The Mosque at Ground Zero.

In New York, there are Muslims who want to build a Mosque. Which would be perfectly fine, but the location for it is very near Ground Zero.

(in case you don't know, a Mosque is a church building for Muslims, and Ground Zero is the area where the Twin Towers were destroyed in 9/11.)

Some people are very against this, thinking it is a symbol of Victory on the destruction of the Twin Towers.

Others think it is simply an expression of religion, and that they have a right to build it.

Opinions? Are you for or against Park51? Why?

(I haven't formed an opinion yet; I need to look into it more, I just learned about it yesterday. I'll let you know when I have decided.)

Personally, I see nothing wrong with building that religious building in Ground Zero. Besides freedom of speech and religion, the place is private property, they can do whatever they want to there. Now, is it a smart idea? I think not. The harassment that those people are going to have to endure will be crazy, something I would not want to deal with.

Recently a member of the republican party stated "Well yes, I know under constitutional right they have the innate ability to build such a structure... we just don't want them to use their rights".

What?! What nonsense is that?

And just for the public to know, there is much more at Ground Zero than a pile of rubble. Porn shops, an x rated movie theater, dealers, prostitutes, pretty much anything is there. I understand why people are upset (or, well their supposed "reasoning") but really people? That isn't a place of saints.

Should it be okay for them to build whatever they want there? Yes, it's in their rights, let them have it. A smart idea? I don't believe so.

To be accurate, They want to build a community center but with like 1-2 levels for praying.
Actually, where the Muslims want to build it at is about 4 blocks away and you can't see ground zero out of it, but
not even a block away there is Muslim Mosque I think that is in sight of ground zero and has coexist for a long time even before the trade centers.

Pople shouldn't be so angry about it. The Muslims have every right under the Constitution and first amendment, so there free to do it.

There's actually an established thread for this topic already, so feel free to head on over and post there: http://www.menewsha.com/forum/commun...ny-mosque.html

I'll go ahead and lock this up since it's a duplicate topic.
