Um, excuse me? You're the one who got all offended because I questioned the validity of your story. And I'm sorry I get upset when people talk down to and insult me. But I've been fairly calm, all things considered.
And I'll "cuss" if I please, quite frankly. I've said two or three curse words the entire time, so it's not like I'm being obscene or anything. |
I think that everyone needs to calm down a bit.
The Debate forum is for civil conversations. Discussions here are not meant to become personal attacks. If you guys can feel yourselves getting upset over this content, it may be time to take a break from the thread. |

PETA is ridiculous, they are complete idiots! did anybody see the thread about "sea kittens"? PETA wanted to rename fish sea kittens so people would be less likely to eat them. i bust out laughing when i read that. Sea kittens! i want to go vegetarian, but i lke meat. its healthier and animals dont die. but i dunno. Quote:
and nobody was "talking down" to you or anything of the sort. they were simply stating their opinions, you're the one lashing out at them. this is supposed to be a civilised conversation, a debate, not an argument. |
Philomel If you feel I've lashed out at you, I'm sorry. I've tried to provide facts, statistics and evidence of my claims, and stated my own opinion, but I can understand if you feel that some of those opinions where downgrading to you. I never meant them to be that way.
I would like to say, however, I haven't really received more then your opinion on the matter, and very little in the way of facts of any kind. I would be totally willing to debate this issue if you could provide those. We can continue whenever you're ready. I'll try, as I have been, to be a civil and calm as I can, but this is only text, and your interpretation of my words isn't under my control. If you see them as inflammatory or abusive, say so and I'll be happy to apologize. In that respect, I ended my argument so as not to belittle you with ongoing preaching and meaningless banter, out of respect for the debate in general and those I am debating with. Namely you. We can pick up whenever you like. But please, have the same respect for my views as I've tried to have for yours. |
Just...forget this. I'm tired of arguing about whether or not I should trust what someone over the internet says. Just please know, MollyJean, that it isn't anything personal. I would question anyone's story that I found unlikely, especially when it's used to prove a point.
I'm conceding the argument. Have at it. |
It shouldn't be personal, and we shouldn't really have anything to argue about. Neither one of us like PETA. We could leave it at that and be friends, right?

@Claudia: I don't see it as shielding the kid from the world, but rather not throwing the whole world on him/her; informing the kid in a sensible way. I understand telling them that animals are killed by x, y, and z methods, and their bodies are made of meat which we eat regularly. But telling them that their mother is a serial killer for cooking chicken for his kid, seriously? We don't tell our kids that sex is putting a penis in a vagina so the girl gets pregnant and the man runs away until she sues him for child support. Instead, we're always looking for discreet, unbiased and complete ways of telling your kids how the world works.
--- @Philomel: So terrorism inherently involves violence? Then, how about that time they threw a pack of flour at Lindsay Lohan for wearing fur? Hey, their website claims so, so it must be true :o |

i did like one person's comment on it though. all he said was: Quote:

My favorite animal rights group is the ALF (Animal Liberation Front). I am not a vegetarian though, I just oppose cruelty to animals.
|
ALF? and i suppose they aren't morons like PETA?

ECO-TERROR INDICTMENTS Animal rights militant admits bomb offences The same man was convicted and jailed for 12 years And this from the FBI website. Quote:
Also, both ALF and ELF are actively on the FBI's Terrorism Watchlist. |
The FBI are one of the most notorious and vile terrorists groups in the world.
They have used torture, fear, and violence to support a nation which has killed hundreds of thousands of humans for the sake of money. The ALF has yet to kill a human being, although I would not hold i against them for killing one heinous animal to save an innocent one. |
I'm trying really.. really hard not to laugh. And failing.

oh do tell, because I would like to know what evidence supports your theory.

@slickie: I think he means the government is against us, the FBI killed Kennedy, the CIA got Roosevelt and replaced him with a clone and 9/11 was engineered by the secret organization know as S.H.I.E.L.D.
Oh yeah, and Elvis isn't dead, he just ran away with Big Foot and made babies. Britney Spears is the proof! Sorry, Feral Fantom, I dun do conspiracy theories. |

Honestly, PETA sounded like an amazing organization when I first heard of it, however you don't have to do much research on them to realize they're not at all what they say they are.
They play very strongly on emotions, making people feel tremendously guilty for all the things that they have no control over. What can the average person do to stop animal cruelty? Most people aren't willing or simply can't put the time and effort into volunteering to help, and boycotting only goes so far. The only option left really is to donate to a cause and hope that someone else can take care of the job. On top of that, PETA has made several over the top statments that are just plain ridiculous, even for an extremist group. However, these statements get them in the papers, get their name out there, and get people interested in their group. It's like free advertising. Sure it'll make people roll their eyes, but it'll also pull in plenty more donations from people who think it's a righteous cause. Now I myself have no idea where PETAs money goes to, and how much of it actually goes towards the organization, and how much just gets files under misc/salary expenses. Also, to the vegetarian topic. Personally I have no problem with them so long as they don't freak out and give me a lecture if I try to eat it. I myself rarely eat any meats, not because I don't like it, but because I can't afford it T-T EDIT: @>@ shoot, I thought there were only 4 pages of comments, I guess I'm jumped in a page later than I meant >.>; |
I do know some of their money must certainly go to the people who do the job of euthanizing pets instead of giving them a better life, or finding a good, willing adopter.
|
And the rest goes to buying bridges and sewage treatment plants!!
PETA seals offer to pay for sewage plant PETA would bridge Friendship barriers with a catch. Sea kittens Oh, yeah, and state parks! Sorry, PETA, no Sea Kitten State Park It looks to me like they just stockpile the money til something big pops up that they can buy o.o |
XD...omg, im sorry but did that say "sea kitten state park"? XD XD they're still on this?! sea kittens?! oh come on! what the fuck, they just dont give up, do they?
and a bridge too??? yeesh, come on PETA! we are not going for sea kittens! |
Not to mention they tried to convince the city of Hamburg to change their name into Veggieburg, offering... 2 thousand veggieburgers.
Though, I could be wrong on the amount of veggieburgers offered. |
