I'm taking 5 AP honors classes and I'm just procrastinating - I have been on this lovely Thursday where I have 3 tests tomorrow and I start school at 8 tomorrow instead of 7.
So my grades have been slipping - I aspire to be...nothing. I have no ambition in life because I hate working, I only like to learn. I like grades purely for the letter.
The sole time waster is homework; when I don't have school I lounge around and become depressed.
Friends...? I laugh enough.:o

But anyways, I'm drawn to the conclusion since that I don't want to be anything, is there any reason to try so hard? I want to lounge around and do nothing. Today I only watched TV and listened to trashy music and I LOVED IT.:insane:
It's my issue, but I want your opinions - should I continue or should I wimp out because I want to read books and understand about history, not learn about lattice energies and algebra...:(

Well, regarding how you feel, a lot of kids feel that same way about Highschool too. No one wants to learn about Calculus, because it'll never be used in most jobs unless you'll major in math. It just seems like tedious work to memorize and learn about something that you'll never use in the future.

But, Highschool does matter. Even though everything seems pointless, your grades are very important. A lot of kids don't know what they want to be, or do. But you should still try your very best to earn the best grade you can get.

Because in time you will find something you love to do. It takes time to search for that dream job and pursue that career.

If you let your grades flutter down, where they aren't your best, you might not graduate, and thus my friend, you probably will not earn a job because you wouldn't have any degree. You will solely, live with your parents. I'm pretty sure you don't want to live with them forever, or any guardian you're living with.

Just keep at it, and earn those grades at your best and get your Highschool degree. If you graduate but still have no clue where you want to go, then head over to a community college and wander around in the subjects there to find a future career.

I'm sure you will find something you'll love to do other than lounging around.

It matters.

Many jobs wouldn't hire people without at least a high school education
*with diploma*
Maybe the idea of lounging around is nice
but you need money and time to do it
We live in a society that can only thrive through hard work, earning, and saving.

It may not be the most wonderful lifestyle but it's the only way to make it so
you won't have to squander for money, food, or home.

Education helps to give you a future to look forward to.
I probably don't appreciate working for money
but I like the idea of having a family and being happy.
So I have to work.. I have to learn...

The only thing that gives me the most inner strength is my grand mother
she passed away but I want to do everything to make her proud

Money isn't everything, but the work you do to make a happy life is what worth it

I've just graduated with my Bachelor's Degree from college last month, and I have to say, unless you plan on going to an Ivy League school, those AP classes don't mean anything.

When I was in high school, this was my typical Junior Year; all AP high school courses on the weekdays, college classes on the weekends, if I'm lucky...squeeze in a part-time job in between, participate in 7 different clubs before and after school, winning contests/awards. Frankly, by Senior Year I was so burned out and depressed that I learned I failed one of my AP classes Junior Year and had to retake it, my grades were slipping, I refused to join more than 3 clubs, etc.

Basically, I only had one AP class my Senior Year, all of my other classes became regular but I still went to college on the weekends and worked part-time for two months in between. I got hit by a big reality check at the end of my senior year from my former English teacher, she said in front of the whole class, "college is a glorified high school, in fact, high school is useless...you can drop out now and go to a community college without a GED and diploma and just take your high school courses there, except they won't count towards your credits. Yes, it's alittle more money, but you'll still end up with a college degree".

It was because of her words that I decided to stop burning myself out and only have 1 AP class. When I graduated high school I had enough credits to get 3 different Associate degrees in 1.5 years, but by then I was so sick of school...I really needed a vacation, the stress of high school gave me insomnia, anxiety attacks, and depression.

I went to a normal private college, I got my Bachelor's degree in 3 years. Most of the college classes I took in community college didn't transfer over to my college. This college wasn't impressed with my high school resume, they just wanted someone to be able to graduate. Even state universities didn't go, "omg...I'm very impressed!". I've applied for scholarships, I didn't get any.

The thing I learned now that I should've learned back then, is that unless I had planned to go to the most prestigious school in the country and unless I was going for a degree that wouldn't cover the cost of college at the end, it was pointless for me to try so hard. Not only did I skip on alot of parties, not only did I skip on having time with friends and having zero social life, I was always studying and sleeping, never had a vacation .... in fact, this is my FIRST vacation in FIVE YEARS.

I should've had fun, if I got a "D" and my GPA went down...so what? I was still going to college and I still ended up graduating. Don't beat yourself up in highschool, enjoy it. Take it easy on the AP courses, and have FUN.

