"godhatesretards"? "godhatesgoths"? Seriously, I think it's a joke. But then again, I thought God Hates Fags was a joke when I first saw it.

Then I realized, wait, no.

No, people are just dumb.

Son Zack 10-12-2009 04:25 AM

Wow, that's really icky. Even for satire, which is what it seems to be. I know there are people out there with opinions very close to that and that sort of makes me embarrassed to be human.

I have to admit, mentally handicapped people tend to make me really, really uncomfortable. But that does NOT mean I don't believe they should be helped or supported. I think they should be well cared for so that they could live the best lives possible. There are really loving people out there who give their lives to handicapped people and I respect the hecks out of that.

I do believe they are people, very much so.

However...

WARNING: PERSONAL OPINION AHEAD.

If I was pregnant and learned through an amniotic fluid test that my baby was going to be born retarded, I would have he or she aborted. Why? Because I would want the same done for me. I would want a new chance at life, inhibited by a malfunctioning brain or body so that I could have the same opportunities, chances, and experiences that anyone else could have.

I don't believe the mentally or physically handicapped individuals of our society should be euthanized, I don't believe that at all. I think we should work harder at finding how to prevent retardation, maybe even cure it. Until then, we should do our best to make life comfortable for the people afflicted.

It also says that they aren't human anyways, that they are demon spawn. This website was created by a Christian, which sickens me ever more, since I'm Christian.
I just can't understand why anyone would think this.

So what are your veiws on retarded people or people with mental disabilities?
Are they people?
Should they be allowed in society or made into slaves/pets?
What about the people who take care of them?

I personally think that they are no less human than you or I. I know a man who is retarded. His name is Jimmy. I've been friends with his family for years now. Jimmy is by no means a "demon spawn" and he isn't a pet or a slave. He is a part of that family, and is treated like it. The whole church loves him and treats him a member of the church. I see no reason why Jimmy, or any other handicapped person, should be treated any differently. Maybe treated with more care, but not of less value.

Here's the link http://www.godhatesgoths.com/godhatesretards.html

First of all, you should question if this website is actually Christian. The website itself is called God Hates Goths. I'm a Christian as well and I need to say God does not hate any sort of person(s). If He hated a group of people or a person, don't you think He wouldn't have created them in the first place? Judgemental Christians I will admit also can be some of the most sickening people. Christians who judge you by what you wear, what you've done, what your sexual orientation is, and think you are not able to be saved by the Creator. It sickens me to see Christians doing this, because God is a loving God, and we are too represent Him. If we do not love, how can we expect others to think God is love too? You may say, "Yes, He is a God of love, but He's also a God of judgement!" Yes, God does judge, but He judges justly. He will judge those who have condemned the sinner instead of condemning the sin will be judged by God quite harshly I believe. Jesus did say after all that out of all the commandments, the first most important one is to love God with all your mind, soul, and strength. Then Jesus goes on to say that the second greatest commandment is to love others, and by others He doesn't mean just people we like, He's including people we don't like, He's including our enemies we are too love. With all of this being said, I question very much if this website really is a Christian one because hate should not be in our vocabulary. I'm not going to judge their heart because that is not my place, but by this person's fruits I don't see Christ's love and beauty.

Now, as for the whole mentally disabled people, I have something many would consider as a disability. I have Asperger's Syndrome, which is a mild form of Autism. My boyfriend has Asperger's as well. We don't think of ourselves as being "disabled," but rather we see the world differently. It was not too long ago on http://www.theologyweb.com there was a posting of a video of this man who had speech impairment singing Amazing Grace at his church, and the person who posted this video was making fun of the poor guy. Some people seem to find making fun of those who have some sort of disability fun. I thought it was beautiful to see that guy worshiping and praising God despite his speech impairment. Despite his obstacles, he still praised God, and to me, that's more beautiful than to see one who is "normal" and not praising God. A lot of people seem to think us mentally "disabled" are not human. Whether they are high-functioning or not does not make them any less human. What makes a person less human is to put down those who may be weaker in some areas than others. Can we be odd? Of course! But isn't there good in odd too? If we were all so-called "normal," life wouldn't be interesting now would it? Some people have said people who are mentally disabled cannot feel romance, especially with those on the Autism Spectrum Disorder. I can proudly say this is NOT true! I have dated many times, and none of them did I have more romance than, no, not even close to as much romance as the one I am in right now, and like I said, we both have Asperger's! We're both on the Autism Spectrum Disorder! But like I said earlier by the hatred in this website, I seriously question where this person's heart truly is.

laniparis 10-21-2009 01:38 PM

If that website is legit (as in not photoshopped/or faked) then it should be pulled down immediately, freedom of speech is one thing, but what about people with disabilities that can't speak, do they not deserve to say this is wrong???

