Wow, I just noticed this tonight. Have you ever been the first one to post on a thread after the author's post? Then after you noticed you were first you go back and edit it saying 1STPOSTWOOT!

I just did this not even 5 minutes ago and thought to myself, "WTF is so good about being first?"

So what do you think the pride in being first is?

I think the pride is that even though you didn't go through the trouble of creating a popular thread, your post will always be the first reply to be read, and most of the people who read the thread will read your post.

I've always thought it was pretty ridiculous, actually.

I never saw an actual purpose for it, so I never did such a thing. It's the equivalent of trying to speak first after someone says something, and in reality, you would usually get shunned by others after such an attempt. >___>;

but I'd have to agree with the first poster.
Your response to the thread is most likely going to be read,
where as the responses further down the page or on the other pages won't be read.

Because we're lame and need to find joy in all the small things in life. Hey it's not a bad thing. Everyone wants to feel special sometimes.

Never done it myself... I mean, posting that you have the first post? Helloooo Captain Obvious! Granted, you feel good when you are first at something, no matter what that something is, but boasting about a first post - especially using a word like WOOT - doesn't really seem worth it, to me.

I don't really get what's good about being first..

I've never done the "1stcommentYay!" thing, mostly because I've never understood what it's about. (Plus, I'm never actually first anyway...)
Is it for the adrenaline kick? For the fame? For the lulz? I have no idea.

Seeing the "Yay! 1st" thing can be sort of annoying it nothing else is said in the post (I see it a lot on livejournal particularily). I don't really mind it if it's in a reply but people who spam "1st!" without saying anything else... It really bugs me for some reason.
Plus, scrolling through ten different "1st!" or "1st?" posts gets old very quick.

LOL I don't get why it's a big deal either. I assume people are just being silly. I don't see how it could make anyone "famous". Too many threads to remember. XD Being first just means you were there at the right place at the right time is all. n_n
