Yes, I eat meat. Sort of.
I'll eat stuff like chicken, ham (mm, bacon) and beef, but I rarely eat anything else if I can help it. It's not that I think that chicken, pigs and cows are below any other animals... it's just that I've been eating it for so long that I don't really think about it anymore.
When I do think about the animals that my food come from, I get grossed out. I can't eat lamb chops, for instance, because 'lamb' is in the name. Chicken's different, I guess, because I think of it as the name of a food not the name of an animal? >__>
My aunt has been a vegetarian for years. She was a vegan once, but I think she found it too hard so she just gave it up. Likewise, my sister called herself a vegetarian for a while last year but she still ate white meat, so she dropped the label.
If I could, I'd stop eating meat. But the fact is that humans are omnivores, I don't eat much meat at all, and what I do eat I find delicious and it would be incredibly hard to break the habit.
I don't know. I've always really admired vegetarians and vegans. I respect them, too - I don't make a big show of eating meat, and I expect that they won't cuss me out or anything for eating it, too. One time when I was nine I accidentally dropped a piece of chicken on my vegetarian friend's head while she was sitting down and watching her reaction really upset me.

Humans have alkaline-based saliva, which is characteristic of herbivores... carnivores have acid-based saliva.
Like a_shy_girl_1999 said, the way we obtain meat is nothing like how animals do it in the wild. Do you go out and hunt down animals yourself? Doubt it, you probably buy processed chunks from the grocery store in which case you contribute to an industry that keeps animals in tiny spaces, literally feeds them shit, and murders them.
It's not just ANIMALS that are murdered either; your fellow human beings get killed and severely injured in the process of getting that meat to you too. It is one of the most dangerous jobs in the US. Meatpacking plants have extremely quick production lines which leads to accidents and lower sanitation standards. Some workers resort to using a highly dangerous and addictive drug, methamphetamine, to keep up with production line speeds. I could segue into the meatpacking giants' negative effects on traditional small family farms, the economy, public health, the fast food industry, the government, etc. but hopefully you get the idea already.
|
*nods in agreement* Yes! That is one of the dangerous jobs out there too. People do get hurt as well.
-------------------------------------
Also for anyone who wants to see what goes on ... those that say that animals kill animals so why is it any different for us? check out this: www.meetyourmeat.com (warning, this site has videos that are gruesome) ... that is what goes on in most of the farms now-a-days ... is this how animals kill other animals in the wild? heck no!

Yes. I like meat. Because it tastes good and us eating animals is just part of the ecosystem.
So whatever.

I a planning on becoming vegetarian when I turn 18 (in a couple weeks). My parents wouldn't let me because they said it was "unhealthy" and I was "still growing". But now I avoid meat as much as possible.
But I did a ten page paper on the way animals were treated and it really upset me. While doing my research I found out that vegetarians are a lot healthier and people weren't even made to eat meat.
If you just do a little research yourself you'd see what I mean. Poor animals. :(

That depends, factory farms are anything BUT part of the ecosystem.
If you hunt responsibly then that would be true. Thing is there are so many of us that if everyone hunted, it wouldn't be part of the ecosystem anymore either. At least not a balanced part.

Yea, I eat meat. And how do I deal with vegans? Well I don't mind them as long as they don't rant about how wrong it is to eat meat because the animals have short lives or whatever. I mean we don't go around telling vegans that what they eat is grown in cow waste. I think it's a good thing that we eat meat. In my view, God sent Adam and Eve animals AND fruit. They ate both I would assume. So why not take advantage of what we have here on Earth?
I also had an ex-girlfriend that became a generic vegan for like a week and then started eating meat again. I asked her, "WTF was the point."
She had no answer, because she knew that anything she would say would be negated by the fact that she ate MEAT again.
I do see what you mean about the treating of animals though. It is pretty cruel.

I'm not a vegetarian although I would like to, mainly red meat because its not that great for you. I find it hard though because of the fact I'm so used to having meat as a part of my diet.

I do to when I watch it, I actually can't bear to watch the whole thing either. The video that they have on there is more of a wake-up call. Explaining what goes on in the farm houses and how those animals are treated. I even used that video on meetyourmeat.com as a part of my term paper back in high school, and in my animal rights speech for oral communications ...

