I loathe any flavored cough syrup- and I ALSO drink a lot of water afterwards to get rid of the aftertaste. :(. I've found that holding my nose while taking it helps a little, though. I figured that, if I can't smell or taste when I have a cold, that holding my nose while taking it would cancel the taste, like a cold does. It only helps a bit, though- I can still taste it, but it's not as gross as it would be. Compared to regular cough medicine, Dimetapp was wonderful.(Actually, I remember kind of liking the taste of it.. ^^;. Well, it was tolerable, anyway)
What I find even worse than cough syrup are cough drops with menthol in them. >_<. To me, they're like taking cough medicine, but a version of it that takes half an hour to get rid of. :(
I wish all cough syrup(and drops) could taste like Luden's, Fruit Breeze, or these tasty Crush ones that Walgreens sells. :). But then I'd eat it like candy, like I occasionally do with those(I have to restrain myself- none of them are actually harmful to eat, as they only contain Pectin, which is sugar, but they still are cough drops, not candy.)
And that WOULDN'T be good, as cough syrup and menthol cough drops contain more than just pectin. :(
