gay marrige? yae or nae
I think gay's should be allowed to marry.
Marrige in most respects, is seen more as a spiritual connection between two souls and not as a document proving love for one another. So why should two people with a spiritual connection be not allowed to marry? What are your opinions? |
Yes and no...Since this gay marriage brings up so much hostility, just call it by another word and everyone's happy. ALL gays really want is equal legal rights/. So grant these same rights to the new word for gay marriage and everyone's happy.
As much as I realize gay people suffer from unfair marriage laws, I am also tired of gay marriage being a key issue that drowns out other issues. So we should make up this new word that basically means marriage so gays and everyone is happy. I personally would not care the least if we used the same word, since I feel this stupid fighting will go on and on, this is a good solution so we can get it done and move on other more pressing matters. |
Church and state are supposed to be seperate and i want to know what is so horrible about gay marriage from a non-religious view. sure some people may be put off by it on a personal level, but can anyone give me a valid non-religious reason why it should be illegal?
|
Yes, I do agree that gays should be allowed to marry. There's already a thread about this subject though (Proposition 8).
|
I dunno off hand all the unreasonable reasons why some don't want any gagy marriage. I have noticed many are simply angry about the term marriage. It's sacred to them that the term marriage mean two people of opposite gender getting together for a traditional ceromony.
Having gays getting married too changes the meaning of this term. I haven't noticed/ heard many anti gay marriage folsk says....D**M, I wish /hope gays don't get the same legal rights we have. We sure hope their children and or spouses don't receive the same legal rights we do. |
I've always stuck by my answer of 'Sure! Why not?' I mean, really.. if they wanna get married then what's the big deal? Just let them. I don't even like grouping them together like that. 'Let THEM get married.' >_> Let people get married.. regardless of their preference. :3 Why does it matter? |
Ok, I do remember another reason I was given. IF gays are allowed to get married, what's next?...people getting married to corpses?...THAT was pretty funny...
|
Actually, I've heard of a man marrying a chair [yes, your sight isn't tricking you: A chair!] so, next time: "Gays eat, sleep, breathe, love the same way you do. Department of Clinical Neuroscience at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden says so." XD
PS: Hell, I'm soo for the "people marries people" phylosophy ;) |
Er, I have several friends who are gay, and I see nothing wrong with it, I just....I don't really know. The only argument I can find against it is religious, and religion makes me uncomfortable.
I love my gay friends to bits, I just don't really..er, condone? approve? [not that they need my approval. My approval in this is meaningless.] er...Let's just say it makes me uncomfortable. Okay, *tries to get thoughts together.* I, myself, would never marry another girl. And I don't really like other people of the same sex marrying each other. But that is not for me to decide. I have no right trying to change them. I figure it is their choice, not mine. They shoudl just let them have equal rights, so they can make the decision for themselves. I may not like it, but I am also taught that we have free agency, and them saying that gays arent allowed to marry is just taking away their agency. |
I totally approve of gay marriage, I think women are slightly less condoning of it because they fear that a gay woman will try to date them or something while men are all for it because, well, they're men and some have certain ideas about us women.
I'm all for gay marriage, mostly because I have a female friend who is gay and she completely amazes me. I think people dislike the notion of gay marriage because it says it's wrong in the bible, but religion is another topic in itself. If you want to look to a woman who told the USA that gay marriage is completely righteous in itself, look at Ellen Degeneres, she took advantage of California's rights for gay men/women and got married to a beautiful Australian woman. Marriage is an eternal bond with the person you love, Marriage doesn't have to be between a man and a woman, and you don't have to go to a church to get married. ------ Well, that's my two cents. |
Yes for gay marriage.
