Someone mentioned it in another thread and it got me to thinking about it. I really only remember 1 incident. I was at the store about a week before stocking up for our New Years party and things were starting to get picked pretty clean. Staples and stuff were disappearing pretty quickly. Right in front of me as I was passing the lovely jar and canned meat section two old ladies broke out in a fist fight over what appeared to be a king sized jar of pickled pigs feet. I didn't know weather to laugh or cry, it was so darned sad and funny at the same time. Anyone else remember any stories from then?

haha, I always thought that was pretty stupid! We did get told that we had no homework towards the end of the year because the world was ending and we wouldn't be able to do it...by some teachers. The others said that we were still getting homework regardless of whether the world ended or not. They would however except the excuse that the world had ended if it was signed by your doctor. ^_^ We thought it was amusing, but that's about the extent of the madness :P

lol, that's hilarious. Grannies fighting over pickled pigs feet...
While I was around during this time, I wasn't particulary sure how to feel about it. I was... 10, I think. The world ending? Nah, just civilized (computerized) life. Oops. I don't really have a funny story, just that my teachers felt the same way about the homework... >.< honestly... I'd have given the kids a break.

My family didn't buy into it.
But we did shop regularly at this place that sells things in bulk. So as we got closer to Y2k, we saw LOTS of people who would be loading up cart after cart with gatorade and canned foods. I just laughed internally at them. XD
I was 9, so I was a little scared about it, just because it gotten so many adults riled up. But I still knew deep down that nothing would go wrong.
I remember on New Years Eve, I was listening to the radio, and this DJ was like "Australia has officially entered the year 2000, and everything's fine over there." The DJ was probably resisting making fun of everyone.

I think the most that anyone I was around did was my dad--he stocked up on water in huge pop bottles. Although I think that was mainly to irritate my mother.
I heard about a family where they cut the lights to make it look like something had happened. XD

Makes you wonder though. You know what the whole fuss was about? The fact that the way our technology counts years was frequently shortened to two digits not four.
Yeah, real end of the world stuff there! Yes it did effect a fair few systems, but nothing major and it was all corrected within days.

It was insanity in some areas. Basically it boiled down to dates in electronics. The 19 was set, it would not go over to the 20. So when the year 2000 rolled around they would all go to 1900 instead and this would cause system malfunctions and crashes and all that. It really was pretty ridiculous though.

I hadn't ever heard anything about the world ending before. The year 2000 seemed like any other year to me. I suppose I was lost in ignorance around that time. Though I have to admit. I'dve laughed at other people had I known what was supposed to happen.
