This is what I think the law should be so poeple can stop coming up with weirdo reasons like a guy marrying his snake  :
Two human beings of legal age can marry if they want to. No matter their gender, race, sexual orientation, realigion, etc.

Exactly. It shouldn't be "a man and a woman", it should be two consenting adults. I haven't heard one good reason why it shouldn't be. For example, the common argument I hear is, "oh, people would start marrying animals, lol". When you think about it, that argument is actually pretty offensive. Why should two adults that happen to be homosexual be compared to an adult and an animal? Unless people are saying that homosexual people aren't human, I don't see why we aren't banning straight marriage, since it's the same thing except the two people are opposite gender.
I come from the legal perspective though. With gay marriage, it would be two consenting adults. The words consenting and adult being the key words. An animal cannot give consent, and a child cannot give consent NOR are they an adult.

Even if you don't believe in gay marriage, I don't understand why you'd have to impose your beliefs on someone else. Who cares what other people do as long as it doesn't hurt you?
I really want someone to tell me how gay marriage hurts them. Seriously.
I mean, even in the Bible, I think that only homosexuals are punished for their 'crimes'. In other words, individuals who are not gay will not be punished. So Christians wouldn't have to worry about eternal damnation or anything... it's something that only gays would have to worry about... right?
If gay couples adopt children, then sure, maybe there will be more gays in future generations. But in the meantime, children without homes will receive them. And I really don't think we have to worry about humanity being driven to extinction because there might not be any heterosexual couples in the distant future.
And even if humanity became extinct in the future, how would that hurt anyone alive right now?

I believe in gay marriage.
Basically what you people are saying is that two people, who love eachother, aren't allowed to get married because they're of different gender. Yet in our history, we seem to still have no problem with arranged marriages. Does that mean that two people of different genders, who have never met before, have more right to be married than two people of different genders? Uh, hello, where the hell is the reason in that?
As for the religious part of this. I'm Christian. And I believe in gay marriages. Now before you whip out the Bibles and give me your royal crap, I would also like to point out what other shit is in the world. Hello? War, famine. Greedy lil bastards that let poor people starve on the streets. And of all the things you can complain about, you complain about two people in love. Once more, any common sense in this? No, I don't see it.
And for another part of this, not everyone is Christian. That's right. Here in the US, we can choose our own religion. Freedom of religion. And yet, what did we base this law upon? Dont' lie to yourself, its religion. If it weren't for religion, there would be absolutely nothing against this. Which means that laws against gay marriage more or less is going against the Consitution itself.
This isn't your love. You don't feel the passion for another person. The people out there do. If YOU don't believe in gay marriage, that's your own crap and you can keep it to yourself. But there are people out there that are in love like that. You can keep on bitching about how wrong you think it is, but keep it out of other people.
Hating people for their sexual preference is like hating people for the color of their skin. We have the right to get married to whomever we want, and gender shouldn't stop us any more than our nationality or hair color.

I believe in gay marriage.
It's not just because that I'm personally a lesbian. I'm not a person who's enamoured with the idea of being married - I don't think that I need to get married to someone to express my love for her.
My stance on it is that homosexual marriage should be allowed on the basis that marriage is not an exclusively Christian concept. Hindus get married. Pagans get married. Atheists and agnostics get married.
Marriage has been around for far, far longer than Christianity has. To claim that it is a Christian idea and that we, as a society, must therefore uphold this notion is in my opinion preposterous.
If the Christians want "a holy union between a man and a woman" to be something, and this thing, by definition, to exclude homosexual couples - fine. But marriage itself does not belong to the Christians.