I eat meat all the time, I couldn't live without it. I think I eat it more then any other food. I don't really have an opinion about vegetarians, they can do what they want, it's their decision, just as I choose to eat meat. I try not to think about what happened to the animals, cause then it just depresses me. But I mean, there's no other way to do it, really, unless you go for fake meat and stuff which is just nasty.

It's good if you know how to cook it right ... There are so many alternatives out there .. I even have had vegan lunch meat and it was scary how similliar it tasted to the real stuff ... I can say though ... there is just one thing that doesn't take anywhere near the real thing .. which is vegan slice cheese ... it tastes like sandpaper ... but vegan cream cheese is the best!! there is even vegan ice cream ... you can make just about anything vegan or vegetarian ... its not that hard ... hey if your interested, I can point you to many recepies to try different things that are animal friendly ...

I don't really understand when you ask "How do you deal with Vegans/vegetarians". Because I just let them be? It's their decision whether or not they want to eat meat. I eat meat because I think it's good. But sometimes I question myself because I think about how the animals are treated and stuff... And just for me to eat. I do not dislike non-meat eaters at all. It's a good thing that they are doing something about something they think is wrong. I do think it's wrong... but hey, it's life. There are a lot of wrong things being done but no one is stopping them.

Vegan ice cream...
There are so many yummy vegan desserts.
I admit I haven't had any vegan "meat" that tastes like the real thing, but then again I don't seek it out. I no longer consider meat to be food... eating meat makes as much sense to me as eating my socks.

Of course it isnt going to taste the same, but some of them are close that its scary. If you go into a heath food store as them if they have vegan turkey slices, or something like that (i forget, i haven't had them in a loong time). And try it if you want to.
Vegan ice cream is the best, you should try it ;) there are a lot out there and there a re a few that are just dairy-free but are not vegan, you have to check the label. one that I have is called "tofutti cutie bars" (thoes are yummy and vegan)

I eat meat because it tastes good. I've heard stories about how cruelly these animals were treated in life, and I sympathize for them. But I doubt I could go a day without eating it.
I don't like it when people try to get me to not eat meat. I just don't like it in general when other people impose their ideas upon me and expect me to agree. >:
In response to ZombieJehuty's post, Darwin is applicable in eating meat, since the fittest get killed regardless. HAHA, THAT WAS POINTLESS BUT I NEEDED TO POST IT SINCE MY SCIENCE PAPER IS ON THAT SUBJECT. :D

I don't see the point in not eating something if it tastes good.

eat what you want. as long as it isnt little kids
some of the things said about meat is rather silly.
that humans dont need it. and that if everyone ate veggies the world would be better....
when sooo many factors can come from that
-domestic animals are breed to be Used
-there are people who are born, who have bodies that specifically require a meat diet
-protein and various fishes/meats. are good for a developing body...this depends on diet
-land to grow food. with millions of people to each country...yes. veggies can grow low
and there are many factors how crops can fail
lol eating meat is how Humans came to be.
we are Omnivores.
and a bunch of other stuff

I don't dislike them, I just don't get it, you can't be healthy without meat unless you eat a bunch of protein crap, which I don't think tastes good at all, but I just hate when they expect you to compensate for them, like if I want to make hamburgers, but they want pasta or something without meat, then they should make their own meal

It's incredably ignorant to assume that all animals that are bred for food are treated badly... because they aren't.
All of the meat, eggs, milk etc. are from completely organic, free-range animals. And I don't just take the supermarket's word for it, I actually buy all of my animal products (and the vast majority of my fruit and veg, too) directly from the farms.
I go down, say hello to the farmers, buy whatever I want, and often stay to have a look around.
I know for a fact the animals I eat aren't mistreated, because I've seen them for myself.
This way, I'm not encouraging the mis-treatment of animals, and I'm supporting local, independant businesses.
Sure, it's sometimes more expensive, but it's totally worth it.

After i heard how KFC treated the chicken my freind and i started a huge protest and we didnt eat meat for like a year. we had a lot of people become aware of the poor treatment of the animals but generally people are selfish, we dont like to get our hands dirty unless it directly involes us
