Cherry ran her first errand today!
I drove up to the post office (with my mom, since I only have my learner's permit), went in all by myself, mailed a package, and then drove all the way home.
I've mailed packages before, and I've driven by the post office before, but this was the first time I've ever combined the two. And the first time I've ever actually DRIVEN somewhere. (Normally I just drive around aimlessly to get practice)

It's a tiny little thing, but it made me feel all grown up. :D

So, Menewsha, I'd like for you to relate similar stories to me.
Like....
Things that made you feel grown up
Driving
Doing "grown up" things on your own
Hey, Squidward, are you finished with those errands? Are you finished with those errands? Are you finished with those errands, Squidward? Errands? Errands? Are you finished with those errands? Are finished with those er- *shot*

I don't want to grow up. :o I'm 18 in two months and don't have a job. (mostly because my parents wont let me because I gotta watch the kids.)
I don't have my license only my permit (my parents never take me to practice driving.)

lol, oh well. I love being a "child." I don't want to grow up anymore =[

It's certainly scary.
But I'm moving out in a year, so I can't post pone in it any longer, unless I want to have a meltdown. Living on my own (well, partially on my own. I'll be with my boyfriend. I mean, away from adults) is scary and new enough on it's own. I don't want to be worrying about driving and doing the laundry on top of all of that!

Hahaha, that's cute! :O

I've been driving for a few years now, so I'm used to it. Errands, loud music and friends, quiet company, all of it. When I first started out, as you do when you're about 14-16, I was terrified. I was given a brand new Volkswagen Beetle, but it was a manual. I swore I would never, ever, in my entire life, drive a manual. I just couldn't get it out of the first gear smoothly and I would break down every time I tried to drive it.
So, I learned with a friend of the family, and within a few days, I became an expert.

It's a little scary at first when you're sent out to run errands or do something you want like go to the movies. You realize what your parents meant when they said "no jumping around in the car" etc.. Suddenly you see all the little details and the traffic signs and such, so it's an entirely different world. You'll get used to it and become a pro.

Lots of luck to you.

Paper Crane - Aww, you got a beetle? Awesome. Those are such cute and good little cars. What color is it?

Yes, I'm definitely noticing every single detail.
I'm not quite comfortable enough to take my eyes off the road enough to frequently check the speedometer (but I do, of course, check it), I try to judge my speed just by if it feels like what my mom normally does when driving down whatever road I'm on.
But it feels so much faster when you're in the driver's seat. I'll think I'm speeding, only to find that I'm doing 5 or 10 mph under the limit. XD

And thank you!

Silver. Vroom, vroom.

Oh I know. These days, I have trouble driving an automatic because it seems so boring. With a manual, you've got to be aware of everything about the road because of shifting. And you have a lot more to pay attention to. There is no texting on the road or using your phone because you need both hands. I saw a woman reading the newspaper at the steering wheel once. I was just flabbergasted.

Oh yes, things seem faster at first.
Until your first speeding ticket.

I started driving a couple of days. I'm late because I got my permitt late in the summer and just didn't really wanted to drive. But now I need to get my liscene and my get a summer job as well. I trying Best Buy and other ideas. I feel a little grown up now since my parents are allowing to do alot of things by myself. Like registring for summer art classes downtown and trying to find my own job.

Paper Crane - Oh, silver, that's cute.
Normally, I hate silver on cars. But beetles pull it off quite well. ^^
Audis, too.... *has a bit of a thing for luxury cars.... and economy hatchbacks*

Oh, I think a stick would be too much for me to handle. o_o As it is, I can barely handle shifting into reverse and then back into drive! XD

Oh god, I bet. o_o
I had to pull out in front of a cop today at an intersection and nearly had a heart attack. XD His presence just made me nervous.
I pulled up to the stop sign and my mom was like "You have the right of way." and I was like "Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck" until the cop car turned and was no longer behind me. XD

Good L!fe - Awesome!
Hmm. Best Buy sounds like a nice place to work. Maybe I should consider applying there too!

OMG YEA!! Great job!! I'm proud of you! I have my permit to and I'm getting my license in a month. I went into the bank a few days ago and deposited my check all by myself. Yay we are growing up!