No for churches being forced to sanction and recognize the marriages. I don't see why gay marriage just can't be seen as legal in the eyes of the law, but not the church. As daveyjoneslover said, you don't have to go to a church to get married. I'm not saying you have to believe in those religions, or even be religious. Just recognize their rights as religions to hold certain sets of beliefs. |
I'll put it this way:
In the constitutin it states that marriage is a unity between two people. so, it is their constitutional right to marry as it is not exactly gender specific. secondly, since the constitution refers to marriage as being two people, It's not very likely that they would make animalism legal, or marrying inatimate objects for that matter. third, it's like not letting a certain race get married. We put people into categories (ie:blacks, gays, whites). We think of them as a different type of people, a race almost. We don't realize this because they have widespread physical differences. Our category of gays is not based on appearance, as it is for other "races" but on their personal lifestyle, by which we shouldn't have any concern about. so, when you ask yourself "should gays be allowed to marry?" try asking "should people have their constitutional right to get married?" it's the same question. @padfootsy- we also have a little thing called freedom of religion. Churches cannot and will not be forced to marry a gay couple as it is their constitutional right to deny any act that goes against their religious beliefs. you cannot make a court case on something that is not illegal. |
I don't see why 2 normal people that love eachother can't marry.
It's legal here in the Netherlands :P |
Maybe I'll move to the Netherlands. TT______________TT
|
In Belgium it is legal too. And no one ever sued a church for not marrying a gay couple here.
|
I say
Love is Love why not? |
To refuse two consenting people the right to marriage on the grounds that they are of the same sex is to refuse common sense. There is no valid reasoning against the marrying of homosexuals. There is only the argument that it goes against certain religions, which has nothing to do with legal marriage and should therefore not have any effect on what the government says about the issue. Churches are not the only places in which marriages are performed, as marriage is not simply a religious institution. If this were so, non-religious people would not have the right to marry, either. It is foolish and selfish to claim that certain people should not be allowed to get married, especially on the grounds that some religious sects forbid it for unknown and/or unethical reasons. If members of those particular sects do not wish to perform marriages for certain people, they do not have to. This in no way means that those certain people should not be able to get married in whatever other manner they please and have all the rights and benefits that come with any marriage. Also, the idea of "civil unions" is ridiculous. If it were the same as marriage, it would have the same name. To call it something else simply because a few fanatics wish that the people involved wouldn't have that right is a breaching of the separation of Church and State.
|
There honestly is no good reason for Gay marriage to be illegal. The only reason that it's made illegal is because they don't want all the religious people to whine and complain about it, "because it's against the will of god" or some crap like that. Trust me, I know people who would complain about that stuff, great example, my pretentious, ignorant, and loath worthy grandmother is ultra religious. Which is why I am an athiest, sorry kiddies, I don't believe in god. Seriously though, that is the only reason why it is outlawed at all. I hope that in the next few generations, what with homosexuallity becoming more popular with the younger generations, it will become legal in all states.

I think they should be able to get married. I know a lot of gay people get sad because they think they'll never be able to have their wedding dreams come true. :c They're people, right? They do everything we do, they just have a different preference when it comes to significant others. ;3 Not that big of a deal~ |
I think they should be allowed to marry. I mean really, so what if they are different?, what if they like the same gender as them?, they are still human and we can't stop them from loving. And what is the harm on letting them get married?, none what so ever.
And I don't get the point on why Gay marriage is illegal. They didn't do anything wrong and wont do anything wrong either. Is it because of religious believes?, or others opinions?. I don't think religious believes and others opinion shouldn't get in the way of love. |
Nobody has a monopoly on the definition of marriage. If it's between consenting adults, it's not the business of anyone else.
No matter what rhetorical packaging it's wrapped in, the only real argument against gay marriage is religious. If we truly have a separation of Church and State, we'll let people do as they like, gay or straight. |
Gay people should be allowed all the same legal rights and privileges that strait people get when they get married. However the state shouldn't force any religious institutions to do a marriage that is against thier beliefs. Marriage is a legal contract as well as a spiritual one. Everyone should be able to get the legal benifits, I think the spiritual side of things is up to the individuals.

I definately say yay. I have been in a serious relationship with a woman now for 7 years. We despirately want to be married....but now california has replaced its bans....*sigh* maybe I'll move to massicusetts....
|
What gets me is that people are always saying the churches will be sued and that JUST isnt true. This is what the pro for prop 8 people pushed. *shakes head* Hopefully, the supreme court will over turn this one as well.
All for people getting married who LOVE each other no matter who they are. :3 |
yah, all they want is to be able to be called married. they just want the word. AND they have the RIGHT to have that word.
