I'm pretty in between and all. I take occasional looks on my keyboard whenever I make a typo but I can go for quite a while without having to look at the keyboard, though my eyes are always on the screen. xD
I've only been on the computer for 2 years..and I finger typed for like, the first year. xDDD; I r teh fails. I hate programs that try to teach you how to touch type..they don't do a damn thing. x_x |
I've been touch typing for... well, as long as I can remember honestly. The only time I don't recall touch-typing was when I was in elementary school learning how to type properly.
I don't think I set my fingers in the 'correct' spots, but I have the location of all the keys memorized by my fingers now. I used to type and look at/talk to my dad. It would freak him out so bad ^-^ |
I touch type, but I do glance at my keyboard to see that I hit the right place when I start writing something xD because sometimes I don't even look at the screen, but talk to someone behind my back and type.. xD
|
im a touch typer because its a lot easier <.< and yeah im very fast in typing too.
|
I'm an insane typer. >>;
I've been typing for over ... 10 years, easily.. I started on old old windows platforms, etc, and i learned before that - when i was growing up, i learned to type on a typewriter. that was a blast. rofl. it's a lot easier. I've taken several typing classes on top of being a die hard role player.. It just comes naturally. i could probably type in my sleep. i know i can type drunk. and i barely ever have to look at the screen when i type. i can sit here and watch t.v. and type. it's a good time. |
I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets driven crazy by people who one finger type and go really slowly while doing so.
Most of my friends had no clue what the litte ridges on the F and J keys were for until I told them that it's so touch typers can find their starting finger places. I would love one of those keyboreds with no letters or numbers on but because alot of people use our computer when they come round we have to have a keybord with numbers and letters on or else alot of people would be very confused. |
I can touch type, but most often I don't since it seems to take more time for me to type that way than how I'm used to typing. I also make more typos if I type that way since I have my own system of typing now.
|
Imma touch typer! : 3 Been a touch typer ever since my hands touched the keyboard, and I didn't know English back then also. I remember in computer class the teacher there was always fascinated by how fast of a touch typer I was.
|
I can touch type, I'm proud of myself that I learned it
by myself, not typing cursuses here. It is called blind typing here by the way. I can also just chat with someone who is next to me sometimes and just keep on typing while having eyecontact with that person. But sometimes, not often, I hit the wrong keys, that I am hitting all the keys next to the keys I want to hit, and then I get realy strange things. For example, on Ragnarok Online you have this monsters, called Grand peco's. So someone asked me once: "Where are you going now?" I typed accidently: "grabd oei;" XD Touched the keys next to the right once. They still tease me with it ;D |
It really depends on what I'm doing, as to whether or not I'm a good touch typer.
I learned how to type on Mavis Beacon, then people started talking to me and were like "Look at this." But I didn't want to stop doing what I was doing so I kept typing and I found that I can do it, with very few mistakes. Now I watch TV and I'm on the computer at the same time. |
I'm very much a touch typer and can look away from the computer screen while typing. I even know when I made a mistake in grammar and maybe a typo when I'm not really paying attention to my fingers when I'm say typing up a paper. I'll be looking at the paper and sometimes my hand will slide a bit too far sometimes, but I know right away. Or if I type to fast I hit the wrong sequence of letters, I know without looking up. It's been programmed into me at an early age when it was a big thing that children learn it. In elementary if we were caught looking down at our keyboard the teacher would delete all of the work we had done and make us start over from scratch so we learned rather quickly - though I admit others didn't. I am a speedy typer at most times, as I'm on the computer for very long spurts and purposefully type with proper grammar and spelling. I haven't been clocked recently however so I can't tell you my word per minute ratio. ^^ I know a lot though that type with one finger and my brother adapted typing with one finger and touch typing and merged them together. I'm not sure how he did it but he's quite the fast typer at most times because of his games. ^^ |
I am a touch typer I have been for 14 years now I learned in high school and have my ten year reunion this year. I am not sure I will even go. I do not see the point. None of my friends have even stayed in touch. When we see each other out we exchange phone numbers and cute comments about the kids we have now but that is as far as it goes. (Back to the point) I love touch typing I can not imagine hunting and pecking. I act like I am listening to people by looking at them but still get what I need to on the screen. XD
It helps for work too. That is how I got promoted to a supervisor when I worked for MSN Technical Support. I was promoted to a Tier 2 support. I had no ACW because I typed up all my notes while on the call with the customer. But it was not the only reason but it really helped. Everyone I know is a hunt and pecker or a what ever you called it. But my husband is really quick. He does not have to look for the keys he is still just a one finger typer though. But just a quick one. He is the quickest I know it sounds like he is using more then one finger at times. O.o |
I can only think of one person who types one fingered at the same spead as a touch typer, I don't know if he's learned how to touch type now. We get taught IT skills but on one teaches how to do touch typing so there are still alot of people who leave school not being able to touch type.
