Pets- Hamsters and Fish
Okay I'm not normally a person who rants on and on about pets and stuff but because of what happened today it just happened to be on my mind. Today my fiance' and I went to the pet store to look around and we got in a little play arguement about if we were going to get fish or hamsters. (so random right?) See we just got a glass tank and whether he likes it or not I'm putting something in it! I wanted fish because I think its something really nice to look at and soothing, he wants hamsters because he likes pets he can hold. And finally the reason why I didnt want the rodents... when I was younger I had four rats. A white one, a black one, and two black and white ones. The black and white ones and the black one were always really cute and sweet while the white one glared at me. One day when I opened the cage the white one attacked my hand, the other three followed suit and attacked. ANYWAYS things to discuss Pets in general, do you have any, do you even like them? Fur or scales, whatever kind of thing interests you. Any funny/interesting pet stories you want to share as well, like my incident of terror? (okay it wasnt that bad) |

I have a pet hamster ^^ she's the cutest and most nicest hamster in the world! she never bites us, she's really social, comes and sleeps in my hand and stuff like that .. :D she's never pissed even though someone would try to make her pissed xP she's old though, I don't think she has much time left.. :( |
I've had cats all my life. I always wanted a hamster/fish/frog/lizard/puppy. Not that I don't like cats, but after 18 years...you know?
When I finally move out and get my own apartment, I'm totally getting a syrian hamster. They are sooo cute! Too bad they don't live that long. ): |
soup, mine is syrian hamster ^o^ <3 and yeah it's unfortunate that they have such short lives :( my Wilma is already over 2 years old..

well I have had many pets during my 14 years of life :] I had dogs but they all died so early D: I had kitties but they ran away T^T I had hamsters and gerbil but due to my lack of carelessness they died D: I feel really sorry for them, My most recent pet died as well D: it had cancer or something but it died anyway ,so I never had a pet again. But in the future I would like a cat cause you can hug it >w< and they are cute. about you and your fiance's arguement : as long as you can take care of them then I think a fish would be better because although it smells a little it does not smell as much as the hamster I dont think. sure you can hug the hamsters but it might bite your clothes and might go to toilet on your..err clothes or hands so yea if it were me I would choose fish xD |
@ Sagitar- I used to have a hamster too, she sounded a lot like yours, really sweet and we had her for a long time. Our cat used to taunt her by sitting on top of her cage with a stuffed mouse. My mom said she had an expression of 'your next' but she was too much of a baby, ran away as soon as I took the hamster out.
How sweet she was, thats the only reason why I considered it. @ soup- I had only cats and dogs most my life too. Like you said, nothing wrong with them, you just want something new! @ NuRii - Aww you had some bad luck. Well he wound up winning, he got me to hold one... and I'm sucker for a cute furry face. but I still have a dog im my home country tho its getting old and I might not be able to see it die cause I am hundreds of miles away from it D: xD I thought you might have got sucked in by the furry cute faces ,they are sooo adorable big eyes furry bodies >< just thinking about it makes me want to get one again xD My cousin loves fishes he has five tanks of them , diferent kinds of small fishes , o: its very very beautiful |

Mine isnt as far aways as yours, but my mom made me leave one of my cats behind when I moved out. I feel sad too she's an old cat and was with me as far back as I can remember @[email protected] Oo your cousins tank sounds pretty. My mother had a small tank like that, lots of little bright colored fish, which is why I wanted one myself... I'd drive her crazy just staring at it for hours. Oh well, I'll get a small one later on down the road, or maybe transfer the hamsters into a smaller tank and start one. Not anytime soon but we'll just see what happens! |
I lost two cats last summer within a month of each other. One I had since I was two years old, she was the same age as me, so we both made it to 18. (: And the other was over 20, he was really my aunt's cat (my mom and I live with her), but I've known him my whole life.
It was really sad. ): My last cat is somewhere from 8-12, have no idea. But she's still a kitten at heart. XD And judging from how long the other ones lived, she's still got a full life ahead of her. Actually, I've known four cats in my life, but I've never had a kitten. |

