I can touch type, infact im doing it right now, but I don't type properly. I type with what ever finger is closet to the key that I want.

Camila 04-19-2008 07:20 PM

Touch typer. I've been doing it for maybe.. 2 and ahalf years?
Once in a while I fuck up a key though.
Haha I remember when I used to be a pecker..

HIM_ROCK 04-19-2008 08:23 PM

I never really did any pecking at the keyboard I always did more than one finger on the keys, I always found that easier than one finger for all the keys. I also touch type as best I can with one hand.

True Jelly Oh! 04-19-2008 08:55 PM

I'm not sure if I know anyone who can't touch type, even if I've never heard it referred to as touch typing. I only see people on cartoons or tv shows with really bad acting type with only their index finger. I can look away from the screen when I type, but then I have to worry about spelling. Occasionally, I glance at the keyboard, but that's it.

I was taught to touch type when I was in elementary school, so...yeah.

Maichanz 04-19-2008 09:37 PM

I can't touch type well sadly...but I would like to someday :D I'm not a one fingered typer so I guess that's good, I'm in the middle :D Well, I can touch type a little...I was just touch typing but I make a mistake every sentence or so..

I think I started 'moving on' from the one fingered typing after I discovered MSN XD Oh, and MapleStory :D ... ALTHOUGH, I AM a bit slow.. maybe and average of 35-40 words a min? YES, I did an online typing test just to see XD

You are lucky! D: I am SUPER slow at text messaging on my phone! It would have tooken me like a minute one the phone do type all of this when it takes me like fifteen-ish seconds on the keyboard!

Sir Pixelbag 04-19-2008 09:45 PM

I can touch type pretty quickly.
It's not all that hard once you get used to it. I actually never learned where the keys where. I just gradually developed a knack for it.

Luumi 04-19-2008 10:09 PM

I pretty much learned my typing skills through forum sites like Menewsha. I'm a fast typer, but for some reason I can't type very well without looking at the keyboard. I don't have to see the letters, just the little black boxes. I've tested this by looking at the screen while typing, then putting wax paper over my eyes and typing while looking down. I had many, many less typos with the blurry wax paper. I guess it's because I know where the letters go on the board, but if I can't see the board my mind just mixes everything up and my fingers sprawl across the keys in guesswork.

[.Ravena.] 04-19-2008 11:00 PM

I'm a touch typer. And i can look away from the keyboard and type too. I've done it too my mom before when she was talking to me. I kinda freaked her out xDD

Fabby 04-19-2008 11:03 PM

@critternator-- I can text without looking at the phone as well. I learned how to do it so I could text in class without having to look down. After all, it's pretty much a dead giveaway what you're doing if you're staring intently down at your lap. Ha.

ZeldaFlower 04-20-2008 01:33 AM

Touch typing. For about seven years now, probably more, but I cannot remember when I started. The schools taught us how in sixth grade, I think. I think my mom tried to teach me how before that, with mario teaches typing.
Although I have never called it touch typing. It's the real way to use a keyboard.
It is quite cumbersome to type with one hand, when you are holding something else with the other, and I think to myself, how do people who don't know how to type live?? kidding. It just takes forever to type each key out like that.

Lindsay_chan 04-20-2008 01:56 AM

I touch type.. I used to one-finger type and if you're really good at it, then its not really much slower, I was pretty damn good at it but somehow I just switched to touch typing as I started using the computer more and I do type faster this way but I make more mistakes I think.. one-finger typing is cool and different and stubborn against touch typing and all but if you wanna get a job involving typing then its pretty unprofessional... and if you have to take a computer class in high school. then they'll beat you or something if you try to one-finger type.. the typing programs they make you do won't let you one-finger type, they want you to conform and unify and stuff.. evil..

Intoxicate 04-20-2008 02:03 AM

I touch type. It's really not hard at all and it's more efficient for me than typing one handed. I've learned in 5th grade and now I'm at about 85 wpm or so depending on the situation. However, I still occasionally look at the keyboard for symbols I almost never use, as well as numbers.
Although most people think that everyone types faster as a touch typer, my friend personally does faster with one-finger typing(one to each hand, so two-finger, really). She can type at 121 wpm with just two fingers while looking at the keyboard and only 50-something touch typing with all 10 fingers.

icandiee 04-20-2008 02:00 PM

Touch typing is better :3
But I kinda make my mistakes because I type too fast >___<
But I can look away and still type :3
I've learnt it since gr 4, so I guess 6 years?

Mythium 04-20-2008 02:11 PM

I guess I'm a touch typer, but that's really only when I'm at school, because when I'm at home, I'm usually looking at the keyboard, but just not as much. I type faster when I'm thinking about what I'm about to type, not copying a letter. When I'm just copying I usually key about 47 wpm. When I'm just typing short fragments of sentences I type around 77 wpm. :3
I love typing. I don't like the one finger though. My art teacher does that, and I already hate her, but when she types you can hear the "TAP TAP TAP" of her stupid one finger typing.
It's so annoying. >>

Icicles 04-20-2008 10:29 PM

I can touch type. I prefer not to. My wpm is 45 when I do but when I look I can usually get 60+. They used to make us put these covers over out keyboards in school and do 59+ levels of typing on this stupid-ass program...horrible...cruel..

Bread Chan 04-20-2008 10:32 PM

I'm a touch typer. I took a computer class, so I guess that helped. =D

[Kitsune] 04-21-2008 12:57 AM

i cant touch type... but i do get typos sometimes. i usually only touch type though, when i am talking to friends through yahoo messenger, aim, you know like when your in chat rooms. i also use touch typing when i am typing out homework. i don't know my wpm yet. i never tried finding out and i never really took a computer class. i mean we did in elementary, but all we did was go on the program kid pix or something like that, and paint on the computer and just print it out afterwards. i have been touch typing for about 2 years now i think. :3

I am a "touch typer" although I have never heard it referred to in that way. o.O

Quote:

Definitely Touch typing, its so much faster and more efficient.

Quote:

*If you're a touch typer how long have you been touch typing.*
Probably about 5-7 years or so, that is when I got my on computer.

Quote:

*If you're a one fingered typer would you learn how to touch type.*
I used to have to look down when I typed and every once in awhile I do but not much. I tried to learn to type the "proper" way but it didn't work and I ended up learning just from chatting. After while you fingers memorize the keys out of routine.

*Do you know a lot of people who can't touch type.*
There are a lot of them surprisingly. My husband one-finger types and so does my dad and brother. I think most people who don't have computers or don't use typewriters just don't have have the practice so it makes sense that they don't type. When I first started I thought I would never be able to do it but know I am super speedily and I didn't even notice the progression of my learning how to! XD

Majinkoz 04-21-2008 06:51 PM

I am a tough typer. I don't have to look at the keyboard or even the screen when I type. I can talk to my friends or whatever, look around the room when I type...which is nice when you have a lot essay or something to write. ^^

I am a very fast typer.

Yeah 04-21-2008 07:57 PM

I'm a touch typer, it would get very annoying to do the hunt and peck.

Invert 04-22-2008 07:08 AM

The only thing I can't touch type are numbers, as in I'm not hundred percent sure while I'm typing it. But I think I can type those pretty accurately as well.

12345678910.
...Yep.
:]

MrsGrape 04-22-2008 07:38 AM

I am totally a touch typer which leads me to believe that I should have some profession in which I use those talents, however, that might get boring. So I save the fast typing for online chatting in forums! Woot woot!

BlackDinah 05-11-2008 02:00 AM

My mother still gets creeped out when I carry on a full conversation while typing, even though I'm looking at her. Just wierds some people out...
