Road Trips!

This topic with 50% less talk of urinating.

So folks, this friend and I are taking a road trip in a couple of weeks, possibly with a third person, and I need new ideas of how to keep occupied on the road.

"Criah," you may be saying, "You're in the car. With girlfriends. Have a conversation about boys and stuff. Duh."

But it's not that easy! I mean, sure, the friend and I travel all the time together. We're partners in crime, we're Thelma and Louise without the whole messy business with that cliff...but the third person is my sister, and my experiences road tripping with her are more like a border war than a giggly masterpiece of fun. We enjoy one another's company as adults...kind of...but five hours on the road together?

That's gonna take some doing! So, my challenge to discuss is this: given that one of the three of us will be driving (probably me; my friend's night vision ain't the best and she doesn't know my sister well enough to let her drive), what sort of road games can be safely played? In the dark? With three young women in the car?

At high rates of speed?

And how do road trips with your siblings go? I love my sister and invited her to come along, but I keep thinking of how much we fought in the car when we were kids! Have you ever broken out into a back seat fistfight? Claw war? Whinyface?

Did your dad ever pull out the dad arm on you and smack you both while keeping one hand on the wheel?

Hmm safe game for a 5 hour trip...
*trying to think back on al the road trips*
the only thing i canthink of all involves a cb *step dads a trucker.. lols*
Mayb you can buy some books of fun word puzzles and the ones where you place noun vers and stuff then read what the lil story makes...
but that amay only keep you busy for 2 hours tops!

and for road trips...
well.. only when he trip lasted more the 10 hours id my sister and myself really started to fight with each other...><
And those where only pushing wars.. lols

have fun on ur trip thow!

But when I was younger, my sister April (whom is 23 now)and I (I'm 18) never got along in the car. We'd be sitting in the back seat and something would happen where we'd start having arm wars. Nudge each other I mean. And of course, the other person always had to be the last person to nudge for them to win. We only did this when we were mad at each other and couldn't verbally tell each other what we thought about the next person. Because if we did, we'd get slapped where we need to be.

Even now, when are still bad at arguing in the vehicle. She's a slow arse driver sometimes, often times she goes fast. So I like to point that out. Other times she's just annoying for no reason when in the car. Don't do this, don't do that. You don't know how to drive. Yeah...

When I'm in my own car and she's traveling with me while I'm driving, it's always the same when I'm in hers. "Shut up, don't talk, let me drive."
Otherwise, we're in for a headache. C;

The best advice I can give you is just to make a lot of stops on your road trip. Get some fresh air and whatnot. People usually become irritated being in a vehicle for so long. At least I do.

Well your all grown up now so I am sure that the whole clawing and fist fights won't happen. So if you want to keep entertained why don't you give your sister the back seat (just in case) and have a normal girl talk or if you are a really experienced and good night driver you could bring along a lap top so your sister can watch her favorite movie when she starts to get bored. Other things to do are to put on your favorite music and have a karaoke party that doesn't draw to much tension. Or reminisce about other road trips that you have all shared.

My family and I recently when traveling however we always used to travel and so we don't actually converse much though we do occasionally and when we do it doesn't really involve fighting, in fact we never really fight on trips it is just to exhausting and it's difficult to. You can't run away and when your not sitting beside them you can get in trouble with your arms.

Have fun!
Games...?
You could do word games. Like, one person says an animal, and the other person has to come up with an animal that starts with the end letter of that animal.
ie- The first person says dog, the second person says giraffe, and the third person says elephant, etc
And then change the subject when you get bored...
Or if you can't find something to talk about, pick a random object you pass by and tell a story about it- stories from the past can take up a lot of time [XD]

These may sound kind of kiddy, but these are stuff I remember playing in the car.

On fighting...I always sat in the backseat and my brother in the middle seat, so we never really fought. My older sister was too mature to fight by then  (she sat by my brother)
We sang songs though [=)] You don't have to talk the whole road trip through- you can listen to music or sleep or something.

Heh...don't think I gave you much help [>.>] But have a nice road trip anyways!

