Im getting kinda worried that there are too many girls in the world, either that or im seeing way too many girl avatars on menewsha and on gaia and a few other sites. I used to think that internet and gaming and all was a boy thing, but now its half half, I guess. [ Ok that was a little rant of mine ]
But, theres this senerio on this "end of the world" thereos [ sp? ] site which said that men have less male [ x chronosome, right? ] in their sperm. Or something like that.
So, are there too many girls in the world today? Or am I worrying about this too much? Or is it still uncertain on this issue?

Actually, more boys are conceived, but girls live longer and have a better life span. As far as numbers go, they tend to be about even with a slight tilt towards women. That's how humans are built. xD
And, um, the male chromosome, which is the Y (if you have two X chromosome's you're a girl. If you have an X and a Y, you're male) has been shrinking. It's already a lot smaller than the X chromosome. But it won't make a difference until humans have evolved around it hopefully. ^^
Plus, the internets and techy things like that used to be mostly male, but now there's a greater equality of people getting on, so there are more women getting on. And sites like Menewsha and Gaia are slightly more catered towards women, anyways. >.<
Meh. I'm not worried. The only reason why it seems like there's a dearth of men is because more women are getting on.

Personally, I think the world is too overpopulated in general.
And not to be mean or terrible or anything...but I think we need some more natural disasters to wipe out some people o___o;;;
That...or people with lots of money need to donate more so that all the impoverished people of the world won't be in a state of poverty anymore...

True, I know xD
But first you say that a natural disaster should happen, then you say that the rich should help people back down there. Its either the people down there die, or we? : S Well ok, not down there, other people, me bad.

Yeah, but that doesn't change the way that the human body is built. For some reason, I'm not sure what, women live longer than men, no matter the health standards of that country, as long as it's a western/westernized country. It has little to nothing to do with smoking, drinking, drugs, insert vice here. >.<
Yeah. It kinda is. It's pretty and pink, and a big focus of the site is dressing up little characters. It is kinda girly. xD
And, yeah, the world is overpopulated, but there are two ways of fixing that, in my opinion. If the poorer peoples of the world are educated, the birthrates there will decline. It is a fairly firm theory that birthrate decreases as education increases.
Also, people in the westernized countries should try to limit their populations. If every couple has two children, then the population will eventually drop below replacement level. >.< Not that I'm suggesting totalitarian, every couple is only allowed to have two children tactics, just that if that is the case, then that would help overpopulation in the long run. :3

Huh? I don't see your claim mathematically in terms of genetic probability (but then again, not all genetics is mathematic). And even so, I think there's empirical evidence that even if tilted, it's still close enough to 50/50 that it doesn't matter.
However, I feel there aren't a significantly larger population of women... just more girls go onto sites like Menewsha, mySpace, and such because they are social networking sites, and girls are, well, much more social. So, like, if you're on these sites, you're just likely to SEE more girls and percieve it as more.
So whoever said this is a girly site. YEAH. Just look at all those "boy or girl" threads. I think guys need to be doing soemthing more than just chatting on a forum to be entertained. And dude, it's a giant dress-up-the-dolly game. XD!
I'm in full supoprt of education on contraceptives. I mean, the overpopulation thing is painfully evident. Just... lotta people are stupid and keep poppin' 'em out.

I think in westernized cultures where women are treated more fairly, equal rights movements and all, the female population is just slightly in the majority, but in the older cultures such as in China and India where female children are avoided if at all possible, the deficiency of females (yes, it's considered an actual deficiency) is significant enough to balance out the rest of the world. So generally I'd say the world's gender population is about even. Gender distribution, not so much....

I agree.
But when you go out on the street, it's pretty even.
But then again with chances in the Chomosomes, females are more likely to be born.
3 X Chromosomes.
(two from mother, 1 from father)
and one Y chromosome from the father.
It's like flipping two coins but one is double sided. ^^

... It's not so much that there are more boys then girls. Boys are more inclined then girls to make female avatars for themselves. I know WAY too many guys who would rather have a female avatar then a male one, even though the rationality behind that really boggles my mind. o.o; Also, sites like Gaia and Menewsha that are "cute" oriented, are more likely to attract girls. Especially Menewsha, since even the male avatars are pretty girly looking. XD

@xynii: Your probabilities are wrong. >.< Yeah, the mother has two X chromosomes and the father only one, but men have to have one X chromosome. And since half the sperm created have X chromosomes and half Y chromosomes, more or less, no matter what it's a fifty percent chance about whether the child is going to be male or female. The egg from the mother will always have an X.

