In a town a few miles North of where I live. There is a do not enter sign on a road that is used as an exit to a strip mall. I've seen people ignore the sign just to get to the liquor store at the same end as the exit. I can't wait till someone gets hit.I always wanted to see a Honda Accordian. In my town's local Wal-Mart I see people entering through the exit. While pushing a shopping cart I remember almost running over this lady wearing a shirt with Arkansas Razorbacks that entered through the exit while I was leaving through the same door.

Are those laws though? or rules specific to the supermarket/school or whatever? Because with the hat rule, it makes sense to allow religious tolerance, assuming that it was a School specific rule. As for the in through the exit thing, that happens all the time, in fact one of the supermarkets in my town closes the entry door after 7pm or something to make it easier to monitor.

The do not enter sign is a law since the sign was put up by the city. The Wal-Marts has the enter door right beside the Exit. As for the school tolerance is good thing but if you allow one group to wear hats they should allow the other students to wear hats during class.

It's stupid for them not to follow those law. It's all still consider as a city law/mall law/whatever. But it is still law. Still rules. Rules that have to be followed to maintain orderliness in the place. To avoid accidents it is better to follow them, but for the Wal-mart part, it would be considerable like Stardragon said the entrance is beside the exit so it is quite confusing, especially when you are in a hurry or whatever. Though if this is intentionally done then there is no exception but to report them. They *might* get in trouble. But still in my opinion just let it be first and when you see someone going in the exit door just tell them it's the entrance door, so at least in the future they would know.

It is okay for a school to have restrictions, it's a school after all, rules are a part of learning and teaching discipline so as much as I don't like it. Not following rules can get you expelled. But it is unfair, like said crazeebear if, for example, the school is divided into two parts, but inside of one school. This one part has the students with high grades and good reputation. The other part has students with not-so-high grades and not-so-good reputation. The school principal favours the side with a high grades and good reputation so allows them to wear whatever they want to school. Then the one with a lower grades and lower reputation asks why and the principal simply either shrugs it off or tell them that they do not deserve it. This one is a bad example to students and not a good rule. You might as well leave the school. A school, no matter how much divided, even if divided into let's say, 100 buildings, it is still ONE school and only ONE school. Not 100 schools, just ONE. So they all need to have the same rights, so having different rules would be like having different schools, so might as well make 100 schools if be like that.

O..kay.. I think the school part is out of topic, but I am just trying to explain further what crazeebear says and my opinion about it. Then the Wal-mart part is well..understandeable. xD

Ha. Sounds like my town. People here will do anything to cut ends. Because there are so many people in this town, everyone tries to find the shortest way home, and usually by illegal means. There's one road in my town that has only one way in, one way out. And more then 50% of the town's population lives on this street. Traffic in the morning, from 6:00am - 9:30am is really bad. Bumper to bumper traffic and constant slow movement, because you have workers leaving for work, students leaving for school, and so on. There's really no easy way to take short cuts, but from 2:00pm - 7:00p, everyone's going home from work, school, and such. There are multiple ways to get around waiting two hours in bumper to bumper traffic, and some of them aren't legal.

One road, which was built to relieve this traffic [But in fact made it worse] has this dirt patch that cuts right through more than half of said traffic road, and I see so many cars trying to cut through there, even though it's private property, that sometimes they get stuck. It's hilarious. It's actually a law in my town to not take illegal short cuts.

Sure, when I was in school, I had to sit in this traffic everyday. I was fine with it. But towards the end of the school year, I was like "Screw it" and took a short cut, a legal one at that. Sure it pissed people off, but hey, I got home quicker and saved some gas, too.

Now they're widening the roads so hopefully the problem dies down. Of course I no longer live on said road, and half of the other people of my class went off to college or moved away, that they were angry that the town decided to do this now instead of earlier, back when the problem really got out of hand.

My town is not smart.

And there are some really ridiculous laws out there. My favorite is "Do not stick your finger in another one's belly button for more than 15 seconds. It counts as legal rape." Oh boy to I like this law. I do it all the time with friends because I've told them about this law, and they're like "WHEEE". xD Then there's another, in Europe, where anyone can have sex with an animal as long as it's the opposite gender. Wtf? Bestiality? Really?

My friend put these laws very simply: "There are stupid laws, because there are stupid people doing something stupid for said stupid law to be put up."

 I like that quote.
It's pretty true, too.

I do think though, that stupid laws can be ignored (that is if no police office who gives a fuck is watching), but simple though reasonable laws should be followed. :3
Such as "No illegal shortcuts." That was law probably in part made because people kept getting their cars stuck or there were a lot of accidents. :P

Not all laws should be enforced, no matter how small...

Let me say this, the law of the do not enter, yes, they need to have a cop out there handing out tickets for a week, if it is that serious to the State or city they live in. It should be enforced if in is an issue.

The reason I say not all laws, no matter how small, should always be enforced is because for some reason we have laws still in the book that make no sense!! Now mind you in order to get it changed they have to get congress to approve it and that is what amendments are for. Did you know that in the city of Cheyenne, Wyoming (where I used to live) that on Sunday it is legal for you to take your wife to the capitol steps and beat your wife? In Jackson, Tennessee (where I was raised) you are suppose to have a lantern in front of all carriages that are not drawn by horses, example, a car. Luckily it comes with it's on lights ha ha.

Laws are in place for a reason, to keep us safe, to keep our rights safe, to have us treated like human beings. Those who don't follow the laws that are in place with good reason will find it will catch up with them one day. Though some laws, minor ones and old ones are no longer needed or simply are not given time because there are other things that deserve more attention.

If the people in charge of enforcing that rule have the resources needed to do so, (resources include time, necessity and effort) then yes.

If it's simply the matter of a sign stating a rule like 'do not enter', they probably would if it was a genuine problem. otherwise the people breaking the rules will face other consequences, such as getting hit, and that will have to be enforcement enough. If someone gets hit when entering something with a 'do not enter' sign, chances are their insurance will not pay for it- so that will come out of their pocketbooks- which is the best place to hurt certain people.

So it depends on the situation. The regular police have better things to be doing, taking down threats to immediate public safety, preventing future threats to public safety, ect...

A better solution would be to have a motion-censor camera there to photograph the cars that pass the sign, anyone who enters when they shouldn't will have their plates photographed, the photo is sent to whoever deals with traffic violations, and the owner of the car is sent a fine in the mail.

I have to say yes and no to this one. There are some old laws that have not been taken off the ballet that could effect you in a negative way. In my town the crew-few law is still in session, it states that anyone under the age of 18 must be home and indoors by 9PM, yet there are teens who work until 11. So they would get punished because they are working. Then there are things like your sign problem. At my school people go through the entrance to exit the school and people have gotten into accidents because of that (myself included) so, in truth I think it really depends on the law in question.