|
I guess you can say that I do a bit of touch typing. I mean, I can do a decent amount of typing without looking at the keys, but I don't do the thing they teach you in school where you put your four fingers on the left and your four fingers on the right and you just lift each finger to press the keys. I don't understand that.
|
I am most definitely a touch-typer. It is just so much faster. At one point, I was IM-ing someone without looking at the screen and saw that I only misspelled a few things, usually when I accidentally switched two letters XD;
How long have I been a touch-typer?... for about two years I believe, possibly a bit more, but that's a good estimate >w< |
I'm very much a touch typer. You kind of have to be with as many computer classes as we take at my school. I've been touch typing since at least middle school, and I'm about to be a senior. I actually find that I type better when I'm not looking at the computer screen. Weird, no?
|
I'm a mix of both really. ^^; I can't stand using home row, so I use just a few fingers at a time and I occasionally glance at the keyboard to fix my position, or if I need to type a key I don't use often (symbols typically).
I can type reasonably fast, but not at the efficient secretary level. Ideally I'd like to improve my speed and maybe stick to using the home row technique, but it's not something I've taken the time to do. ^^; |
I've been touch typing for almost 3 years now. :3 I'm so good. xD Like none of my friends can do it so now they're stereotyping me as "psycho asian nerd" >> lol
|
I see this all the time online, it is a pain when chatting in a messenger or chat type program. It takes forever for them to respond. I learned to touch type when chatting in just such a program. I would stay up late and when typing in the dark it is hard to see the keys. That was about eight years ago lol wow that is a long time. I still have friends who over thirty and can't type.
|
...I didn't know it had a name. XD
But yes, I can touch type and I usually get annoyed when people can't. Most of my friends are fairly fast typers, but when I run across someone who pecks I want to shove them out of the way and do it myself. Slow typing is a pet peeve of mine. And it probably stemmed from the fact that I was forced to take typing classes from first grade all the way up through sixth every year, as well as more typing practice at home. And I sit in the dark most of the time... it's hard to see the keys in the dark. I can type without looking at the screen, but I prefer not to. I like to fix typos as I make them, not have to fix them later. |
Sometimes I can touch type but most of the time i have to look at the keys, I'm a very visual and tactile person. I got to see what I'm touching to make sense most of the time.
Anyways only the "f and j" have little bumps, they help alot but I still hit these when touch typing ";'/.," bothersome, I wonder why they are even there. |
I do a mix =}

Re: Touch typing

I have to look down occasionally. And I can type pretty fast when I am looking down because I play stepmania. Makes me type faster. :] |
Well, I can type pretty fast, but I cannot look away from the keyboard too long... But I can text without looking at my phone... I surprised myself with that today. I was texting and something caught my eye, and I just continued texting...
|
It's called touch typing? Haha, well that's what I do. I never look at the keyboard. I've been typing since elementary school, which is probably why I'm so good at it. I can't stand watching people type with one finger/one hand. I just want to type for them. >__< |
