I'm a female gamer. I have been ever since 6.
When I was playing ps1 and those really old consuls that I forgot what they are called right now. -_- I have my ps2, ps3, 360, DS, and I had a psp but it was lame so I sold it. I mostly like horror games, action games, some rpg, and..uhh...ionno other random stuff. Favorite series: Metal gear Resident evil Silent hill OLD tomb raider games Fatal frame Older Final fantasy games Tekken Street fighter and uhh...I'm sure more. Can't think right now. Current fav game: Fallout3. <33 |
I am a computer gamer, though for times sake I tend to stick to one game or another. WoW is my current game, I will sometimes play Starcraft, UT, Diablo or other LAN type games with my friends but we have a hard time getting together. To the point where we haven't actuly gotten a group up for a year now. We used to be every week and during that time, out of 20 in my usual LAN group only 3 of us were fem and I was the only one to be there at most of the events. I was also the only one who started gaming for the fun of it not because I was dating one of the others.
I also play WoW TCG, again I only play the one game but that's a financial thing. It costs allot of money to keep up with a TCG and I can not afford more of them. Of that group I am one of 4 girls that show up with any regularity. But we are treated with the same amount of respect as the guys. If a guy tries to disrespect us in my 'league' he is asked to leave. The judges will not have any of that behaver. They are even helping me to study for my judges test. Though I have had guys dismiss me out of hand in the Magic circles. When that happed I usually riped their deck apart. My brother helped me build an uber deck. {hey he had the money for the cards I didn't at the time.} And I played it well. Some of my friends were know to say, "Oh he's gonna be so dead." When some guy made the comment "Girls can't play Magic." My brother was fond of saying, "My older sister is the stronger one, but this one is the vicious one." I used to boffer and LARP but my shoulders can not stand up to the strain of it any more. (I was in a car accident that messed up my shoulders.) My boffer group went out of their way not to disrespect me. {Of Course most of them knew that I could castrate, so there may have been some consideration of that aspect.} That and when I went to an event with them some guy made a comment about killing the mere girl. That guy did not live more than a minuet after each of his resurrections. There were fifteen girls there but I killed him 12 times. All the girls at that event were gunning for him and his buddies. As far as guys in a store go yeah the hot chicks that know nothing (even though some hot chicks also know thier games) really do hurt the perception men have about girl gamers. So do the girls that play because their boyfriends want them to. {though I will admit I have gotten guys to run me through instances by saying "Yes I'm a girl will you help me?" but frankly I figure that's taking advantage of their stupidity and got me lots of cool gear and gold. Heck even my guy friends will say that on occasion taking advantage of the idiots.} However I always feel like screaming when I see a pst asking "R U a REAL Girl?" Never when I'm on my male toon am I asked "R U a REAL Boy?" Though I have had girls simper at me to get me to take them through instances. The never seem to realize why this doesn't work on me. Even though I never ask the are you a real ___ question. I stink at makeup, my jewelry box consists of costume pieces,(things I wear when costuming) my hair while long is usually in a braid or pony tail, and I wouldn't know fashion if it bit me in the ass. I know completely strait guys that are masters with makeup, own twice the jewelry, can stile my hair in some really fantastic dos, and want to take me shopping to get me in fashion. And if they weren't taken already I would have married one of them in a heart beat. But their significant others (wives fiancées and girlfriends) are also my friends and fellow geek girls. (and some of them could probably trounce me with one hand behind their backs.) |
I'm a girl gamer, and mostly play rpgs/mmorpgs. When I was really young I played mario& other games all the time on my nintendo and deamcast. Currently I'm playing Dragoon's Aria on the PSP, and I have played A LOT of rpgs on my PS2. My favorite was Chrono Trigger & it's sequel Chrono Cross : ) Those are classic. And I used to play Ragnorak Online/MapleStory/bizillion other mmorpgs online. I don't have time right now though ; ___ ;
My friends always though it was cool that I was into gaming, though they were pretty into gaming too [ We would read the gaming magazines together > . o ] I guess though my more [ well-known? popular? ] friends made fun of me, but I didn't care. You should do what you enjoy. Besides, video games > drugs. It saddens me though that that stereotype is taking more serious than I thought. I guess there will always be a precentage that will always believe boys are better than girls at gaming, but I hope it will lessen in the future : ] Or at least die off? [ Boo sexisim. ] Females are expected to be females. That is all. |
Oh, Good thread.
I have a few friends that are female gamers, not as many as male though. However one of them is a complete beast at Soul caliber. Kicked my ass every time. |
I am totally a chick gamer. =3 I still remember playing Key's Quest. >_> Bonus points to you if you actually remember the game. I used to play the jebus outta mario bros and Zelda. Ah, zelda. Link has totally come a far way. I mean, I *still* remember the first Prince of Persia. >_> Side scrolling 8bit graphics, yo. I never did figure out how to jump properly without impaling myself upon the spikes. I'm also a fan of the Final Fantasy. FF7 will always have a special place in my heart. ._. 7 1/5 hours and no memory card with NO deaths. Until the top o the shinra tower. -_- 'would you like to unequipe your materia?' "Sure! I don't remember what it is anyway! =3=3"
<.< Pulled the same thing for 8, but that battle I survived with single digit hp. And also? Girls like violent games just as much as the next gamer. I mean, seriously. Tell the truth. How many of you have play'd GTA just to get the ambulance to pull up and off the drivers just to watch another pull up. Be honest now. >_> I do like having a fiance that enjoys games too. Specially since he has the ps3. *_* the gundam dynasty game and army of two. Much love. Hee. Just don't fire off a grenade in a small room. The results aren't pretty. >.> And I admit, I play sims2. But that lil icon is right next to WoW. ^^ Course WoW gets more action. Heh. |

I always thought FF games were (at least initially) aimed at guys, since the protagonist is usually male, and any girls in the game are generally dressed in revealing outfits and have big boobs.
I've played most kinds of games: Final Fantasy, Doom, Wolfenstein, Tomb Raider, Fable, Resident Evil, Hack, Civilization, Sims, etc. I don't really consider myself a "gamer," though. I think guys are put off whenever women are better at things that are "manly" like fighting, cars, building things. That might have been expected fifty or sixty years ago, but now it's just stupid. |
Gamer? possibly, I love to play basically anything action, but my parents are the super hardcore "you must study, no games!" type of people. I play MMORPG's when I download them, and video games when I'm at over at a friends. Though I do have a funny story:
So I'm a member of the air cadets from where I live, and I'm in the band. We were taking a break and I'm the only girl there out of around 5 people. So we're talking, and it suddenly turns to the topic of gaming. They were going on about games they played (this was around the time when the new GTA came out), and I joined in on the conversation. After I finished, there was a stunned silence and stared at me for a full 10 seconds. One of the corporals (I was a sergeant at the time) said shocked, "You play video games?" I don't think I ever laughed so hard in my life. |
I'm a gamer. Fighting games and Rpgs mostly. I cant honestly classify myself as a girl gamer or a guy gamer but i am nonetheless a gamer. I am good at almost anything i play, and i am never surprised to meet actual gamer girls. My best friend is marrying a gamer girl. She refuses to turn the system off until she goes to bed. Paused for hours while she goes to work or runs errands. I beat her in the games, but she has logged more hours than me and her fiance combined!
