A nuclear holocaust? I'd have to hope that even the people who have access to the button have some kind of survival instinct. I mean, they have to realize that launching their nukes will likely get them nuked in turn. Are political ideals so important that you'd be willing to snuff out all of humanity for them? Seems kind of counterproductive to me, I don't know about anyone else.

War.
That's really all there is to it.

Orr.. something like that 8)

It can only get smaller, as the 'fuel' it uses dies out... then it will explode and create a black hole and simultaneously deprive Earth of light.
This'll take billions of years, though.

Berginyon 03-01-2008 06:13 PM

Actually, the way I read it, our sun is not big enough to become a black hole. What WILL happen, if I remember correctly, is that as the sun runs out of hydrogen, the star starts fusing heavier atoms which leads to a chain reaction where the surface temperature cools, the star loses density, and it's surface area gets bigger. I don't think it's an issue of gravity changing at all, since I think red giants are still proportionately the same mass as the original star... but they do predict it'll envelop the inner planets, although chances are it'll evaporate our atmosphere and kill all life on the planet before it actually evolves to the red giant stage. At least, that's what I read about in my Carl Sagan book :P

It's not likely to supernova either... the next stage after that I think is an extremely unstable neutron star, thereafter devolving into a white dwarf and eventually burning out like a snuffed candle. Not incredibly dramatic, is it?

Afterglow 03-01-2008 07:13 PM

The sun exploding.
Most likely.

Or Global Warming.
Or Pollution, which ever one comes first. o3o

Takabean 03-01-2008 09:28 PM

When the sun goes supernova and explodes. Which won't be for a long time, so that's good. :D

Berginyon 03-02-2008 05:46 AM

But it won't! It'll go red giant and then die. It doesn't have the mass to go supernova.

LemonWarlord 03-02-2008 11:28 PM

I've actually heard that it is more likely that the galaxy of Andromeda will crash into the Milky Way.
It may leave us intact, or we'll be pulled in the gravitational fields and essentially be destroyed.
Depends on chance.

I think we will kill ourselves off. Over time, the young will find no need for the old and laws will be passed stating that you can only be so old before you are no longer allowed to live. I can also see that bar being lowered more and more, female babies being killed more often than allowed to live since humanity seems to think men are always better than women, causing loss of population because there will be no females to repopulate. Then it will lead to the few women left being forced to reproduce at an alarming rate, which will weaken and eventually kill them and probably any children they would give birth to after a time. Ultimately, men will be the only ones left. Once food and sanity run low, they will turn to savagely fighting amongst themselves until only one remains, and he too will eventually die, leaving nothing left of the human race. Animals will die over time as well, but for more natural reasons than man's folly.

These is very little or no logic to that.
Women are needed to reproduce, we know that.

Also, why would there be an age bar? No really legitimate reason.

As for them weaken and eventually kill themselves, that won't happen. A human will just breed slower than others, there also would be some natural selection in play to help the fittest survive.

And... food won't run low. Plenty of food out there, you just need to grow it.

Saiyuki Cosplayer 03-04-2008 04:09 AM

If humans are stripped down to their bare instincts, then that would not be the case. An "age bar" to weed out the "weak" and keep the "strong".

And a woman CAN die more easily if she is forced to reproduce almost every nine months. There is not enough time for the body to "heal" itself, like lowering the specific hormones that raise during birth. They would only raise again the next time she starts the cycle. There would be no slowing down to regain her strength. One of my friends seems to not know how to use a condom, and because of that, his girlfriend has gotten pregnant time and time again. Before it started, she was healthy. Now, she could break at any second, it seems. We took her to the doctor, and he said it was due to her body not being able to recover after the ten children and even more miscarriages. So, yes, it is possible.

If man cannot work together, how is man supposed to harvest the land? At the point in which this would happen, most animals and plant life would probably be extinct due to humanity wasting so many resources, which would call for artificial foods, sciences to recreate extinct life, and things of that nature. Trust me, it's possible. Humans destroy everything they touch as time goes on. Most of the world's resources are finite.

...Jesus will come back and kick some antichrist ass.

Or, we'll blow ourselves up with nuclear war.

Yep.

sad_girlformat 03-10-2008 01:35 AM

are we aiming at the funny side of how the world would end, or the scientific way??

I think the moon with crash!! ^O^ It is true though... it's coming closer to earth, but it'll be a long long time before the moon crashes earth...

I was thinking a little of both. Honestly, I think Jesus will return but when I am not sure. We could have a nuclear winter first.

...Or, according to Al Gore, we're all going to die like the polar bears.

Faggy 03-13-2008 02:25 PM

Robots will take over. BEEP BOOP.

Or aliens will finally be like GAWD, you humans fucking suck. =/ And keel us.

Orrrr...probably global warming. xD
a huge flooding and we will all drown. c:

OMG! What if it becomes like WATERWORLD?
Kick ass. xD

@
Nightshade1988: Guess I'm dead then. c:
Sorry, jesus. ;D

I think the melting of ice caps due to global warming would gradually sink the continents until the earth is nothing but a water ball. The ozone depletes, the ice caps melts and we all die. End of the human’s world.

Spiffy Oranges 03-16-2008 04:07 PM

I think a combination of things will destroy us.
War is a big one, along with nukes, disease, possibly global warming, and natural disasters caused by the crazy weather patterns.

Pina_Colada 03-16-2008 06:17 PM

It will be when water and monkey's genetically splice with Albert Einstein's cloned brains. They will be like chaos (if you've ever played sonic games) and destroy everything in their path causing floods across the globe...
Global Warming? psh Not likely, its the monkey's...always the monkey race.

Well I like this theory:
The Big Crunch theory is a symmetric view of the ultimate fate of the universe. Just as the Big Bang started a cosmological expansion, this theory postulates that the average density of the universe is enough to stop its expansion and begin contracting. The end result is unknown; a simple extrapolation would have all the matter and space-time in the universe collapse into a dimensionless singularity, but at these scales unknown quantum effects need to be considered.

This scenario allows the Big Bang to have been immediately preceded by the Big Crunch of a preceding universe. If this occurs repeatedly, we have an oscillatory universe. The universe could then consist of an infinite sequence of finite universes, each finite universe ending with a Big Crunch that is also the Big Bang of the next universe. Theoretically, the oscillating universe could not be reconciled with the second law of thermodynamics: entropy would build up from oscillation to oscillation and cause heat death. Other measurements suggested the universe is not closed. These arguments caused cosmologists to abandon the oscillating universe model. A somewhat similar idea is embraced by the cyclic model, but this idea evades heat death, because of an expansion of the branes that dilutes entropy accumulated in the previous cycle.