They are humans, in some ways more so than people who create such websites...

How cruel this world can be???

Lady_Megami 10-21-2009 11:30 PM

My husband, his cousin is mentally challenged. She has the mind set of a toddler, can't talk or even communicate very well. I personally believe it is due to his Aunt's alcohol consumption while she was pregnant; but really we never know these things.
I have a second cousin who's doctors told his mom that he would never have a mind set of a child over seven or eight. She home schooled the boy and spent every second of the day helping him learn and grow. He now holds a job and even drives himself. My cousin even has a girlfriend, surpassing all the doctor's dreams of him. Was it the care of his mother or where the doctors wrong?
Mentally challenged people are humans, calling them retards is an ignorant term. The literal meaning of the word is: "To be held back". So a mentally challenged person is not held back from anything. Just because there minds are not properly developed doesn't mean that they are held back from anything.
If anything, children who fail a grade in school should be called retarded. :sarcasm:

So what are your veiws on retarded people or people with mental disabilities?
Well, for one, retardation is common. They range from being slow to deformed. Would you not agree that someone is retarded in a job field they are just starting in? Anywho, the questions below will go more in depth into my feelings on people with disabilities and retardation.

Quote:

Are they people?
Well, they look like 'people.' They have the same functionality as 'people.' So, I am going to go with Yes for 500 bob!
Seriously, what kind of question is that.

Quote:

Should they be allowed in society or made into slaves/pets?
By "Slaves/Pets" do you mean walked around with a harness and leash on them? You know, like some parents have for their severely autistic children so they do not run away from them in public places. Well, they could always give in to the embarrassment that society pushes on them by not taking them out with them. I mean why would society want to see a poor 7 year old child on a harness and leash, that is so demoralizing. They must be horrible parents who cannot control their severely autistic child. Well, let me clarify something on that matter, since I have been asked this before, at a public mall for that matter. Those autistic children are part of the family. They are loved just like any other family member. It is not to turn them into a 'slave/pet' it is to simply control them and still be able to enjoy time with the whole family.
Should they be made into pets? Should I kill you now or fucking slit your throat later? Cause slavery isnt a joke. Turning your own kind into a pet is disgraceful.

Quote:

What about the people who take care of them?
I have taken care of my nephews, one of which whom was 11 and is severely autistic, while my sister and brother-in-law were on their wedding anniversary. That was a very hard job taking care of 2 regular hyperactive kids on top of taking care of the autistic one. But you know what. So is life. When life gets rough you stick to it. Don't bitch out. It took my sister 8 years to finally cope with the judgmental fuck-tards who want to sit there with no experience at all in the job she does as a mother. Yet, all these people who have never dealt with mental disabilities on a regular basis do not know what the fuck it is like. How the hell can any of them honestly say what the best solution would be.

Doomfishy 10-23-2009 07:30 PM

The site is satire, presumably parodying Fred Phelps' GodHatesFags.com. There's even a full disclaimer here.

||Rawr~Suppie|| 10-24-2009 08:38 AM

Oh My God...That made me physically ill and tear up. I don't even know what to say...Even if it was fake, that's really messed up.

Amicus 10-24-2009 11:27 AM

Okay... A few thoughts... Looking at the front page I was heavily offended... XD

Though..as I moved on to the actual article about the retarded..I scrolled through the little list about "secret retards"... XD I can't stop laughing. So this person is basically saying that anyone who is imperfect is a retard and an abomination before God? XDD Sheesh, it's exactly those kinds of people that turned me away from that religion.

My uncle is mentally disabled to an extent and we're fairly sure he has Autism now. XD But he's in no way not a person or not equal to a person. Yeah, he's a bit weird... But he's still one of the coolest people I've ever met.

The Cheshire Cat 10-25-2009 01:28 AM

That was horrible, but I have a feeling it was created by a person who wanted to make Christianity look bad. No where in the bible does it say those things! Who ever posted that, if they really are a Christian needs to reevaluate their beliefs! As for the picture of the church saying those things about the mentally ill, it was probably photo shopped.

We need to try and think clearly. This could all be a sick joke. If it isn't, they aren't truly Christian. That site was disgusting.

Doomfishy 10-25-2009 03:32 AM

It is "a sick joke." Yet another example of Poe's Law.

Last time I checked, a lot of Goths were very devout Christians.
I don't recall goths shooting up stores...
People in the occult are who are into vampirism may be goth too.
You cannot judge an entire group by the acts of some.
That website is BS. Anyone who follows it and THAT God are terrible people.

zombie_pirate 10-28-2009 01:01 AM

well i just read the whole site and it is in most part entirely satirical....for the slow ones the whole site is fake...rev rg is a fake rev made up from the minds of people making fun of intolerance of some Christians...if you read the disclaimer it tells you its fake...just thought i would tell you so people dont get as offended....none of it is real...no is that intolerant so yeah http://www.godhatesgoths.com/disclaimer.html ...there you go ^^

OH OH OH I see.