If saying that gays have "screwed up the planet" then we are in a lot deeper then we thought.
So a male can not marry another male that he loves just as much as another male would love a woman? Just because that male loves another male, that automaticly means their love isn't worth it? Love is love, their is no restrictions on love except the binds that our messed up society has brought upon us.
Just because it's unnatural to some, doesn't give them the right to judge. No one seems to want to put themself in the shoes of those who fight this rising problem.
Gay/Lezbians are people, just like you and me, they are human. If humans did everything by the book, would that make the world the interesting place it is today? Would anyone really experience life to the fullest if nothing changed? What if we never gave ANYTHING a chance?
Everyone for thousands of years had always something to say against another, no one has ever gotton along. If everyone was exactly the same, everything was "normal" then everything would be alright?
Why not go against others like mentally 'insane'? It's all the same isn't it? They don't live up to the "standards" of society, so they are treated different. Going against gays, is like going up against every other group that anyone finds unnatural. For example, Gothics, Emo, Spiritals, It's their way of life, who are we to decide how they live?
We aren't alone in life, so why attempt to forsaken others because we think different?

For freakin sake! They should be allowed. If they want marriage let them. There is no reason for you to say they cannot because its there own choice. No matter how others think. If you love someone you will marry them, So where is the wrong in love. The sex? the gender? what the frig!
I don't care about their sex lives trust me I don't want to know I hear enough about my brothers life as a normal "MAN" (if he is one O.o) Either way It does not matter what they are. Man and man, Woman and Woman, Man and Woman. We all are allowed love. In ways unknown to some. But let them have what they desire. No matter what others think, its a right among citizens to have a free will, why should they be treated any different?

wow have I got the perfect thing for this, our AP Lang teacher showed us this in class a few days ago and I found it on the internet, here you are, enjoy!
Laura Schlessinger is a US radio personality who dispenses sex advice to
people who call in to her radio show. Recently, she said that as
anobservant Orthodox Jew, homosexuality is an abominaton according to
Leviticus 18:22 and cannot be condoned in anyircumstance. The followingis
an Open Letter to Dr. Laura penned by a US resident, which was posted on
the Internet:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Dr. Laura:
Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I
have learned a great deal from your radio show, and I try to share that
knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the
homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus
18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some
advise from you, however, regarding some of the specific Bible laws and how
to follow them.
a)When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a
pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev. 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They
claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?
b)I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus
21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?
She's 18 and starting University. Will the slave buyer continue to pay for
her education by law ?
c)I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her
period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev. 15:19-24). The problem is, how do I
tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.
d)Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female,
provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine
claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify?
......Why can't I own Canadians?
e)I have a neighbor who insists on working on the
Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally
obligated to kill him myself, or should this be a neighborhood improvement
project ?
f)A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an
abomination (Lev. 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I
don't agree. Can you settle this?
g)Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a
defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my
vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here? Would contact
lenses help ?
h)Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around
their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev.19:27. How
should they die?
i)I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me
unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?
j)My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different
crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two
different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse
and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble
of getting the whole town together to stone them? (Lev.24:10-16) Couldn't
we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with
people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)
I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confidentyou can
help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and
unchanging.
Your devoted disciple and adoring fan.

@silent.assassin: Ideas, especially those of an individual, are never neutral. There will always be bias and outside influence. I do not understand. Why are different ideas considered neutral? After all, someone has to think of them, and that person might or might not support the cause which leads to a biased theory.

Well a person is biased and raised, but that doesn't justify that they flame their own ideals. Of course we may flame OTHER people for their ideals, but we never feel that we are the ones doing so, simply stating that we always think we're right, which is why ideas are pooled together in a debate. Also meaning that ideas are hand-picked out and prized, and others are left behind to rot. It's how twisted they are, but someone eventually will pick up the idea once more and turn it into something beautiful with meaning. ;D
Life is good.

Yeah, my point is that I'm trying not to criticize any parties at all. Not their ideas, but the points they're trying to make out. So I call myself "pure". NOT impeccable, but pure. Obviously, Demonic Vampire and I had quite a number, but that's because I didn't understand how her points contributed to the debate at all, and I didn't say downright "O MY GHAD THAT'S STOOPID." Rather, pointing out how it was controversial. It's not the same as criticizing one thing if you're proving right the other. :/
But it depends how you look at things. I say the box is white, you might say it's black. Technically, the box is gray.

@silent.assassin: The box does not have to be grey. x_x It could be black or white for all we know. But no one can never be completely right because there are no set of rules for anything. Like gay marriage? Everyone has different opinions, and there is really no one with enough power to convince everybody otherwise.
