Childhood Fears
When I was young (lets say really young under 7 years old) I used to have a couple of fears, silly ones maybe some others not so silly.
for example I used to be afraid of darkness I used to believe my mom and dad would not return home because they didnt love me and speculate on how far they could go without their ids and papers/money etc... I used to fear being left alone I used to fear the monster under the bed I also had an enormous fear of spiders and another huge fear to pee involuntarily on my bed... Almost all children can be frightened by the sound of thunder or scared in a dark room. With a little patience and understanding, you can usually help your children overcome these and other common childhood fears. However, as a parent, you are keenly aware that there are real dangers that threaten your children. While you are working to help your children get rid of some kinds of fear, you are also teaching certain other kinds of fear for their own protection. Did you have any of these or any other childhood fear you can remember? |
I had many fears, but I don't quite remember all of mine from childhood.
Maybe because most of fears I had when I was little are still the same. For example the dark. xD I am still frightened by the dark. And monsters too, but as in ghosts and demons and stuff. :D; I watch too many movies. lawl. And it makes my fear of the dark even greater. I am always scared of bumping into the wall and falling down the stairs and bumping into things or finding some scary man who wants to kill everyone here at home in the dark. o.o; My imagination runs wild when it comes to the dark. ;o; |
I hated the dark in my room. You know when you stare hard enough you see the other colors? Not just black but the little shades of grey and white. Sometime I swear I saw eyes (not true tangible ones) like shadow creature eyes.
x' D But that was only when I was in my room at night and couldn't sleep, so that might be part of an explanation. True blue fears?... Getting in trouble? x' D Spiders and bugs never really scared me, because I figured I'm much bigger than them, and could easily squish them, so why be scared? |
Nice.
Now that I think of it, I was scared of the bathroom altogether... I guess it was because I felt alone? But When I flushed the toilet I would run out of the bathroom as fast as I could {{I was scared that something would happen while the toilet was flushing and my parents wouldn't hear me scream.}} I was scared of the drain in the shower because I thought I saw eyes in it. Also when I used to shower, I would shower facing the shower head [The wall] But then I got paranoid and thought that there was someone behind me so I trained myself to shower the other way around! Haha... And I still shower that way just out of habit... And of course I was afraid of the darkness... Still kind of am, because as a human, my limited abilities don't allow me to know what lurks within.

Well...
I've always had this irrational fear of needles, heights and spiders. Seriously. I've lost count of how many times I've fainted whilst having an injection or blood test. It's sad really. Not to mention embarrassing. Dx |
I used to be very afreaid of the darkness. What I imagines when I was in the darkness alone, was skeletons. It scared me as I thought of bony arms reach out from the window (as opposed to those other kinds thinking of fat, hairy arms XD)
I also used to be afraid of showering or going to the bathroom alone. But that's only cause there were mice at home, and I was scared they might come and bite me. (I was about 4-6 years old) I am afraid of heights, insects, snakes, needles. When I was very young I had to take shots...a LOT. And my mom worked near a hospital. I was always afraid to step in  Hmm...I am also quite scared about ghosts, spirits, and all. I mean, I think as "If it was a person, at least I can protect myself more. But a ghost or something, how do I stop it?" Yea, ends my ramble XD |
I was afraid of all sorts of stuff. Snakes was a big one, bugs, another big one.
I was scared of flushing the toilet too, after seeing horror movies at a young age and thinking the monsters would jump out and hurt me. Rofl. I think.. That was mostly it. Heights and strangers, too. |
hi
i'm scared of snakes and stuff like that. I cry when i hear them... :( it sucks so bad i hate it
|
I was such a baby when I was small, I was scared of the dark, and spiders. I still am scared of spiders. They have eight eyes and legs.
I have a fear of bugs, even butterflies. Dx Cockroaches especially. -dies- I'm scared of horror films, because I know when I watch them, I won't forget about them and I'll have nightmares. @[email protected] |
I used to run away from the toilet after I flushed it. I thought a monster would come out and drag me down.

im terifyed of hights ya defenitly hights. really high things scare me they really do.

