Alcohol and Hockey Brawls
I went to a hockey game last night where our 'AAA' team was playing off to go to prvincials and had to win by at least two points to advance. Well the other team scored on us in the first period with 5 mins left and then a shock washed over most of the crowd and their alcohol settled in.
I switched seats at 2nd period and across from me, on the other side of the rink, were a bunch of fans from the other team with their batons that they smacked together, posters, a bell and those long horns you blow into. Did I mention they were surrounded by a drunken mass of our team's hockey fans from my high school and the other high school? Our town decided since we were now losing by one that they wanted to pick on the other teams fans. They grabbed the horns and threw them, ripped up the posters as they grabbed them out of the other teams hands and they popped their batons. Now I thought this was really disgusting because if that had happened to them they would whine to their mommies about it. The other tema's fans were siting there trying to ignore them when one of my old friends grabs one of the gyus shooping bags and rips it open. Another one grabbed the paint that was inside of it thinkign he was going to spray everyone when the other team decided they had enough and one of them grabbed the paint bottle too and squeezed, sending paint all over our team's clothes. That's when it all broke loose because the guy who got paint all over him screamed "You're dead!" at this guy who was deffending himself. Then the big guy from the their group gets up and grabs him by the collar and fists start to fly. He had a drum with him and after the fight had eneded and their coach had led their fans somewhere safe, our fan's smashed the drum to pieces. This is when the police showed up and started arresting poeple and some drunken girls were cheering the guy's being arrested on so they fought back a little. To me, this is disgusting and proves that we weren't supporting our town's team, but that some only wanted a little more "pazzaz" in their day. What do you think? Any stories about crazed fans? |
Man, that's crazy. I don't have any stories like that. The worst that's ever happened when I've gone to games is opposing fans talking trash.
|
me neither.
it scares me sometimes to hear about stuff like this |
Wow that's really mean. I would never do that to another team's fans, especially as they were just cheering for their team, not insulting the others or anything.
I think hockey is too rough, on the ice AND in the stands. It's not the end of the world if your team loses... |
I've heard more and more stories about adults acting like hooligans and it makes me wonder how we can expect kids to behave properly when the adults are setting a rather shitty example.
|
I totally agree. There were three teachers sitting in front of me watching what was going on at the other side and they kept saying how embarassed they were.
There was one kid, who was the one who basically started the whole think be shouting at them, when the police came he just ran out of there. They didn't see him, but what can you do. The thing that bothered me the most was the drum thing. That kid probably spent a couple months skinning the hide, tanning it, and stretching it a billion time and then putting his decorations on it and they just trashed it because the other teram was winning. The other team did win over us 4-1 and I was kind of glad, sorry to say. |
That was a HIGH SCHOOL game?
This is obviously why they've never allowed any alcohol at school-related events in this area. How old were these kids? Were they even legal drinking age? That's just ridiculous. Hockey games are always where the worst fights break out, but they're generally on the ice. My husband plays ice hockey in a recreational league, and is always a lot of alcohol around. They've had fights over ridiculous things on the ice. I heard a story about a guy that got angry, took of his jersey, peed on it, and then left. He quit the league and got a refund, which was also ridiculous because he never PAID to begin with. He took the money and ran. |
Well, they were highschool age, but our highschools don't have teams. It was the triple "A"s that were playng and then kids from my highschool that were beating up the other team OFF the rink. I'm glad I left right away because I didn't want to see the other fights that would start after the game.
It was really embarrassing because it shows our schools true colours and how most of them act even though we're a catholic school. Yeah, they were all under age. |
