Yes, it's really hard to explain the flavor and texture of it. It's really a very odd fruit, but it tastes rather nice. Not tart, which is good. And you can bite right into it, since it rarely has seeds.

Hahaha, butternut squash and a tomato [lol] Very accurate visual discription xD They don't taste like that though, lol. They're really nice. Flesh like...er, I dunno xD A firm peach or something? Soft and bitable, but not mushy. Not crunchy like apples, not mealy like pears. Quite dense, and a lovely flavour!

As Suona says they're not sharp, but they're not too sweet either. Maybe fragrant is the term to use? Chi, I'm quite convinced you'd like them!

lol Yeah, it's rough to put into words. It's a consistency unlike any other fruit that I've had, so putting it into words that make sense is a bit hard. It's worth trying, though. [yes]

Yeah, I had a friend over the other day and offered her one. She just thought they were related to a tomato, because they look so much like one, and refused because she hates tomatoes. lol I made her feel that it was solid and cut her a slice. She finally tried it and loved it! :D Victory! But yeah, we talked about it and we couldn't put it into the right words at the time either.

It's just so much more dense and smooth than most fruit

I think... I think there's another fruit like that. MANGO!! That's what the inside looks like, they're the same color, but mango looks slightly more grained. Mangoes are also a good mix between pears and peaches. I just hope you're right about the flavor being fairly savory. Mangoes are disgustingly sweet.

Oh, not savoury in any way, but a clean taste? I love mango, but it can be intensely sweet, yeah, the persimmons I've had (which is all of 2) weren't that level of sweetness.

I'd be interested to know your opinion on them, so you've got to try them now, just so you can try and describe them to us!

I'm also keen to know what Chi thinks of them when she tries them :D

I've never really eaten a mango. I compared it to a mango, because their consistency looked similar, but my friend at the time said they weren't similar. The only mango I had was a bite and it was god-awful. I later was told by my roommate that it wasn't near ripe...unfortunately it was already thrown out. I wish I knew that, because if they really are sweet then I would have loved it.

Ripe mangoes are very sweet, but unripe will pucker the inside of your mouth. I didn't realize this for a long long time... xD

I'll see if the store still has persimmons when I go toward the end of the week. (: I'll report back!

What's everyone been cooking this week? I made a beef stroganoff last night.

Yeah, I'll have to try one now. I NEED FOOD IN THIS HOUSE! Otherwise my Christmas meal for the food competition is going to be spaghetti with Christmas sprinkles on it. [facepalm] I think I might use the rest of my flour to make cinnamon rolls, or maybe a bread with raisins and cinnamon, etc. and serve it with a soup or something. OMG I HAVE SWEET POTATOES.

*LEGASP* I could dye the noodles red and green like I saw on pinterest! i.e. split the noodle into two pots and add food coloring while boiling.

I have cooked nothing this week. Been hardcore studying for finals. I honestly usually forget to even eat when working on schoolwork for an extended amount of time. I've been snacking a lot, though. /:

Yay for finished finals! How long is your break?

I made a veggie soup yesterday, but didn't have the zucchini it called for. I think it needed it. Tonight I'll be making something with chicken, but I don't know what yet.

Was the soup not good without the zucchini? That's cool that you made your own soup, though.

I'm baking that persimmon bread right now. Smells glorious, and the batter was delicious. Hope it's good :)

The soup was good without it, but it needed something else. The recipe actually called for a homemade pesto to be dolloped on top, and that would have done it with the zucchini. The store was out of it though. I didn't make the pesto 'cause we need to eat extremely low fat 'till my husband has his gallbladder out. >>;;
