Ok so I had this little male white Parakeet... and I also have a female Terrier Chihuahua. You migh have guessed already but My terrier (Spaghetti) ate him. And I never would have figure out for the life of me why she did it. I had the bird for several months and she just ignored him while he wondered on the floor (seeing as he didn't have wings because they were clipped). So this is totally out of the blue and random, she's not hungry we have been feeding her properly. She isn't by any means a a violent dog. So I dunno.... I geuss its my fault for letting him run about on the floor... But I still don't understand why my dog would do that..... I don't even know how to punish my dog for that, she knows that it was a bad thing.

I don't understand either, I'm really sorry. It was probably just instinct. That sucks.

I agree with that. Your dog might of saw your bird as prey, seeing as it's smaller than your dog. Though I'm sorry that your dog did that D:

Just like they said, it was probably instinct because even though dogs look cute and adorable, people sometimes forget that they're still carnivours and so still have that hunting instinct. You just have to be careful when you have small animals as well as a cat or a dog. You have to watch your little pets so that the bigger ones don't get them. That what I do whenever I let my rat run loose. I always keep an eye on my dog and my cat although, uh, I think my dog's actually scared of my rat 0-o

Anyway, I'm very sorry. Loosing any kind of pet is sad.

My cat likes to play with critters, and then if she winds up killing them, she'll eat em. .___.

Maybe that's what happened with your dog. Maybe he was just trying to mess around but he took things a little too far...
I hate speculating, but I don't think the dog would eat him for no reason.

One thing you have to bear in mind, don't punish her, she won't have any clue what she's being punished for. You can only chastise an animal for doing something if you catch them doing it and they can associate the peaction with the deed.

I'm sorry about your bird, but I suppose you'll always be careful from now on if you have different species of pets interacting.

Most small dog where breed to be ratters or chase small game out of hiding for the hunter. Chihuahua's from my understanding where more lap dogs, so it's more likely that it was play taken to far because your dog is still a puppy. Which is really more your fault for not watching them better. Even though your dog didn't show signs of wanting to kill the bird it is still a dog that was much larger then the bird. It's like leaving a naboor's friendly German Shepperd alone with your toddler for an hour, and then being upset with the dog for eating your toddler.

Myself having a dog understand this well. My dog shows no interest in our phone when we are around but when the phone rings and the dog is the only one in the room he will attack it, bite it and mall it till it stops ringing.
