Well I am glad that you are finally learning now, it is never too late to start learning something like riding the bike!
You already received tons of great tips from people here, so I guess there is no need for me to tell you.
Once you can ride it well it's a great thing to do with friends. I know that during the summer I usually go bike riding with all my friends around to mall's and parks.

Personally, I was able to ride a two-wheeler at the age of 5 because I lived in a neighborhood where all the children were playful and in order to keep up with them I had to learn to ride the bike. My dad was the one who taught me how to ride. I remember him 'pushing' me down a small hill for the first time with two wheels and I became really scared and ended up losing my balance and falling xD
That was a very scary thing for me at the time because I truly believed I couldn't do it when I actually could have if I didn't get scared.

Bicycles are fun, I hope you'll learn soon.
How come you JUST started learning? D;

I learned young so i could ride a bike with my brother and cousins. Unfortunetly, due to my bicycle getting taken apart ("I SWEAR I can put it back together, Erica.") and living down the street from a dangerous neighborhood, I don't get the oppurtunity to ride one.

But I know if i got a bike right now, I could ride it. I really don't think I COULD forget how to ride a bike. XD

dont worry, a lot of people your age cant, believe it or not. good luck!

I'm really proud of you on learning! I hope you will see this as being a strong person.

One thing I found when I first started learning, was that the harder I gripped the handlebars, the more I crashed it. Try your best to relax, physically at least, because it may help.

Stabilisers are great, if you're having trouble with keeping your balance. But I'm not sure that you'd be willing to use them heh.

Having someone stand behind you, holding the back of your seat and walking with you while you pedal can help with balance while you're getting started. Quite often once you get going they can let go and you're fine.

Don't feel so bad, I can't skate-On rollerblades, ice skates, or even a skateboard. My balance is awful too.:)

But riding a bike isn't all that hard. Once you get it, you never forget it. :angel:

I wish you good luck!
And it's not hard at all [once you get the hang of it; balance].
I haven't ridden a bicycle in years, and I'm positive I still remember.

My sister, on the other hand, is terrified, and claims that she forgot/doesn't know how to ride it. =__=;

Hey that's perfectly fine that it took you awhile to learn how to ride a bike. I myself didn't learn until I was 12 years old...I think I was too scared of falling down. Half the time I would watch my brothers and sisters and see them wipe out all the time...I think that kind of scared me off of it until my grandpa convinced me it was time for me to learn.
The crazy thing is that right after I learned I wiped out and twisted my wrist. It hurt like crazy.

AyaKuagari 06-08-2008 04:08 PM

don't be embarrassed. i learned how to ride a bike when i was 7 or 8. dunno why i didn't do it at a younger age like some other people.. oh well. and my brother, he didn't learn how to ride a bike until he was 14. you wouldn't believe how happy he was when he learned.. but now he has this motorized scooter >.< that scares the living daylights out of me.. i've been on it once...in my basement xD and almost broke my neck. the second it started moving i screamed and started saying "where are the brakes... JEEZ PEOPLE WHERE ARE THE FLIPPIN BRAKES" so there are some things people can't ride and other people can. my brother hasn't ridden a bike in a couple of years now but i'll bet he still knows how. i haven't been on a bike in about a year and a half myself(my old bike broke down so many times, i got tired of taking it to the store to get it fixed so i threw it out) but when i get a new bike, i'm planning on riding it all the time, i'm sure i still remember. so like everyone else said, once you learn you never forget. i applaud you for working up the courage to learn.

That alright I learned to ride a bike only when I was 13 or 14 dunno but in my teens for sure.
My little brother could ride a bike at a early age but I was just scared to try. I was used to my four wheeler and its not the same with the usual two wheel.

Thats good you finally got it and you wont ever forget.
I need to start biking again and hope that my bike hasn't rusted.

But every time I tried to learn when I was a child I would fall and break my arm. So I kinda have a fear of them now. Not to machine ( mention?) that Ive been ran over by one.

Ouch, I hit a small child with my bike before and felt bad.
While I was passing them on the sidewalk, at that moment they tipped over and and fell into my path. I couldn't stop in time and hit them while they were laying on the ground. It was a bad concidence that they happened to fall off their bike at the exact moment I was going past.

I do bike, except I've had some bad experiences with falls so I will walk down steep hills and hit my breaks if I'm going faster then I feel safe.
My parents are avid bikers and tease me about it. Yes it may make me look silly at times. Thing is they went on a bike trip once , one of the people went down a very steep hill at high speeds hit a tree and died!. They were even wearing a helmet at the time.
So....I don't have terribly good cordination and if I feel uncomfortable, I'm going to stop and or get off my bike.

I learned how to use a bike when I was either, 9, 10, or 11. I can't remember but I'm thinking closer to 11. D: But I know how to now except I can not stand up on one. You don't forget once you learn. :)
Good job. *thumbs up*

Kaelin Devereux 06-17-2008 03:38 AM
