells like poop always... I don't know why but she always seems to smell bad unles it is right after we give her a bath then she smells good.. but otherwise I do not even want to really go around here..

My rats tend to smell quite nice.
Most people would think they wouldn't. I mean, they are rats. It just goes to show...
You know those blocks of cedar people put in their dressers to keep their clothes from smelling funny? Kind of like that.

lol, no he doesn't sleep in laundry baskets, he just keeps himself really clean all the time. in fact we mainly keep our clothes either in drawers or in hampers, and i can't imagine him near either because they're both closed all the time. but how you described your dog's smell is very similar to how my friend describes how her cat smells. yeah, she really doesn't like the smell of her cat.

My cats often smell of laundry but that's because they sneak into the laundry basket when we're not looking XP

My one cat has really bad breath. We actually have to brush his teeth with cat toothpaste because his teeth are really nasty.

My other cat used to stink when he was a kitten. He was born in somebodies garden and was really scruffy. Now he's all grown up he doesn't smell bad though.

My cat sometimes smells good. (that is, if she doesn't go outside!)
I love animal odor though. (the good one.)
It smells natural.

My doggy smells nasty. o_o I think it's because he lives in a dog house outside and that he sits on his pee. >_< (by accident!)

Mine too...

It smells so good, and she's so warm...I could keep my nose in her fur all day.

Siannodel 12-27-2007 04:48 PM

My cat usually smells good, but lately he's smelled like poop. I snuggle him anyways.

shellthabunny 12-27-2007 04:49 PM

My cat's smell like cats. The only time they stink is when they go poop lol.

My current rat smells good as well, but his "brother", who is no longer with us, used to smell really, really badly.

My dog, Oscar, smells like sleep
o_o
He smells really nice and just makes me sleepy when I smell him xD
He sleeps on my bed with me, and if he's not there... I can't sleep lol
He keeps himself clean most of the time. A couple of times a year he decides to roll in cow pats or fox poop and then he gets a bath with baby shampoo, but fortunately most of the time he's lovely and clean.
I do brush his teeth often, as he tends to get icky breath if I don't.

EbilKitty 12-27-2007 05:31 PM

My cats usually smells like, well cat :lol: Some of them are show cats so they get bath before I take them to shows (a couple of times a year). They're clean indoor cats so it's not really necessary to bathe them.

But, the other day I noticed that my oldest male cat was really, really stinky. I went to bed and as usual he wanted to sleep in the bed with me, but he smelled so bad it made me sick so I had to throw him out of the bedroom and close the door. First thing the next morning I gave him a bath, and a bunch of used kitty litter(!) fell out of his fur when I started showering him. No wonder he smelled so bad! :lol: Now he smells all nice and clean.

I also have a detangler-spray that I use when I brush the cats (they're long-haired) which smells quite nice too.

My dog just smells like a dog, but it's a wonderful smell. It remeinds me of sugar cookies and dog biscuits. When we give her a bath, she smells so clean that it's practically intoxicating. And whenever she smells dirty or stinky (like after a walk in the summer) we stay far, far away from her.

Thunder 12-27-2007 06:06 PM

My animals don't smell good, but they don't stink either. They just smell like animal. Well, except for the occasion that one of the dogs will find a dead fish to roll on or something. I hate it when they do that. ;.;

wizardharri 12-27-2007 06:14 PM

My dogs smell like dirt...if that makes sense.

it's kind of a rusty smell

My Cup Of Chai 12-27-2007 06:39 PM

My kitten doesn't smell very good. D; He seems to have a major flatulence problem any time he eats something other than his dry cat food. -__-;; He is a stinky cat.

A i 12-27-2007 07:18 PM

i have a nice,clean,good looking,sweet,charming,soft,cuddly,cuuute cat ! hehe ;P
well, its actually because we bath him nee , ;P
but my cat is good in taking care of himself..
he wont let himself wet in 'dirty stuff'..u know..unlike my hamster..they like to roll on dirty water..eww..
well yea...i will sometimes take my cat and put him on my shoulder since he's sooo soft and clean ;P
( i just did ) ..and he's not heavy since he's still a kitten nee ^^

Fullmetal Phantom 12-27-2007 07:53 PM

My cats usually smell...well, like cats. Unles they've been sleeping in the laundry basket or something. XD;

But my DOG...usually smells horrible. She has a constant case of bad gas, and has some sort of obsession with fecal matter. >.<; She just had a bath yesterday, so it's not as bad as usual, but...good lord. She can clear out a small auditorium.

Luckily, I'm fairly tolerant of unpleasant smells. XD;

My cat doesn't smell like anything at all. :0 Niether good nor bad.
The only time he smells is after he goes to the bathroom. xD
My bf's cat is stinky though. I don't know why. o.o;

Caitlyn 12-27-2007 08:44 PM

I really like the smell of a CLEAN cat. Its all fuzz and nice :D

iC[a]ndy 12-27-2007 11:27 PM

I use to have a hamster, and he smelt funny.
Not bad because it didn't make me back away from him or gag.
You couldn't smell it from afar, but when you got really really close, like so close, your nose is almost touching him..

Rain 12-27-2007 11:49 PM

xD I'm allergic to cats, so I can't actually sniff them.
[that sentence was kind of weird 0-0]
However, my dog smells really good after he gets groomed or gets a bath, and I love petting him while his fur is so soft and good smelling~

Himani 12-27-2007 11:51 PM

Maybe your cat rubs against the laundry detergent?
My dogs like to do that...

Sherbet 12-28-2007 12:06 AM

My cat smells so good! When he came in, he smelled like sunlight and cement. He usually smells like clean laundry though. I love him! <3

It sounds like your cat has been getting into the laundry!