When I was little I was always afraid that there was a monster in my closet...that's thanks to my dad for making me watch the movie 'House' Now that I see it when I'm older I'm not afraid of it, but when I was a kid...oh man, it was bad.
And I was also afraid of needles/shots when I was a kid...but nothing has really changed since then. The last time I had to get a shot was about 3 years ago when I was 16. (I'm 19 now, 20 in June) and I cried...it didn't even hurt but just the thought of getting that shot I started to cry before I even got it, and I was 16. I think it really is a phobia. |
I'm scared of many things even today. When I was young I was also afraid of the dark, now I'm more lenient about the whole thing.
I'm still deadly scared of fire and cockroaches. Actually for the roaches it's more of a disgust factor with them. I feel bad for discriminating against them, but just eww. : x I've had them crawl into my mouth at one point while I was trying to sleep when I was six. Not a pleasant experience. :| I've had some bad experiences with fire as well. So I have my reasons for being petrified of it. My biggest fear though, till this day, is waking up in the morning and finding someone I live with dead. I know, it sounds pretty morbid. Maybe that's why I can't sleep well at night. It's not the same when I sleep during the day, which I can't anymore even if I wanted to. *sigh* For some reason or other I feel more comfortable and safe sleeping/relaxing during the day. I guess my fear of the dark still exists after all. >.>; |
I used to have a fear of staying home alone. Every single noise I heard I would make a mad dash straight into my room until I thought the noise was gone.
I also kinda/sorta had a fear of getting lost. I almost though I was one time at Longs Drugs. Though after a minute or two, I found my mom. Lastly, I still have a slight fear of bugs. Not the little, tiny ones you can crush with your fingers, The bigger ones. Only when they are in our house and in my bedroom. If they are outside in the grass or on the sidewalk or whatever, I either crush them or just walk around them. I especially hate bees. Sometimes the fly into our apartment when we leave the door openand i get scared. I don't know why, I just hate them. I have never been stung by a bee before and I don't believe I am allergic, it's just I don't wnat to start getting stung. |
Hm... when I was little, I had a fear of being left alone. I also had a fear of those generic ugly monsters like the Boogieman and such. My biggest fear was the dark though, because I never knew what would pop out.
I still am afraid of the Dark. And bugs. Some bugs can kill you o.e << paranoid. |
Carpet Sharks!
o_o When the lights were out and I was in bed, I couldn't have any part of my body out of the bed, in case the carpet sharks got me. Because they would have done, if they had the chance. My parents thought I took my teddy bears to bed with me for company. They were there for shark distracting. If I wanted to reach out to switch on the bedside light, I'd have to throw a teddy bear on the floor first. That way the sharks would be busy eating the teddy, which would give me time to reach out and turn the light on without getting eaten myself. Luckily they vanished when the light was on <3 I was scared of my bedroom closet for a while, but then I decided I'd sleep in there one night, with my dog for protection xD Have you ever tried getting a large dog (Pointer) to stay inside a closet? I'm surprised the dog didn't eat me, nevermind the carpet sharks trying o_o Anyhow, after I spent the night in the closet, with the dog howling, I decided it was going to be my place called "Werewolf Castle" and I stopped being scared of it o_0 |
the dark of course..
heights. clowns. an irrational fear of my fingernails coming off.. lots of anxiety in general.. I was raised catholic, heh. that nobody loved me.. stuff like that, I was a very cowardly child. hehe.. I'm proud to say that I'm not really afraid of any of these things now. ^.^ |
True, solid fears that kept me awake at night as a child:
-I was terrified of a fire breaking out while we slept. This kept me up some nights till the wee hours of dawn watching the slit under the door for any light that wasn't supposed to be there. I actually stopped sleeping on the top bunk because I was afraid smoke inhilation would kill me first. My parents had to move me in to my own room with my own bed so I would stop sleeping on the floor (my baby brother couldn't sleep on the top bunk because he kept falling out). This was an on going fear from five until I was nine. -I was afraid of a bear getting me whenever I'd go to the outside bathroms while camping. Nevermind there are no bears where we lived. Silly fears I had as a child: - Unicorns. Seriously. I'm a girl and unicorns baffled me. I thought their horns would stab you! - The dark. Funnily enough this is the first fear I got over at 6. - Platform shoes. The one time I saw my mother wear platform shoes I told her to take them off becasue she would fall over and die. Luckily she did take them off. I don't think she's ever worn platforms again actually. I was 7. Silly fears as a child I still have now: -Zombies. Seriously. They still make me shat my pants and wake up in starts at night. -Dinosaurs. Jurassic park made me not sleep for a week, and I only saw fifteen minutes of it. Luckily, I share this fear with my dad, so I don't feel so bad. |
I was afraid of the dark when i was little. that was about it.

Something that still bothers me so that I have a really hard time sleeping sometimes: Earthquakes.
The news keeps making me all to aware of them recently, and they're so unpredictable! DX Remember the 1994 earthquake? The pictures of the buildings? And you can't hide or run away from them. Especially the big ones.. D8; |
When I was younger, I thought a whale watched me at night from a little gap between my bookshelf and my dresser. xD lol[/b]
|
I was scared of barney
|
I had a huuge fear of large bodies of water. And then I use to see things at night and was scared of the dark. >':
|
I have always been afraid of thunder and lightening. Lives sorta near tornado alley so they have always been a horrible fate. I hate the tornado alarms it makes me panic, even when they are testing them
