Well well well, it's Menewsha! I don't know if you guys remember me (New kids >_>) but My name is Kristoph Kampmann.

I once frequented the forums of menewsha quite often and have come back from a brief tour to see it changed very greatly.

Too kick it off, I must say my short tour was just guard duty, but It got me a promotion to Sergeant First Class in the Army. Although I am not proud of what I did over the short tour of guard duty I was on, I must say at least i wasn't in a damnable dust bowl.




Anyways. Onto the discussion. After coming back and seeing a heavy amount of ROTC presence at my cousins school, I would like to ask....


Have you ever considered joining the Military, or at least the Military Reserves?

Personally, I wouldn't right now. Why? Shooting war. Bad. It eats up new recruits like termites at a house. Wait until we get a new president, children.

There was a time when I wanted to join the military so they can like, pay for my college and all, but with all the chaos going on right now involving war and stuff. Well, not really a good idea. xDD

I thought about joining a branch of the military for a while, not as a soldier but as an engineer. I go to a magnet school right now for engineering, so I thought "why not put these skills to use for our country?"
Then I decided against it. Being away from the ones I love may just kill me. D:
My dad was in the navy though, and my uncle in the air force, grandfather an Okinawa veteran from WW2... I have an elaborate history.
But, alas, its not for me.

I had wanted to go to the air force academy at one point. Then I discovered there was no way I was going to lose enough weight or be on a varsity sport. And since then I've seriously thought about it twice. I almost joined up after high school, but I decided not to because of the war. My family's already small enough. And my cousin and my uncle are/were both army. ^^;;

ack, I kept getting recruitment letters from the national guard ._.
I don't think I'm quite fit for that kind of stuff though ><

And no,I hate the NJROTC program at my school, and I have horrible luck, so I would be sent out the day I joined, and shot the minute I steped out of the bus.

Yeah. Bad nightmares from my injuries.
I got over them after I started playing Kingdom of Loathing.

You'll be on a boat, or in some naval base looking at boats. If you're on a carrier, you have the chance of getting hit by a runaway plane or something.
Want to accelerate? Airforce or marines.

I would have to say no, I wouldn't join the army. My brother entertained thaughts of joining the reserves (we're Canadian) but mainly for money. I know he never will... he waffles on everything.

It would be difficult for me to join anyway since I grew up in Saudi Arabia and theyre actually fairly anal about checking out your arrest record here... and SA's beurocratic records are as slow as molasses with getting back on anything.

I would rather to the construction work or help work for those coming home or back them up. I just know I don't have the psych to take what would happen if I did join the army.

I had debated on joining ARNG ages ago,probably to get dad's attention basically lol.But then I got preggy,and that went out the door.Might have worked out better for me, my smart mouth may have gotten me in trouble,and I dont do 4-5 am very well either.Fly out of bed,PT clothes,then off to PT..no thanks! I admire anyone who can/does though,and give heaps of respect to those brave souls.
My ex hubby was active duty army at one point,we was stationed at Rucker,so in a way,I kinda was in,just the wife/civvie side.Which is not all peaches n cream either.
And SS is right,anyone that joins now,is most likely gonna see the sandbox at least once.I went with a friend to a recruiter,and he straight up confirmed that.Depends on your MOS,naturally.So yeah,anyone considering joining,think real hard about it!
