These shoes are $300. Let's get 'em!
I just had a few shopping days, and the whole time, I was just amazed at the price ranges. Something as simple as a purse could cost $200 just because of the designer. I don't know about you, but that's a month's worth of groceries, right there, and yet someone's willing to pay for it.
Name brands like Hollister or Abercrombie can also be really expensive... Is it the design? The cut? The fact that the crowd's wearing them? ~What makes you spend a decent amount on name brand clothing or accessories? ~Do you just buy anything that you like, or do you limit yourself to certain stores? ~How often do you go shopping? The only store I really focus on is Pacific Sunwear, but that's only for hoodies. I get years out of them. Sometimes if they have a sale on tops and I see something that I like, I'll get something, but I can't say that most of my clothes come from that one store alone. |
Abercrombie just amazes me,100 dollars for a shirt is not my cup of tea,i usally stick with American eagle..or something like that,i usually go shopping on the weekends, either for food or clothes,Though,i try to keep myself from spending alot on clothes, maybe 250 or under, thats about it =S
|
Yeah, I think I've been told of an $80 shirt in Hollister before. I don't get it. The fabric is so flimsy, so I can't see durability being a reason to buy it...
|
I really don't find Hollister or Abercrombie very expensive. Most of their shirts are $20-$40. I don't usually shop there though except for hoodies because their clothes fit me really poorly, I like AE better.
I don't see the problem in buying name brand/designer things as long as it's something you're going to get alot of use out of... I think it IS silly when young teens/preteens do though because they grow out of it so fast it seems like a waste. I have a bunch of expensive clothes from middle school that there's noo way in a million years any 17 year old could fit in. Nowadays though I'm pretty much done growing so I can wear the same stuff for years until it gets too worn out. |
I usually like to shop at Hottopic. It's fairly expensive (for me because I don't have a job.) But if I can't go there I usually go to DEB it's cheaper too.
I never usually go to AE or Abercrombie or yadda blah. I don't feel like spending on clothes that don't fit and a lot of their clothes are the kind that have the name Like Abercrombie or whatever printed on it and It's not my interest to wear advertisements. Well thats my opinion. |
Meh $200 isn't all that much for a purse... I mean, if it's a good designer, you're paying for quality... I'd throw down $200 for a decent bag, but I don't pay more than like $40 if it's some random brand I don't recgonise (and it'd better be a BIG bag if I'm paying $40 hahaha). Pretty much the same for me with all clothing, just different price ranges. JEANS especially, there is a WORLD of difference between plain old jeans and premium denim. You can just see it and feel it. I shop everywhere, but recently I'm shifting from buying a bunch of cheap trendy clothes I won't like in a few months, to saving up for some quality basics that I'll be able to wear for a long time. |
The most Baja has spent on one piece of clothes is 50$ That was for my strap pants. I have 5 pairs of them though, so all together it adds up to about 250$, but that wasn't all at once. Baja just doesn't see the reason for paying hundreds for one piece of clothes, just because some person that I don't even know and will never meet's name is sewn into it.
<.< I do have some 'designer clothes, but mine are hand-me downs. lol, I amaze people by telling them I got my Timberlands for free. xD <3 |
I just went into a store, and all most started laughing at the price. $100 jeans on sale....looks exactly the same as my $30 ones. I know a girl who paid $200 for some uggs. yes uggs. I dont spend $10-$50 one shoes. Over pricing just sucks. I was going to buy a $100 dress, but ended up getting a $20 one on sale (worth about $80)
I seem to always buy things on sale... |
It depends on what it actually is though, I like Hollister and American Eagle ^^
|
LOL!!! Your title for the thread was a line in Shoes by Kelly if anyone knows who Kelly is.
|
(For the record here... I'm a girl)
I rarely like paying more than $20 USD for an item of clothing. I like to look at clearance racks. It works because I don't care if it's in season, I just buy the things that I like. |
@butterscotch: Yeah, hence why I don't understand why younger girls even try to get their hands on expensive clothes. They'll grow out of it so soon, so why even bother paying so much for something that won't last.
