Gee Blockbuster, thanks!

So I went to blockbuster today to rent a movie (woow) and I found a really good anime (I don't normally rent anime, way to short) and this Movie was Record of Lodoss War. Two dics complete set and was like Yaaay! ~<3

So I go to rent it happily and the lady was ringing it up and she was like..."Hmmm...well..hey if you pay $9.99 for this you can buy it. Would you like to?"

O.O<3 "Yes please..."

Yay! Blockbuster isn't Nazi CORP that wants my money and doesn't call me anyways after they changed the renting rules! xDD

So happy to say I own a Two Disc Anime set and a wick movie.

Have you ever had anything like this happen to you before?
(If this belongs somewhere else could a Mod Move it please?:)

Rananteriel 01-18-2008 09:19 PM

Never happened to me, the opposite to be exact ... the nearest Blockbuster to me has just closed so now I have to walk miles to rent movies :x

St Branny 01-18-2008 09:23 PM

It closed??

Most have been a bad area. ._.

Blockbuster closed all the Small VID stores we had in my town. </3

OBJECTION 01-18-2008 09:28 PM

I can't say something like that happened to me, especially since they took out the two Blockbusters that were in my town. -_-

St Branny 01-18-2008 09:29 PM

WoW..

I haven't heard of them closing. >.>

Wendy Darling 01-18-2008 10:00 PM

Well, I saw this and thought it was total sarcasm. I'm glad you got it for really cheap. Sometimes the less popular movies get sold really quickly and they only keep one or two copies on the shelves -- if it's REALLY unpopular, they'll sell their excess ones from the new release for mad cheap. You got lucky to pay just ten bucks for one -- most I've paid for an old Blockbuster rental is maybe. . . 20 bucks, I think. @[email protected];

St Branny 01-18-2008 10:09 PM

I dunno cus it was the only one they had and I was so happy/amazed. xD
I feel bad for those that like it since it gets rented alot. o.o weird...

OBJECTION 01-18-2008 10:43 PM

Yeah both of them closed. I had one literally three minutes by foot from my house and now it's gone. I don't know if it's because a lot of people in my town use Hollywood Video or if it's because people use Netflix, but they're gone. Those Blockbusters have been there since I moved to this town, over ten years ago.

St Branny 01-18-2008 10:47 PM

Really weird! O.O

I know Netflix is big, but it's not that kewl. o.o

It's making alot of people lose the their job. ._.

We don't have a Hollywood video here...I don't think anywhere around here.

MasterChiefrei 01-18-2008 10:53 PM

Well...The only thing I can think of that qualifies as Block Buster's generosity is that there was a game called Ephermeral Fantasia that I really liked and wanted to buy. The thing is the only place I saw it was at my Block Buster and it was barely heard of online. At one point I asked to buy it since I was sure I was the only one still renting the game and they said they weren't allowed to do that. Finally they put the game up for sale for $9.99 and I was able to buy it.
Other than that Block Buster is usually full of assholes.

I've only rented one anime movie from Blockbuster before. But they do have really cheap games sometimes.

Yeah, that's really true. The thing is -- don't get one that looks like it's been rented a lot, if that's possible. Chances are it's been through so many houses, had stuff spilled all over the cover, had the disc itself scratched, etc., etc. Doesn't sound like a good buy to me, even if it is ten bucks.

I totally forgot about Blockbuster for movies -- I've been snooping on eBay for most stuff as of late. I might need to pay the video rental store a visit. >w<

St Branny 01-18-2008 11:21 PM

No the disc's are nearly spotless.
(Hard core about stuff like that)
That's why it's so weird..

OH yeah.
I remember when they sold all of the VHS's...Branny has a fun time then too. xD

I was at blockbuster to buy a DVD of Halloween for a friend, and they had a nice, brand new copy for like, 15$.
Which totally shocked me.

And it's nice, I have a blockbuster down the street from me.

Fabby 01-18-2008 11:29 PM

@Objection-- It's the exact opposite in my city. We still have a bunch of Blockbusters, but every Hollywood Video I knew of has closed down. I guess Netflix really is that popular.
And then there's the uprising of uploading videos onto YouTube... XD

The one I used to go to shut down. The economy’s really bad here so just about everything’s shutting down. I’m not that big of a movie person anyway though. I tend to fall asleep in the middle of most movies.

St Branny 01-19-2008 03:42 AM

Not a movie person...?!

WEIRD!!

Sorry. .__.

Faye 01-19-2008 04:13 AM

I rent movies, to copy them. >.>;

Sorry, cheap ass. Uh, I only want to buy movies if it's epic epic epic.

I love the movies though. Yep.

St Branny 01-19-2008 06:29 AM

Lodoss wars is total Epicness. xD

The art is very nice and the story..mmmm..

I love Sword/Magic RPG like based stories.

Elfs, dark Knights, Powerful god dragons...the whole lot. xD

naruu 01-19-2008 06:47 AM

That's awesome. xD
The only Anime I've actually rented would be Haibane Renmei from block buster. Anything else they have doesn't really interest me.

x-cutie-x-pie-x 01-19-2008 07:30 AM

I have a blockbusters near me, I just don't rent movies. x]

Kukon 01-19-2008 08:56 AM

Don't go to Blockbuster anymore and I don't like anime, but yeah. Hollywood does that as well.

Javert 01-19-2008 01:25 PM

I've found one cheap game from them in the past- they had a copy of Breath of Fire 3 for 10 dollars, if I remember right. At the time, the game was rare, so it was an even better deal. And it has hardly any scratches on it(if any), and works wonderfully. :). As for movies, I've rented one or two from them- but only when my mom had free rental coupons. They normally charge too much for a rental, and they don't give me enough time to watch the DVD I rented- I normally don't get a chance to watch a DVD for at least 4 days after I rent/buy it due to school, or other things. Most of the DVDs I'd rent would be considered new releases, and I'd only have a week to watch them. :(. Even when I had the coupons, I hardly rented anything- their anime selection was awful, and the only movie they had that interested me was checked out.(And it was also anime. XD.

Tro 01-19-2008 01:28 PM

I bought a movie from Blockbuster and they accidently added it as a rental charge so now they're trying to take me to court because of their mistake. Little did they know, I bought six other movies at the same time that I had previously rented and had to pay for due to being late. With their new policy, if you're late on getting the movies in by a month (yeah, I forgot about them) then you have to pay to buy them. So, I did. I even payed for the one that they state I need to buy. If they take me to court I'm simply going to have them pull up their records and see what had happened. I'll then likely turn around and file against them too.

I don't like Blockbuster any more.

Reiui 01-19-2008 01:56 PM

Um, I don't really go to Blockbuster. I just watch anime and stuff on Veoh or YouTube or something...