Then I feel better. I was too vgjskdfjggo about the site to read the whole thing.

Belias 10-28-2009 01:59 AM

Going a bit off-topic here, but I really hate the word 'retard'. It's really offensive.

Though the site may be satire, it does raise points on what actually happens in real life (sometimes by Christians, sometimes not...). My brother is intellectually disabled, and i've had people cover their nose and mouths around him - as if they could catch it. I've had people ask me how I could be around him, and people who ask my mother questions such as 'why didn't you abort (him)?'

People treat other people with disabilities as if they were less than other people, and they're not. I just hate that whole attitude.

Uh... sorry for the rant. This is just something I (obviously) feel very strongly about.

hirokotan 10-28-2009 09:18 PM

Belias: I understand why you would find the word 'retard' offensive, but it's only because of how the word has been used in the past. The word started out being an actual diagnosis, not an insult. The word 'retard' itself means 'to be delayed'.

And that's exactly what the problem is. The mind of a 'retarded' person moves at a slower rate than a 'normal' person.

Heck, some advocacy associations for such people are even called "______ Association for the Retarded". For example, California Association for the Retarded.

Leenalia 10-31-2009 05:48 AM

I don't like the term "retard" either unless it was used to describe a medical condition.

Back in elementary school I was beaten and abused because people thought that my disabilities -hearing and visual impairment- meant that I was "mentally retarded".

It didn't help my case when I won awards or proved that I get average grades like they did, they just automatically assumed that because I was one of three kids in the entire school who had to wear hearing aids, that I was very slow and stupid.

It's not only elementary school. Recently I went for a job interview that I was sure to get because my friend vouched for me, but I was shot down. On that day, one of my hearing aids was giving me problems so I only had hearing on my left ear, although I didn't know the reason why I was shot down, the woman who interviewed me gave me the expression as if to say, "wow -- you couldn't hear me after I made it perfectly clear...either you aren't listening or you aren't interested in the job."

She seemed extremely annoyed at me, and it did make me more nervous during the interview because this was the first time I came across such attitude in a long time, and no, the woman didn't know I was hearing impaired because I wore my hair down to look professional. Later on, she found out though but that didn't help my case.

The point I'm trying to make, is that people even with slight disabilities get discriminated against daily. No matter if it's from a facial expression of disgust, or a severe discrimination like getting assaulted, we deal with it everyday and most of the time it's because of ignorance.

Not everyone's perfect, and frankly....99% of the world's population will become disabled in some shape or form when they grow old. Why do people have to be cruel like that? That's what I do not get.

Jeanie 10-31-2009 09:44 AM

I did a module at university which was about inclusion. Retard was in the unacceptable terms list. We don't refer to people with difficulties as retards any more. As far as I'm aware its generally American things which think this is still an acceptable term for these people.

moonkittie 11-01-2009 01:50 AM

Personally, I hate the word retard. Also, the fact that they're demon spawn... ah... leave it to a church to come up with that. I think they are people, humans, and deserve to be treated like anyone else. I've met some very special mentally handicapped people and I think the world is better with them in it.
Also, not all Americans think it's acceptable to use that term. Just the inconsiderate.

Hollowsan 11-01-2009 02:52 AM

All I read was the first three paragraphs and instantly close the window. What kind of religious bastards are they to talk about the mentally-challenged?!Besides,most people end up like that because of different things that happen to them in life or it is somehow genetic. It's not cool to say "Let's not treat retards like humans."If your not going to treat them as what they are (human) then what are you going to treat them as?

moonkittie 11-01-2009 03:07 AM

I totally agree Hollowsan! Humans are humans. Being mentally handicapped does not make them any less human!

pinkii 11-03-2009 09:52 PM

The term "retard" is politically incorrect.
We tend to use "mentally challenged" instead.

As for the website, (I'm sure that this was said before), but I'm pretty sure it was created from a member of that horrid Westboro Baptist Church. I wouldn't advise going to any of their other websites, since it made me lose a bit of my faith in humanity, but their "preachings" are NOT Christian in ANY way.

Christians, especially Baptists, are not twisted, despicable people. They are very loving and accepting.
These Westboro idiots are NOT doing God's will. They're just a bunch of media hungry attention seekers, who all want money and recognition.
I also love the fact that they hate all races and religious types, especially the Jewish, when Jesus himself was Jewish.
And the fact that they warp every bible verse into hate just sickens me.
