You guys hit on everything except for one thing the Sun is 10-20% brighter than it was at the time of the First Fish swam in the Oceans.

Star: You're right actually, and it adds to the water vapor in the air, which is a much stronger greenhouse gas than CO2 could ever be.
AS for the 2012 thing mentioned earlier, if you actually study the Mayans and Aztecs, and you know about their religion, you know that 2012 is not ever supposed to be the end of the world. It's supposedly the beginning of a golden age for mankind that will last for a thousand years. Not sure I believe that either, but still. |
Sarofset and Star: Along with the sun producing more water vapor I want to touch back on the ideas jet emissions causing greenhouse gasses. I don't think it has been brought up yet, but I would like to nip it in the bud before it erroneously does. No amount of jet fuel being burned by all of the world's fleets is going to do a dime worth of harm to the current status of the atmosphere. The burning of the fuel produces three main by-products. NOx CO2 and Water vapor. CO2 sinks and disperses into lower levels of the atmosphere where it is absorbed by carbon fixing organisms

The main culprit in the greenhouse gas emission of airliners is Water Vapor, which is a by product of burning anything at that great of a height, the air being significantly cooler than the engines water molecules condense and form cirrus and strato-cirrus clouds which reflect heat and particulates trying to return to space back at Earth. This feeds into the Greenhouse effect. Sp it's actually the production of water vapor and high altitude clouds that causes any warming effect and not the fuel it self. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environ...ct_of_aviation http://www.themikehyde.com/WaterToys/NavRulesCheats.htm |
I do so love when people bring actual science into things like this, and don't just say they're right because they say so. :) Thanks guys.

Global warming is getting people rich. Golbal warming is natural. Global warming isn't that big of a deal.

That's sarcasm, by the way. |
yes... the petroleum industry which functions on efficiency is completely wasteful. that makes complete sense.

Al gore was the one advertising people to start going more green, and now he lives in a huge mansion, and I believe i read that his house consumes more energy then like 10 houses or something stupid like that. Retarded.

It's only two times as much as the average family uses. And frankly, with a larger house than the average family, and considering the area he lives in, that's not surprising. His energy usage is much more comparable to others around there. Plus, he pays a premium on his energy bill to obtain it from "greener" sources. I do agree that it's 'hypocritical', and he deserves a knock to the head--he should be the greenest of them all, but, exaggeration and defamation of a single person doesn't really help your point, especially when you're wrong. o_O I'd also like to point out, at his core, he is a politician. Politicians tend to have lots of money...for doing absolutely nothing but making laws to help them. You want a better world? Eliminate career politicians. We'll become green lickety-split AND our civil rights will be enhanced because we are not under the golden thumb of the rich, who like to make pointless tax breaks for themselves. ;) |
I believe in a flat sales tax on everything we buy. That way everyone pays the same and those who are obsessed with acquiring things will have to pay more. Those of us who are not, will pay less. And efficiency will become more important to people, which reduces waste, and causes better technologies to be produced. :)
