Some sites really go overboard with their forums. The ones that bug me the most are the forums with tons of sub-forums and very few posters. It's off-putting when the only discussion you ever see is someone warning a member for posting in the wrong forum.

I like organization as much as the next guy, but if you have a small forum with few posters, sorting every thread into a sub-forum of its own is not the way to foster discussion and a sense of community. XD

I know. They can be a bit more broad. I especially hate the GD and the CD. That gets me all the time. It's like discussing something about a site and they are all like GTFO. I hate when people get so upset about it too. It's like, "Is it really that serious?"

XD When I was new to gaia, I had a bit of trouble figuring out what went where. I was pretty newbish, and I even made the mistake of making a borderline troll thread in the AMC (though I didn't even know it was trolling, or what people meant when they called me a troll). I got flamed so badly, I actually left the account and made a new one.

Basically it was a thread about how beyblade sucked.
I thought it was so obvious, no one could disagree with me.

Ahhh, Gaia. It has so many flaws, but I don't want to leave it... especially after all the money I've invested in it. :gonk:

oh lawdy, they hate trolls. They won't take any mercy if they even THINK you're a troll. and dont leave. I has donated to gaia also. If you contributed I say you stay and should consider yourself a valued member of gaia.

Oh god, I know. And they are very drama-queenish. Constant complaints, tons of anger... I've been on the site since late 04 early 05, and I've made dozens of accounts. I'm worth a few mil, and I've made a lot of friends there. I don't think I'll ever really leave, even when it becoems a total wasteland.

Seeing Menewsha, though, it reminds me of the fabled Gaia of Old. I never experienced it myself, but if this is what Gaia was like inthe old days, I understand why Oldbies complain.

That's one of the reasons I'm worried about starting threads, I never know where they go so now I always put 'if this doesn't go here I'm sorry!'. Plus the first and, before now, only forum I've ever been on was Gaia and I usually stay in the ED and they're so very cruel when you post in the wrong place, I have tried to politely re-direct them before they get mauled to death by regulars but I'm usually too late or they think I'm having a go :o, I guess that's the problem with forums you can post something meaning it one way and someone can read it a different way.

Yeah, that's definetly a scary thing abotu the internet... except for emoticons, it's very hard to interpret the emotions the other person is trying to display. Ideas that would be very easy to get across face to face get really contorted, and people sometimes skim until they see certain key words.... and then a fight breaks out based on what someone ELSE has posted, not on your actual topic!

I hate things like that. It's just like my friend told me, "What's obvious to you isn't obvious to everyone else, so you have to be careful with your writing".

I learnt that in a thread about boycotting the Olympics when someone went on about how everyone is focussing on the bad things China has done and not ever mentioning the good they've done. I said that bad out weighs good meaning that bad is always focused on more and they were really nasty and said I was talking out my ass and were generally rude because they thought I meant that there was more bad than good. Definitely taught me not to assume people would know what I was talking about and even when I explained what I was actually meaning they just ignored me and didn't even apologise. I thought I deserved an apology I was only commenting on what they'd put and they misunderstood me and verbally/textually attacked me. :gonk:
