I sometimes have nightmares, but last night (and a lot lately actually) I have been having some... weird ones. Very vivid, very easy to remember, and very SCARY ones... I haven't watched horror movies, played horror games, or even read CreepyPastas since Halloween, so I want someone to tell me if this is... abnormal. Because these are starting to scare me.

It started with me moving into an new house that looked a lot like my old house. I had a nice little room, and after about a week I noticed that there was a little... INDENT in the ceiling above my bed. And the longer we stayed in the house, the more I would hear these very soft almost unnoticeable scratches.

Well, one day my brother (who for some reason was home from college) and my boyfriend (who only exists in an RP...) came in to play video games and THEY heard the scratching with me, and noticed the indent. Later, while my parents were out and it was starting to get dark, we took a paint scraper and scraped away at the ceiling, seeing the indent was actually a kind of attic door.

But... our attic only had one door. And it was in the hallway.

We managed to pull down the ladder and suddenly we hear this loud SCREECH like long sharp nails digging into glass.

Of course, my brother decided it would be a great idea for ME to go up and investigate, and not anyone else. You know, because I'm the oldest and he is secretly a chicken. Just to prove to him that I am not a chicken too, I go up.

Now, it was dark, but I felt around and found a light switch, a lamp and an overhead light turning on instantly. It was really cold, but other than that it was normal, but... I felt like something was not right...

I look around and it actually looks like some kind of really tiny bedroom, very long and with barely enough room to move around. I look at the bed and it is COVERED in dust, it looks like no one had been up there in years.

Suddenly, my phone beeped, and I look down to see a text message. No subject. No number. No message.

I put my phone back into my pocket and look around more, seeing a mirror... with very deep... very long scratches on it. I figure, just bats, rats, nothing more. It's not like there is anything else... right?

I sit on the bed after clearing the dust and look in the nightstand, and the only thing I find is a journal with a picture inside of it. The picture is of a young girl about my age, with her parents and someone who looks like she might be her grandmother. No one looks very happy.

I can't remember anything in the journal except the last few pages were nothing except gibberish. "Let me out. I'm hungry. I can't breathe. I'm thristy, let me out, let me out... they're gone..." And the last page looks like something like someone tried to write, but the pen didn't work... and the page is covered in blood.

Then the scratches. I look around and around and I can't pinpoint them. They're too soft. Then my phone goes off. Again. And again. And again. Text messages. No subject, no number... but this time the same message.

Let me out.
Let me out.
Let me out.
Let me out.
Let me out.
Let meout.
Letme out.
Letmeout.
Letmeout
letmeout
letmeoutletmeoutletmeoutletmeout

Then it rings and picks up by itself on speaker. And a voice, the one of a young girl, raspy and sounding like there is no way she SHOULD be talking, like there is no water in her mouth.

"They... came... back..."

Then I realize, as they grow louder... the scratches are coming from under the bed.

All I remember after that is the door slamming shut and then nothing.

If anyone could help me with this I would be very grateful, I can't take anymore nightmares like this...

I think I should just reassure that there's no such thing as an "abnormal" dream... everyone dreams because our brains never fully switch off, and vivid memorable dreams happen when the wires between the conscious and the subconscious cross and blah blah blah, basically dreams are inescapable and we're all going to have very vivid, awful nightmares from time to time. It's nothing to worry about.

I actually personally do have periods (days/weeks) in which I have nasty, disturbing dreams. Then they suddenly stop, and I'm not troubled by them anymore. It could be that you're worried about something, even subconsciously. Or it could just be one of those things. Who knows for sure?

All that I can remind you is that dreams ARE NOT REAL. Dreams cannot hurt you. They're just your mind being dumb, for lack of a better term, and nothing that happens in them will come true or anything like that. If you'd really, REALLY like to sleep more soundly (that is, if these nightmares become a problem), I might suggest a herbal sleep aid. Kalms is a gentle, soothing medication for anxiety that also helps you sleep easy, if you have it wherever you live. Or you could even try putting a few drops of lavender oil on a hankie, taking a few inhalations of it and then leaving it by your bed while you sleep. It could help to relax you enough that your mind stops running at ninety to the hour.

I hope your nightmares stop soon...! Good luck! =]

I do have weird dreams, I even once had a dream where a murderer was hitting, slapping and torturing my sister. I remember turning myself on the bed, awake, but still watching my sister being nearly killed. But later, I found that it was just a dream.
xD But I really did forget it was a dream and I thought it was real! Good luck, make sure you relax before you go to bed, and read, watch or listen to a sweet, enjoyable or v\cartoons like tom and jerry can do you good. Or thing about your friends/school/teachers before you sleep. It mostly helps, I used to do stuff like this and always I saw dreams of teachers (not good really).

And also, have someone else sleep with you, if you feel safer that way :]

I have some pretty gory and surreal dreams like IV scuba diving and climbing on top of a mountain that looks like a screaming woman. Dreams are apart of the subconscious, so really it may seem abnormal to you but it was already somewhere in your brain and that's the reason why you dreamt it.

Like for example for the IV scuba diving even though I've never been scuba diving in my life I've always had a fear of IVs and yet I love swimming so in that dream it was a mixture of the two.

As for the screaming mountain one I assume its over coming fears since I used to scream a lot when I was a kid over little things but I climbed over them, its really funny when my dreams are metaphorical. XD

I agree with Lorika, dreams are just dreams they can't harm, and its okay if you don't understand you're dream I don't quite understand all over mine either despite how I explained two that I could think of off the top of my head to you.

Do you know anything about lucid dreams?