@`Zombie: That's most of the reason why I don't like Abercrombie, Hollister, whatever. I feel like by advertising for a specific company, I'm sorting myself into a visual category. But I guess you do that no matter what you wear. @Caroline: I don't think I'd ever spend that much on something that fulfills a basic need. I just need something to hold all the stuff I tote around, and that can be done with my current $7 purse. But if you really, really like it, then it's your money. ^_^ The other stuff, though, like jeans, I can understand. A great pair that can withstand a beating is worth the money. @Baja: It's so sad. I don't know what Timberlands are. xD @emu: When we were in NYC for a day trip, the prices were ridiculous. We went into a store that was selling bikinis. The bottoms, on sale, were almost $100. The bottoms only. O.o @Rainy: I like them, too. I just see them as very.. normal-looking, and if I'm not interested, it's not worth the money. @miss: That was intentional. ^o^ @Paranoid: Clearance racks are my friend. I was just jewelry shopping, and bought a bunch of bracelets for half the original price or more. Phew! Think I got to everyone there... |
[Shoes....shoes... Let's get some shoes!...Let's partay~]
Anyway. I totally agree; lots of stuff is overpriced. : O I go to a private school... a few of my friends are really really rich. One girl in my Religion class last year owned a private jet, and at least half our school owns bags that must have cost more than 300 dollars each. But we're not that rich, so I usually just shop for clearance or sale items, and sometimes even at thrift stores ^^ The most expensive item of clothing I ever bought was probably my 8th grade graduation dress; it was about 40 bucks. 8D |
I went to a private school up until high school. We weren't that materialistic, but I remember the Aeropostale craze. If you didn't have something from there, it was just weird.
On a side note, everyone would mispronounce the name of that store, even making it sound Italian. xD It's french, for 'air mail.' That always made me laugh a little. |
OMG o.o I don't know how's it in the USA, but in my country, the jeans you find in a mall for $40, can also be found in the jean fair of my city... for $10! You can get any cool looking shirt for $20 or less, and if it's too expensive, just look at the bay market... it could be there >o>!
Of course, it's better at the mall, but most things shouldn't be overpriced that much <o< I saw this hoodie that costed $70 or something like that. Sheesh the fabric and the color wasn't worth it xP That same hoodie could have costed $20 and the shop would still get a lot of money from it x_x Yesh, it looked that old I pitied it xD PS: ... yet, $12 shoes aren't the best ones out there x_x I recomend you to find some good fabric and overlook the price xD Of course, as long as it doesn't cost more than $150! @[email protected] |
The hoodies I buy can cost up to $50, but I can get quite some time out of them before they start to become unwearable. $20 for a shirt is about all I'll pay. There was just a buy one, get the second for 88 cents sale at a department store near me. @[email protected] I only bought two. But things like that make me actually want to shop, just so I can save money.

Yeah, I like clearance racks, and cheap stores, dollar sections, everything like that. I just like to piece things together. |
xD
Piecing things together is really fun. I just made a peasant-looking ensemble. Add some bangles, and I could be a gypsy. |
I tend to do more androgynous / punky stuff but yeah it is fun. It allows you not to be pre-packaged.
|
The last thing I bought was a cute shirt for $25. Now usually I never even buy those kind of stuff. But I was desperate to get something at the mall and that was pretty even though I find the price a bit high. ><
|
Yeah I find $25 to be pretty high for a shirt.
|
My sister buys jeans that range from $50-$150.
And they look just like the ones I get at walmart. I think it is highlarious. But she does have to buy the more expensive kind because walmart's jeans are to long on her. lol |
I don't have any clothes from Abercrombie or Hollister, but I do have one shirt from Aeropostle, it's not that great, but it was a buy one get an item under 20 dollars free, so I just got it. xD