Ooh, I felt that way when I drove my family out for dinner and gelato. :)
I got my permit a month or so ago (I could've gotten it earlier, but the lady at the attendance window has a personal vendetta against punctual students, especially those who want Verifications of Enrollment.).
I'm actually a pretty decent driver, but I'm a bit shy about turning right because on my first time driving, I crashed into someone that way (I've gotten better I swear!). But my driving school has us say what we're doing and point out everything on the road when we're driving. That makes me all panicky. I don't like to talk and do something I'm concentrating on at the same time.

[L]ove - Ooh, depositing a check AND driving? That's DOUBLEY grown up! XD
I need a checking account. ._ . I have no use for one right now, but if I want to get a job, I'll need one.

Sethakira - Ahh, yes, sloth. I'm familiar with it.
And I'm 16. I'll be 17 in less than a month, though. So basically, I'm 17.

Bubblegum - Ooh, I bet that was fun. Taking your family somewhere.

Ooh, yeah, that'd make me panicky too. DX
Like, just the part of the test where they make you look in the little machine and say what road signs you see panicked me. I mean, I KNEW what the signs meant, I just have problems saying it, y'know?
And trying to do that WHILE TRYING TO DRIVE would freak me out. So I feel your pain.

And you crashed? DX Oh god, that would wreck my confidence.
I ALMOST got in an accident a few weeks ago. I started to pull into an intersection when there was a car coming. In my defense, I could barely see that way because of a fence, and the car looked MUCH farther away than it was. I thought I could make it.

Toki - Errand buddies! :D

I felt really grown-up when I watched my aunt's house while they were on vacation. I had the entire house to myself for an entire week. ((I was responsible; no parties or anything)). I felt so proud of my self, taking care of the animals and cooking for myself without an adult hanging over my shoulder. ^^

Or at least... you know you can for a week. XD

Hahahaha..... I really SHOULD get my permit soon....I'm fifteen, and unlike most kids my age, i'm absolutely terrified of driving. I swear I have partial ADD, since I run into trees when I drive the lawnmower. If I run into trees on a riding lawnmower, imagine the possibilities with driving an actual CAR.

Casey - Well, you'll be much more focused in a car, I'm sure. ^^ With a lawnmower, it's not really a big deal if you run into a tree. Since you're going all of like, 5 mph. But in a car, you have much more power, so I think you'd naturally be more careful, since you'd know it was serious business, not just riding around on a john deere.

Cherry - Pfft. The lawnmower actually goes about 15 mph, so it's pretty fast for a lawnmower. xD But yeah, I suppose you're right. I'm still terrified of driving though. And my dad loves it. xD

Well, it's worth a shot, right?
If you have problems paying attention to it, then just stop driving, and give yourself some time, then come back to it a few months later and try again.
And start in like, a parking lot or some deserted street or something. Where there isn't anyone to hit.

I felt the same way a few years ago. =3

I went to the grocery store and picked up a few items, and checked everything out using coupons and cards and cash. Drove myself there and back, and I felt great afterwards. Well, relieved at first that I didn't crash or get pulled over, and that I did something without complications.

Eventually, everything becomes smooth and you don't even think about it. The only accomplishments you really acknowledge is the ability to get through rush hour traffic in record time.

I realised I was comfortable driving when I couldn't remember how I'd gotten places. My brain was on such auto pilot doing everything (changing gears, excelerating, breaking etc) that I drove places without realising it (this was on 6am starts... never got into an accident though or fell asleep which is lucky).
What made me feel grown up? Buying my own toilet paper lol, needing to pay bills and rent. yuck! Being able to go to the fridge and grab an alcoholic drink without asking my parents for permission.

All of that, much fun! :)

Ugh, any of the following combined would make me feel grown up:

~driver's permit
~a part-time job
~able to shop for my own clothes
~cook a whole meal for myself

And I saw a lady painting her fingernails. >_>

I felt grown up when I got my learners permit, but I STILL haven't started driving yet. My dad can't be bothered >_>
I also felt "grown-up" when I got offered a job.. but I turned it down

Hmn, things that made me feel grown up! Well, going to Zambia Africa all on my own; without my parents, brother and with a group of 9 other people I didn't even know. Going through customs in a foreign country all on my own. Bartering for items all on my own, while in Africa. Oh BUNGEE JUMPING AT VICTORIA FALLS ALL BY MYSELF, and being the first person of that day to jump!