Hmm, well you could always play the I spy game :P
Or~ play would you rather?
An example would be like... would you rather have a cellphone or your computer? (lame i know)
and then the person has to explain why. I always like the goofy ones, like "would you rather wake up hammered and hung over next to an ape or a seal?"
hahaha
Umm, that's all I can think of >.> I've only taken 2 road trips and visited 21 states. From CA to NY in 3 days, and from CA to OK (oklahoma? >.>) in 2. Most of the states were visited along the way to NY. It was my mom and I and we took a lot of detours to visit family and see sights :P

@ disturbed66: I wish we could do mad libs, but we're leaving after my friend and I get off of work and it'll be getting dark quickly. It's a great idea, though!

@ Jennifer: Haha, yeah, that's what my sister and I are like. I'm 27, she's 23. I'm hoping it won't be as bad with a third person in the car...especially since it's that third person's car. Though, many stops? I'm thinkin' we may be racing down there to get to the motel as fast as we can. At least a motel room is big enough for folks to stretch out.

@ Aeisha: Just because we're adults doesn't mean we're not sisters anymore. ;) Just kidding! She's already getting the back seat, but bringing along the laptop is a really good idea.

@ yorikobii: You're talking to someone who got Hello Kitty stuff from her boss for her birthday. Kid stuff isn't exactly unknown to me. :D Though people getting too mature for fights? Geez, what is this world coming to. My parents still brace for WWIII when we all have the big happy family road trip to visit relatives every Thanksgiving.

I've been on a few road trips to anime cons. :'D In fact,
tomorrow I'll be in a car for almost four hours. But we
never play road games; the people I travel with are so ridiculously funny
that we don't need games. We usually just listen to music
and then some of them will play their DS's.

But I hope you have fun on your trip. :] I'm sure it'll be fun
and you'll think of stupid things to laugh at.

Aeisha 01-04-2008 08:31 AM

Criah~ My brother and I still fight we just don't do it in the car plus we are starting to ignore the little jibes. The laptop is what we had on our recent trip plus portable d.v.d players are great as well. They are smaller and more convenient

My sister and I are two years apart, I'm younger, we fought all the time when we where younger.

We get along great now, when she went to a differnt school than me for college we became the best of friends and we used to drive places and talk about our lives ect.

we used to sing the 99 bottles of beer on the wall song together or sing along to songs we listened to as a kid . . . it was actualy realy fun!

Now she is maried and lives in another state but we still get along and we just went on a road trip together and we spend the whole time making fun of my little sister XP (she's 9 years old)

I always play the license plate game where you state with the letter “a” and find that on a license plate then go on to “b”, etc. I also like I spy a lot too. My siblings and I used to fight a lot when we went on road trips, sadly, not much has changed since we all can’t really sit in a room for a few minutes without fighting most of the time. I wish we did all get along though since a family road trip would be fun.

Oh my goodness I love road trips! they are the greatest fun evuh *nods* you know what can be fun on a road trip? board games... I know that they really arn't meant for the car but they are still heaps of fun trying to play and balance at the same time. Oh and bring a joke book, the naughtier the better I always say. And heaps and heaps of lollies to make yourself sick on. And lots and lots of soda too so you can wash all of it down well and have heaps of energy.

A rule for the roadtrip is that you have to have lots of daggy music and my fav game is car kareoke. Similar to normal kareoke but what me and my friends do is play a song from a cd and stop it where you want the person to sing the rest of the line. Thats how it is car kareoke, its pretty fun. And the person who gets the most word right out of the line they were meant to sing wins.

I hate going on road trips with my family, well...not really, but they can get really annoying some times. I remember I was on a nine hour road trip once with my family, and we were like an hour away from home when we blew our back two tires.

The longest road trip I've ever been on was like for a day and half of non-stop driving. We were driving to P.E.I.

I love going on road trips with my friends though, once we planned a trip, and while we were driving we came up with this whole idea that muderer was following us this whole time (this was because there was a single car following us for seven straight hours), and stuff like that, and one girl got so freaked out by it that when our trip finally ended she wouldn't get out of the car for the bathroom break.
