Sadly, I have to agree, "looks" do play a major part in life. Theres people who feel insecure about there outward appearances, and they tend to perform low. Especially now with the whole media frenzy, you hardly see "average" people anywhere.

Although, there is times when people break of the box, and actually become successful in life.

It depends on the business you go into. It helps when your an actor, musician, and anything really where you get lots, and lots of face time.

Now if you are an engineer, doctor, business man or women it really doesn't matter as much. I mean, look at the richest people in the world, they aren't that pretty are they? XD

But yeah it does, depending on what job you enter.

To me, It all depends on what you call "do well in life" I mean, if "do well" means to have a great house a rich marriage and money I will say yes, why? simply because poeople with money like to look pretty and are always only looking for beauty in the exterior.
SO you will for sure marry someone rich that buys you everything, or get good grades at University because the teachers will like you and would like to sleep with you.
Will have a great job for the same reasons.
Nobody can deny it really since this is as true as the Sun.

Though if you mean by "Do good in life" to have improved spiritually I would say it is the same to be beautiful or not, it all depends on the strneght you have and the will to become a better human being.

I think that is attached closely to your beliefs, and what you think life is about.

If you are a clever spiritual person, one that is not always looking for flesh pleasures and realises there is much more beyond this dream life is, then you will look for something beyond exterior and looks, so probably you wont be rich but will have the best life one can have making people happy, being caring and good to everyone and improving your life every step trying to be better, that is for me what really matters and why we are here in this earth,

Well more or elss what I think of the point.

Carrie Underwood and her albums made a bajillion sales. In acting - its important as well. What do you think?

That comparison makes no sense to me.
Not only is Carrie very beautiful, but her voice is amazing too.

I think there is a double standard
A women isn't allowed to have a career in the public media if she is unattractive, but a man could be terribly ugly and become incredibly famous.

Nope, I don't think so, cause maybe the most ugliest person has the most amazing voice, or they have the most amazing skill to do anything. That is why you should never underestimate anybody. =) You nevere know what they are capable of doing.

no it doesent matter because no matter how you look its the inside that matters and if your really pretty you could be ugly inside so just think about that saying don't judge a book by its cover.

Oh GOD yes!!!! I can not tell you how mny times i have been cheated out of somehitng by a person who was more attractive then me. Okay, no, i do NOT consider my self ugly in the soceity way, or a personal way. Im pretty even. The thing is, i can see how a pretty person, less qualified then em, equal, or even more qualified, are always the ones to seem to win, get a job, beat me in a game, or otherwise just claim superiority over me in any way, shape, or form...

In today's superficial society, most definitely. People judge, and the first thing people judge is outward appearance. A guy may only ask out a girl because he thinks she's "hot", A person may only be accepted to take a job because they dressed more nicely than the person who interviewed before them, Some singers aren't as famous as others because they're not as attractive, etc.

Another example: All freshmen at my school have to take gym. However, some of the girls get pulled out during the first six weeks to be an office aid. One of the assistant principles walks in, looks at us for a minute, and picks the ones who don't look like they need to be in PE. Ie, "the pretty ones." So if you're gorgeous, you just might not have to suffer.

(However, I was sure to let anyone know that I didn't support this- I'm pretty but a little out of shape, and I have more office aid experience than most of the girls who got picked. so I got chosen, by my gym coach, to be my favorite teacher's office aid during her conference period. : ))

& another example- Just look at "singers" nowadays.

I even tend to judge people by their avatars on Mene. If someone has a well matching avatar with a good color scheme, I'll envy him or her and think that he or she must be at least a little organized or prioritize matching. If someone has a sloppy, mismatching, or unbalanced avatar, I tend to think that they're more focused on other aspects of Menewsha. Whether these are true assumptions or not, they're assumptions made by me and surely not me alone.

So, basically, as long as people judge, which will be a long time because that's human nature, sometimes your success will be determined by your looks. I don't agree that it should be because that's basically pretty immoral if the judgee cannot help his or her appearance, but it happens.

Well thats my opinion.

I think it does for me. Everyone at my school is pretty and I'm not even likable looking (in my opinion) but others say otherwise. I think weight has a lot too about what people think about you when they look at you.
