I think a lot of the problem is that the farther people are removed from the horror of something, the less real it seems. That's what happens because time marches ever onward. The people who lived through the horror are dying off. Our society is far different from what it was decades ago. For one thing we have a lot of violence in every aspect of media so to hear the atrocities he committed are like what we see in movies, news and games so we are desensitized to it. People have done the same to Ghengis Khan and Vlad the impaler. But in reality if we were alive when all this was going on or even worse...subjected to these men, I am sure people would view this in a very different light. Fearing for you life based on your lifestyle, religion or race isn't really as romantic as it seems.
I think for a lot of teenagers he simply represents another way to rebel against the establishment and they don't fully grasp what they are glorifying. That is something that just horrifies me. |
@Kaze-Bear-- Wasn't it Napoleon who attacked Russia during the winter? You can't tell me that TWO people made that mistake. xDD

@ Fabby - Not sure about Napoleon, but Hitler did it I'm sure... I remember because it was the mistake that probably cost him the war, because the soldiers couldn't fight as well in the cold.

Well, it depends.
If you mean people who actually like him, then I have no clue why. Neo-nazis. It's been around for a while. Before intarnetz. If you mean people who PRETEND to like him, then they're just being jackasses to get some shock laughs and need to be slapped. If you mean things like that picture of him holding the watermelon slice... that's just for lulz. People make jokes regarding shocking things all the time. Terminal diseases, national tragedies, bad people, etc. It's nothing new, and it's nothing restricted to just the internet. I mean, watch South Park. You can get pissed off over one of the "YOU HAVE AIDS!" cyanide and happiness comics, or you can see that it's not really that serious. They're not saying AIDs is a funny thing. They're just being silly. You don't have to be serious all the time. |