Honestly, I think you might just need a break from all the learning.
Take a little while to just laze around and do nothing!
Play some vid-games, chillax with your buddies.. Watch all the movies and tv shows you want.
Read a bunch of books, relax!

Trust me, once you have a few months of doing nothing.. you'll be CRAVING homework and something to do.

Ah, I feel your pain. I was an AP kid in high school, too. It's a lot of work and a lot of pressure.

I think you're just getting Senior Slump.

One sort of education will beget another. If you continue your math class, they actually will help and influence your reading. (It's true!) It exercises your brain in a way that you might not enjoy, but all the gears are turning. By forcing you to solve problems and do work that might not be easy, you're growing.

Give yourself a mental health day once in a while - Junk food, loud music, lying on the couch, all that fun stuff. But otherwise, settle down to your work. Good high school grades and good SAT scores will get you into a good college, that then lets you study exactly what you want to.

Even better - If you do well on the AP tests, you'll get college credit. That means that you won't have to take the courses you don't like. If you suffer through math now, it's very likely that you'll never have to take another math class again.

Ok, I felt the same way as you when I was in High school. I didn't even take Alg. 2 because I didn't like math, and I just wanted to relax and do what ever. Now I'm kicking myself for it because I found what I want to do with my life, and I have so much further to go than I would have if I had actually worked in High School (Not that I didn't graduate or get good grades, I just didn't take the classes I needed)

Bottom line, Just suck it up and do the work. The less time you spend complaining and hating the fact that you have homework, the faster it will get done and you can watch TV and listen to trashy music. And, with all the AP classes you are taking, you can get into a better college and get a better education, where you get to pick the classes you take so you will only be learning about things that interest you. High school sucks, but its a fact of life and you just need to buckle down, and get the work done so you can succeed in the rest of your life.
Whether that means lazing around or doing a job that you love (or hate) not finishing High school is about the worst thing you could do to yourself.

yeah, I'm with Knerd. It's just the Senior Slump. I had that, except I wanted nothing more than to be done high school, so I can move on to do stuff I want to do. I'm at a Career Institute (specialized college), and I'm loving it!
Everyone wants to be something, you want to learn the rest of your life. Why not be a teacher. Not only do you learn something new, but you can also bring a love of a subject out for others. You mentioned that you liked history. Aspire to bring the love of history to others. ^.^

My guidance counselor used to say that I'd never finish college, that by the time I die I'd have over 400 degrees.

If I had know what I had wanted to do back then in high school, I would've either taken it easy or kick it up a notch. Looking back, I can honestly say that high school wasn't that difficult for me, the difficult part was just me trying not to be lazy.

First I want to ask, what guidance counsuler advised you to take that many AP courses? Second, High School is important. If only so you learn how to deal with people. I took two AP courses, two honors courses, and two regular courses in high school. That teaches you a lot about people. If you can handle the course load of that many AP classes you are incredible.

As for the like to learn thing, I am the same way. Don't burn yourself out trying to make yourself attractive to a college. Have fun in high school while your classes are still free. Take a blow off class, or drop a few AP classes. You need to have life while you still can. And do the stupid work. I know it sucks, I have a paper I have to write right now as well... but you have to do it eventually.

Good luck and I hope you can come to a decision soon.

I think that everybody goes through this phase. I am going through it now and im in college. I make really good grades and was taking classes that were college level in high school but after a while it will just get old. It is an ok feeling but don't indulge in it to much cause high school matters cause that is what gets you into college. Trust me with the way the economy is you dont want to have to be one of the people in line to flip burgers at mac donalds. even alot of the people with college degrees are struggling but the people with just high school diplmoas seem to be in an even worse predicament. So in my opinion high school matters alot cause it is hard to even get a job at a burger joint without it.

Even though I can work on multi-million dollar aircraft, I still get looked at as a second-grade citizen by the civilian world because I have my GED.

So yeah. High school matters. Do your best in high school. =)

Everyone gets into that slump about school. If you really like learning about history, maybe you should think about trying to do something like that in college. There are plenty of fun history type of jobs you can do after you graduate.
As for the AP classes, if you do well and pass the exams, then that will help in your transition into college and make the number of classes you take lesser.
High school might be annoying, but education is very important. Without it, you'll have people controlling you through your lack of knowledge.
