The Chinese New Year is coming. Do you know what animal represents what year you were born in?

Mine is the year of the rooster, my daughter is the year of the ram. My grandchild that will be born in March will be born in the year of the Rat! hahahahah

Does anyone do anything special for the Chinese New Year? Last year my sister, her husband, kids, and my daughter and I went up to China Town in LA and watched the parade and festivities. She wants to go again this year but I would like to find something a little closer in Orange County.

Do you have any family traditions?

Back in fourth grade, some of my classmates would go, "OHMYGODWE'RETHESAMMEANIMAL!!!!!"

And I'd go..."...hurray. -eyeroll-"

Because it's really not that surprising. xD; I mean, we're in the same grade, so we'd be probably be about the same age, you know?

And then they'd go, "Oh my gawd, WHAT is your problem?"

xD;;; I mean, it's really...really not that big of a deal, since we're in the same grade, so we'd be like the same age, so we'd probably be the same animal.

I am year of the monkey. Metal monkey, if we're getting into specifics. It actually fits me a little better than my sign on the Western zodiac.

I personally think they're both bunk, just sayin'.

It's kinda cool, though, because I love monkey stuff. My bathroom has a huge all-encompassing monkey theme. Well, as huge as you can get in a bathroom as eeny teeny as mine. :D

Yup, I know. :3 I know which elements and which animals my month and day is too.

Just a side comment, just because it says 2007 is the Year of the Pig, for example, doesn't mean you're a Pig. If it has not reached the Chinese New Year, you're still in the Year of the Dog. Right now it's still the Year of the Pig...and it won't switch to the Year of the Rat till February 18th.
A lot of my friends think they're tigers, rabbits or snakes just to name a few, but yeah...no. :3

When I celebrate with my Chinese family back in Hawaii, we'll have a big dinner party and the kids will go into the yard and pop firecrackers. Since I'm still one of the "kids" and not the parents or grandparents, I get to join them. xD

With my Korean side, we eat traditional New Years food. No fireworks since where we live is too dry, and I think they're still banned. *not sure*

I'm the year of the Sheep. :]
My Japanese teacher taught the cute story of how the Zodiac animals were ordered. It was fascinating how they were able to make up such a cute folk tale. <3

Mine is the horse. :)
It's funny because my nickname is Nea Nea.
And no it isn't because I like horses (I don't really.) it's because it's from my name. :o
Dannea.

But I don't celebrate it at all.
It would be neat to see a festival somewhere in China though. :o

I was born in the year of the monkey, 1992. I don't celebrate Chinese New Year, but I have a couple friends who do. It seems really fun!

I'm a Sheep. I haven't really looked at anything regarding Chinese Horoscopes in quite a while (probably because I got interested in Western Astrology and Numerology instead), so I don't remember what exactly it means.

I have an ex who seemed to know a lot about Chinese Astrology (he was a dragon) and when he was talking about his family he would always identify them by Chinese Year ("the dog's doing this", etc).

However, the person who is closer to me than anyone else in my life is an Ox, and they supposedly don't get along well with Sheep. So I don't trust it too much!

Uh, I am the Snake.
Dad is the Rat.
Sister the Sheep.
Mother the Tiger.

We don't really celebrate the Chinese
New Year. We do the Korean New Year.
Same day I believe.

I was born in the year of the horse, as was my unckle. My grandmother was born in th year of the rooster, my mother and father are both rats, one of my sisters were born in the year of the tiger, and the other one was born in the year of the rat. And lastly, my little brother was born in the year of the dog -- which is funny, because I've tought him how to act like a dog. He barks, and pants. Pretty cute, for a 14 month old!

Year of the Tiger. :] I love the Tiger. <33

My family usually exchanges red envelope packets of money because we're chinese. And in china town + the chinese cultural plaza here there is usually a block party with singing, dancing, sword fighting, kung fu, lion dancing shows etc etc.

Well I think I'm a rabbit, but I'm kind of confused about it since you said that it doesn't necessarily mean that you are a sign if you're born in the year of it.