Anyway, I don't really know how to tell you to "start lucid dreaming", it's kindof something I've always been able to do.
But it makes dreams a lot less scary because in general, I know that it's just a dream, and none of this can hurt me. But sometimes I can even control what goes on in my dreams, those I call my "video game" dreams. And those are badass.

But I guess my advice is to do some research on lucid dreaming.

And I wouldn't be worried about "what dreams mean" since they don't usually mean anything. They're just random memories and thoughts that your brain is trying to sort, file, and organize away for later use (or not) while you're sleeping.

I think when you have dreams/nightmares like that, you should write them down. It makes for a great story and one day, you might get to publish it. Not meaning to downplay your nightmare, but it was a very interesting story for me (and I would LOVE to write a story about it if it wasn't your idea). Writing them might help, too. I have this suspicion that many of Stephen King's stories are based off nightmares he's had and that they are his way of dealing with them.

Like Lorika said, there's no such thing as an abnormal dream. I've had dreams that have deeply disturbed me but I think I'm a pretty sane and balanced girl. I even have a book about dreams that specifically says (using THIS EXAMPLE, I am not kidding) that having strange dreams should not make you feel ashamed, even if it's a dream about having sex with a bear, because it's just your subconscious working its self out.

I completely understand how stressful nightmares can be! It always feels like you haven't really slept when you wake up from them because you spent the whole dream being stressed out and worrying, plus they're just awful things to have. My grandma and mom always explained nightmares to me in this way: its your subconscious trying to tell you there's something you need to deal with, and that you're ready to deal with that something. I'm crap at working out what my nightmares are tying to tell me, but I find it does help to write them down and think about what it might all be about, even if I don't figure out what it all meant- which I almost never do.

If you want to follow that route, it really does help to write them down, or, if you feel comfortable with it, tell a few people about them. Other people might see something you don't, or they might just be good listeners and show an interest, which is also a nice thing to have. Still, dreams are personal, and it's up to you what you share. You might even look up what things in dreams mean if you feel it will help you, but be careful, as your subconscious is going with what it knows, not with what this book or that website says this particular thing in your dream represents.

Good luck! I hope your nightmares stop soon.

Bane Rie - You're having the same nightmare or they vary? Because, (I read this on a magazine once, a long time ago, so please forgive me if it's incomplete) nightmares are a way that our subcounscious intreprete our fears, worries and troubles. For example, sometimes when someones suffer a car crash, there will be that possibility of that person have nightmares about suffering all the accident again, again and again, untill the person doesn't fears cars anymore. The same happens when we really, REALLY are afraid of something or someone. It's completely normal, you just need to be pacient and distract your mind from remembering the nightmare so that you don't get scared or have whatever feeling you get with those nightmares, so that your conscious doesn't keep remembering the bad experience.

Also, but not really important, YOU COULD MAKE A HORROR GAME WITH THAT!!! IT'S JUST AWESUM!!! or a movie, vid, who knows... anyway, I'm sorry for say this but I had to, cuz I can't help but love these horror stuff... :XD

May I first say that your dream could provide a great horror story?

Okay, I think I can help you in this (somewhat) because I've had some very vidid/frightening dreams in my past. As far as I know, dreams are just a combination of memories and ideas that are put together when your subconscious is active and your asleep (I don't actually know because I don't do research) And no matter what shows up it's all in your mind. Of course, you're mind is dangerous itself, but that's besides that point.

I suggest actually reading something you like/ watching a movie before going to bed. Something that would stick in your mind while you go to sleep. It's easier to ease into sleep and sometimes it helps your dreams appear more like what you had just done before bed. It works for me pretty well, but you'll have to try it for yourself.
Good luck, sweet dreams~

My most recent nightmare was very odd though its kinda funny how realistic things can be, i mean they can seem so real that when you wake up your not quit sure if it happened or not .

Trust me, it's normal. I have extreme lucid nightmares where it honestly feels real. I've have dreams of being murdered and seeing myself ripped open, or watching large, mechanical spiders move across the horizon of a parking lot.
Dreams are just interpretations of the real world and memories, and nightmares throw in fear, stress, and depression into the mix, to create horrifying things.

Holy mackerel. If I had a dream like that I would be too scared to go back to sleep. I have had some pretty weird dreams, but not with me being in danger. If that was my dream I would have probably talked to the weird girl. Haha.
Is that the only one you have had?

Other than that, I can't really add to what people have already said really!

o.o Geez. I'd be scared, too!
I don't know if you believe that dreams have a meaning or not. But I do so I'll give advice based around that theory!~
Sounds like there's just some kind of issue that your subconscious is trying to warn you about. Perhaps there's some part of yourself that you're keeping locked away? That you're hoping will "die" if you "starve" it long enough? But whatever that part of you is, it's still alive and it's coming back.
Sorry, I know that sounds pretty crazy XDDD! It may not even be the right interpretation- the truth is that you are the only one who can figure out what your dreams mean because a dream is something that came from your mind. :)

My dreams can be quite frightening, and disturbing more often than not. But this is a pretty normal dream, in a way, because if you did have a weird dream, nobody would consider it such. Maybe something is really, really bothering you. And, not to sound crazy, but maybe someone is trying to contact you from the other side. I don't really know.

My dreams are usually just confusing but I do have a reoccurring nightmare about a large white spider that fills me with irrational and inexplicable dread (Yes I'm arachnophobic) but this particular scares me more than any because I can't classify it so I don't know how deadly it is and it sits there in my dream with its forelegs in the air and it's glistening black fangs displayed. My rational mind abandons me and sheer instinctive terror takes over and I'm petrified. I wake up in a cold sweat with trouble breathing and the urge to scream.

I don't consider yours so abnormal, everyone has nightmares.