Lol, zynii, I just took a huge course segment about probability.
Temmon's right. The mathematical probability is 50-50. Draw a Punnett (spelling?) Square. It's one of those "A, given B" things on two independent variables. "What're the chances the second chromosome is Y given teh first is X?" (because the mother always donates X). P(A \intersect B ) over P(A) - it's just P(B). So, the dad has two chromosomes to give - one X, one Y, so it's 50-50. And if the kid's XX, it's a girl, and if the kid's XY, it's a boy. Suffice to say, there are chances where kids will end up, like, XXY, or YY because the birth process isn't perfect. XXY tend to look like girls but have like, testes where their ovaries should be. And YY - without all the chromosomes on that X - tend to be disabled.
God, that's so complicated but anyone who's taken discreete math will feel my pain, lol. *failing it right now*
Nevertheless, lol.. I mena, just go to a World fo Warcraft site - you'll see more guys there.

xD I'm taking discrete math next semester.
Although could a YY baby actually come to term? 'Cause a lot of growth is regulated by genes on the X chromosome that have no corresponding alleles on the Y chromosome. And there are all sorts of other nondisjunction problems dealing with the sex chromosomes.
We're studying genetics in my biology class, and I luff genetics anyways. ^^

- a YY baby couldn't exist... the mere fact that it's in the womb means that an egg was involved, meaning that there was an X chromosome.
But discrete math and biology don't necessarily go hand in hand, I mean, mathematically you might see one thing, but in observation you'd see another.
There are also XXY males which have less body hair, more defined breasts, and I think they can be sterile. There are also XXX females, I believe. Anything without an X-chromosome, however, does not become a human.

in my opinion there are more girls or so it seems
but since there are more girls in the world and less guys meaning later on in the "future" there will be less babies bringing our population down to a steady number instead of this unsteady number of babies that appear in hospitals every minutes or second

Not really.
With the rate at which people change partners, I don't think it really affects the population.
What affects the population more is when there are fewer girls than boys, because the girls are needed to carry the babies.
In many species, there are only a few males to several females, because the males will mate with all of the females... so it would make sense if there was a slight tilt demographically toward females, even in humans.

Actually, there could possibly be a YY fertilized egg. Not that it could possibly come to term. It would require nondisjunction events with both the mother's and the father's sex chromosomes, so the mother didn't pass any, and the father gave two Y's. Highly unlikely though, and it couldn't possibly develop. XXX are technically female, and have few to no problems. They just have an extra set of Barr body's. Single X individuals are also technically female, but are shorter than usual, have a few other problems, and are sterile. XYY are male and fertile, actually.
And it's not that without an X it doesn't become human. It's that without an X, it can't develop, because there are a lot of genes on the X chromosome that don't exist on the Y chromosome that are necessary for fetal development.

I've noticed on a lot of these sites, there seems to be more girls than boys. I think it's because girls are more attracted to these kinds of sites, though there are plenty of boys too. I think it depends on which site too, sites like Gaia are so large it seems about even, and then there are other sites that, even though they are smaller, I guess the type of avatars they have still lend themselves to be more even, while maybe the cutesier sites have more girls. One site I go to called Whuddleworld is extremely cute and all pretty colors and such, and there is a huge noticeable lack of boys on that site. Sure there's a few but the difference is very obvious. As for real life, well I once heard that in America there are slightly more females than males. I don't know about the rest of the world though. But yeah I don't think internet sites are a good way of telling things like this because signing up for these things is optional. And another thing is that a lot of guys like to have girl avatars. And some girls have boy avatars. And some people switch between the two. XD I do... A lot of the male hair looks kind of girly so I try them out and stuff. So yeah it's really kinda hard to tell.

On this site there are too many girls, but it is a new site and boys may start increasing in over time whether it's a mass population increase or in little increments. If not, then this site may just be popular more to girls over guys. Who knows, time will tell eventually.