since you say your cat is really old so it might have died now so I hop your cat died in peace T^T yea its really very very pretty >.> at least it was the last time I saw it xD he owned 5 big tanks just a little smaller tan 1 meters and length for each I think. lol I think you would drive me crazy if you were to stare at it for a whole day xDDD yea I was wondering why you cant have both fish and hamsters xD is it taking to much room or something? |
I have a dog and a cat.
The dog I've had since first grade. I kid you not, he is ancient. The cat I got around 2-3 years later from the shelter. The dog used to be so small that he'd trip over the frisbee when we'd throw it for him. Now he's trying to escape underneath the neighbors' fences. I had to give a wild chase just to catch him one time, that demon @[email protected] As for the cat, he's a little more shy, and was really small and cute when we adopted him, but he's kind of a jerk now. Like, I'm petting him and he suddenly attacks my hand. He's de-clawed but he's still got his teeth. Yikes. He's also really fast. If he were a human he would be so stuck up. Hilarious xD We used to breed hamsters. Regular ones at first, but then we bred dwarve hamsters and I got to keep one <3 The only downside was all the noise it made at night. There was a cage full of 'em in the other room and they used to have wrestling tournaments at night. The pets at my house seem to favor wrestling, even though they don't seem to aware of it. Like, my sister will come in to this room because she heard squeaking and one hamster will be on top of another, slapping the crap out of it. Haha. Well, the dog and cat used to have fighting tournaments in any room that was big enough, and it was hilarious. Like, you'll come in and get a faceful of cat. Also, I used to have a cute hamster named Butterscotch but he accidently suffocated himself T_T Speaking of my cat, he's been around the dog so long that he actually acts like the dog. He scratches for food, scratches to go out, and once he even growled at me. Not hissed, growled. o.o;;; But pets are sooo cute. Like hamsters, they're all small and cute and you want to hold them ^o^ Never a dull moment, eh? ^o^ |
@ NuRii, one had lung cancer, one developed a tumor in his mouth, they were both euthanized at the vet. I stayed with my cat until she took her last breath. ): She was a really adorable cat, she had huge bug eyes, like a kitten, haha.

@soup- Wow! They really did live a long time, thats amazing! So were you really close to the cats? I mean I kinda figured one you would be since you said you grew up with it. But some people just dont wind up getting attached to pets. Cats are sweet animals really, when their not being demanding of course XD. Sorry that those two passed away though. It's always sad when a pet passes away ):
Or maybe I'm just a big baby... probably that last one. I cried for three days when my turtle died after having him for about five days... and I was 16 too. My fiance' freaked out and spent the three days trying as hard as possible to calm me down. Poor guy XP @ NuRii- wow thats a lot of fishys!! And yea basically the only reason we dont get both is because we dont have a second tank yet! |
Oh, believe me, I was attached even to the one who belonged to my aunt. Even now, if I think about it, I can still cry.

D; sad to hear that, those illness sounds so horrible it remins me when the dong i really really love had to get sent away because he is too old ,13 years old D; I was crying for days i think you just make me want a kitten all the more xDDD But I am not mature enough to get one yet I think I will get one when I am old enough to take care of myself and can afford to take care of a cat ^^ @sterling yea I know he is obesess xD oh I see o: then I hope you get a tank soon ^^ and you guys are both happy xD I think I will look for some picuters of my cousins tank of fish |
@ soup - Aw I'm sorry if I got you sad again. Lung cancer on one you said? Thats what my dog died of too, I had her since I was real little. She died around two years ago.
@NuRii - Yea I already told him I wanted another tank. He agreed so in a little while, yay! More things for me to take care of. I have a garden, dog, cat, and now hamsters and fish. I like to keep myself busy as you can tell. |

I have so many good memories though, I'm okay.
The cat we have now though is really bored without her playmates, she cries a lot cuz she's lonely, but my aunt, who owns the house, doesn't want any more pets. D: It's so frustrating, because the cat, Loafy (yeah, odd name), won't shut up unless you give her 2354273502 tons of attention, and my god, I don't have the time or energy for that. Loafy is a bit dog like, she'll come running to a whistle, even from the tv, and she catches balls with her paws. |

well all the people around me a all "neds" non educational delinqint-- or however you spell it so I dont really want to get mixed up with them so the only thing I can really do is stay home and go on the computer. I am not a very rich person so I dont have much money to get a train ticket everyday to go out to the city and have fun xD @soup aww poor you xD but I have to say I would like a cat like that it be sooooo cute >< when I had my kitten I use to always wear dress cause when i sit down it likes to cllimb up and sleep on my thighs which is sooo cute >w< but it ran away soon when I forgot to put it in a cage D: when I go out |

I use to live in villages near mountains areas so and my place is big and when you go out you get lost if you dont know you way we dont want it in the house while we are not watching because it could go poo poo D; we need to put it in a cage because I also owned a dog so we are scared that it might just get eaten or scared away . but we forgot that time so yea D: |
