I don't have a problem with it, but it does seem a bit odd...I mean, why have a picture of a different avatar than you already have on this site?
Okay...that sentence made no sense. I wouldn't put my Gaia avi in my sig here though. Just a link, maybe so that people can meet other Gaians here. ^^ |
Gaia is so huge and people change their avys outfits all the time, I would much more recognize someone by their username or sig art then a pic of their avy. I think it's kind of silly.

Well, some people like their Gaian avis. I mean, if they made a new outfit and think it looks really really pretty because it matches really well, or if you got a new item that you've been questing for and wanted to show it off. I've never done it, but I don't see anything wrong with it. |
I don't post my avatars from other sites in my sig... I don't even put dream avatars in my sig. It doesn't irk me to see other people do it... I don't really care what others put in their signatures because I ignore them most of the time -shrugs-

But yeah, it seems more or less like most people who do it want to show off, or just assume someone might recognize them or something. But that's fine. Eddafred has been my online name for years, and I've yet to find anyone else use it/steal it. My username on Gaia is, obviously Eddafred. I've got a fair deal of items, as I've been a member for quite some time. And if anyone wants to go bug me there, be my guest :3 Just don't beg me for stuff, because that annoys me to no end D: |
I've seen a Roli/Zantarni avi in someone's sig as well a long time ago. I would never show off my Gaia avi in my sig. If someone asks me if I have an account on Gaia, I'll tell them. I guess I can understand why someone would want to do it though. If they're super famous on Gaia and want people to recognize them or if they just want to look at their Gaia avi all day even when they're not on Gaia... |
I think people want to carry over their things (clothes) from Gaia to Menewsha to gain respect. A lot of people have Menewshan avatars but it is not their main. Most poeple treat Gaia as their main website. It's larger, and the threads move faster. And since a lot of Menewshans are from Gaia, they find it necessary to show how rich they are in Gaia or maybe just show who they were. So they can get friends or status respect. There's no denying that what you wear in Gaia counts a lot to the new users. The richer you are, the more respected you are. And if you're new and lost and nakie in Menewsha, there's nothing better than showing your ultra rich Gaian avatar to get people to like you. I mean people are attracted to rich people right? So most likely the people who will befriend them because of their avatars would have some sort of gain when they reach Gaia. But another less pessimistic point of view might be because Gaia had been such a huge place. People are hardly talking to each other and old users have their own world. New users find it hard to fit in because when you talk to the newbies, you get nothing but crap. When you talk to the old people, you get ignored. I should talk for I have enjoyed Gaia with three avatars. When I was old and rich, I was respected. When I'm new. I was ignored. As much as people would want to argue that they don't evaluate people that way, it is something that's really happening. As much as one can say that they don't befriend you just because you're rich, you may wonder why new, naked people don't get treated as importantly as new users outside the newbie forum. I'm talking about Gaia. Not Mene. Mene is so different because it welcomes everyone and the users are all open for conversation. Excuse my ranting. >) |

I always wondered why they did it too actually.
I mean it looks really tacky to begin with and it's rare if someone recognizes you other than yours friends. Well imo anyways. The only people I talk to on a regular basis on Mene I also know on Gaia so I don't see the point of showing them my avatar. XDD As for the comments on "they want to show how rich they are because it boosts up their rep on Mene" or something on those lines. I have a "rich" avatar so I must ask, does it work? XDDDD! Jokes. Seriously, when I started out here I walked about naked, I never thought "oh hey lets put my gaian avatar in my sig to get respect." Respect is what you make it. Menewshans are generally really nice, so you shouldn't need to have that type of mentality. I never had a probably while I was naked and I don't have any problems now. If I did, I would have just left, not brought over my other avatar. That just doesn't make sense :S. |

I think the reason why some people show their Gaia avvies in their sigs... is because of the fact that some people are very proud of their Gaia account. I am at least, but I haven't put my avvie on my sig because of the fact that it changes all the time and I will agree it's odd to see those Chibi avvies among these doll like ones. |
I think why people do this is either 1) they're bragging about their Gaia wealth and/or 2) they're hoping that people will recognize them. The first is pretty much a bad idea since many, many on Menewsha can't stand Gaia. The second, while it might be a good idea with a smaller site (than Gaia that is), it's not such a great idea when you consider how huge a site Gaia is and how many avatars look so similar. A Gaia avatar is not likely to actually be recognizable from all the others, so the people who just put "my gaia username is..." are probably better accomplishing this.
Either way, I mostly ignore signatures unless they have really pretty artwork (and even that's just if I have the gold to buy some for myself lol.) |

Gaian avatars on Menewsha irks me, as well. I frequent a site called eC, which is not even an avatar site, yet people have their Gaian avvies in their signatures. I tend to roll my eyes and move on.
Although, without the Menewshan advertising one person had in their signature, I would never have found Menewsha. ;o; |
I don't know - I don't. Gaia is gaia and Mene is mene - why mix the two? *shrugs* Maybe they just want to show they are part of gaia and people can find them on gaia if they want?

avatars posted on people's gaian profiles. But honestly, I have to agree with you. xD Its kind stupid. But they're are a ton of Gaia imports on Mene, so its most likely it was going to happen anyways. x3 |

I've mainly heard the "zomg, I'm rich on Gaia but it's hard to earn money here" excuse from people when they first join sites but have Gaia avatars in their sigs. Then, I think they just end up forgetting it's there after a while.
I've never really liked the idea of having avatars in sigs. I prefer to stick that kind of thing on blogs, or something of the sort. |
I have seen people do this with avatars from other sites as well becides Gaia... so it's not jsut that. they could be proud of how their avi looks, or they may just want to let people know who they are on the other site as well.
I know i have my gaia avi posted in my temp journal... and i have my mene avi on my gaia profile... and i have both on my imvu profile... it's just showing another side of your self to the people arround you. |
The wealthier you are on one website, the more e-props you get on another? o wo;; I don't know. I don't like seeing Gaia avatars in Menewshan signatures either. It's like...having a Neopet in your Gaia signature. o wo;;; And can you imagine how many Gaians would freak out if you had a Menewshan avatar in your Gaia signature? Only about a whole lot, after they complained that every single avatar creator site is just copying Gaia. :/

Probably because they want to show off their Gaia avatars. It's hard to say what some people's motives are. Personally I don't see the point behind advertising another website on one that is obviously similar, but some people do it anyway. Whatever, I suppose it can't be helped.
