Well, I'm not gonna deny it, but I'm not gonna sulk anymore about it. I am overweight. I'm not obese or anything, but at a pretty unhealthy weight. I'm 5"2 and weigh 147. I should be at 125-130. No one's really ripped on me for my weight, well, except for me. I don't like my stomach, I can't stand my thighs, and I want to be able to keep my jeans lower than my waist without seeing love handles.

Well, this summer, I want to lose it. I want to be healthier and I want to lose it the right way. My sophomore year, I weighed 160. I felt the same and I didn't eat a whole lot. Not so much to call it anorexia, but it sure wasn't healthy. I dropped to 140 by May of last year. I felt great losing all that weight and even had the confidence to wear a swimsuit top. Then my junior year, rolled around and I gained 7 pounds. I'm at 147 now.

Are there any tips as to how I can lose it healthily? I was thinking about going down to my Dad's and joining a gym over the summer. I would here, but I'm embarrassed to exercise in front of people I may know, especially since some snobby girls from my school go there almost everyday. That and my mom isn't the best motivator.

I also need some tips on eating healthy too and how you can stay motivated. It's really hard for me to keep up with something like that. But this is something I really really really want. I want to some back to school my senior year and wow people. I'm not really popular, well, not at all actually, but hell, I want to do this.

Oh and one more question... I have size 38D cup. If I lost all that weight, would my boobs lose sizes to them too. I think it'd be a little unproportional being thin with boobs like that >_o

Your boobs will shrink if you lose weight. Statistics are on my side when I say you're probably not wearing the right size anyway, as a massive 80% of women wear the wrong size; usually a back size that is too large (so it's loose or rides up at the back) and a cup size that too small (so you get cleavage even if you're wearing an underwired bra). From your weight and height, I'd say you're doing the same. A 38 back size is for a pretty sizable person, which you are not. You're more likely to be a 36F or G or similar.

You don't need to go to a gym to be able to find ways to excercise, that costs money anyway, and as you say, it can make you self conscious. Becoming more active throughout your day is one of the best ways of working towards a healthier body. Rather then just doing some intense exercise for half an hour 3 times a week and nothing different for the rest of the time. Walking more; getting off the bus a stop before you need to, taking the stairs instead of using the elevator, dancing in your room like you did when you were younger! Dancing along to exercise videos on Youtube is a nice cheaty way of learning some Zumba moves and so on, and that looks like a whole lot of fun!

What kind of stuff do you eat now? Do you eat breakfast? Do you drink plenty of water?

I agree with jelly. I'm a bit taller than you (by like an inch) and a little heavier, and I'm a very full 34DD bra size. I'd definitely go get yourself re-sized, especially when you start losing weight because breasts are mostly fat and they shrink when a woman loses fat weight.

If you like swimming, I would definitely suggest going swimming. And if you're very self conscious about your body in a bikini (especially your legs), like I am you can get surfer shorts and tops. :) I wear "board shorts" when I go swimming because I don't like my thighs. I wish I had more opportunities to swim though, it's excellent exercise.

Eating healthy is tough, but even little changes can help. Try snacking on carrots instead of chips (but be wary of dips, because those will add a bunch of fat right back). I like to use peanut butter and carrots.

>> Also I just found this article, and it may be worth a peek.

Swimming is the best exercise out there really, as it's completely non-impact, so there's no risk of damage to your joints, like you can end up with from jogging and so on. It does take longer to lose weight by swimming, but your focus should be on getting healthier anyway, not solely on that single aspect which is weight lose.

The weight/height thing confounds me a bit if I'm honest, I'm 5'6 and 145lb, and while I'd be happy to offload some stomach/ass I don't need to. And as you've already brought up...lose weight, bits shrink, I don't know what the hell bra size I am now  The one I'm wearing right now is the same size as Mon's, it's a new one and I really didn't know what size to get xD When I was at my heaviest at 156lb I was verging on an F cup, as I lost weight my E cups started fitting me again properly, then they started getting a bit empty in the top of the cup. I wear them now, they'd good and supportive still (I wear big ol' granny bras xD) but they have a habit of peeping out of the neckline of my tops because they come further up my chest as I have less volume of boob in them. So I bought 2 DD cup ones (soft cup, I HATE underwire with a passion, my boobs don't like being dictated to about how far apart they should be : /) and I get cleavage from both of these, so maybe I should have got Es. But you can guarantee that if I had they'd have been too big! I need custom-made bras in a 33DD and a half, kthx!

If you can alter your diet to exclude as much junk/processed food as possible, and include more fruit/veg, more wholegrain stuff and more water, and get more active throughout your day, you should notice a slow but steady improvement in your health and appearance, and the weight will start to come off too.

Just going back to what I mentioned in my other post; breakfast and water...2 really important things.
  • Never, ever skip breakfast
    Quick biology lesson:
Your metabolism controls how fast you burns calories. You have 2 metabolic rates, one for when you're awake, one for when you're asleep (do NOT confuse that with day and night, it's not the same). When you go to sleep, your metabolism slows right down, if it didn't, you'd be getting up twice every night for a meal...Now, here's the really important bit. You have to eat to kick your metabolism back into its awake and calorie-burning mode. Skip breakfast, and your metabolism will stay in sleep mode and hardly burn any calories at all, until you do eat.

So people who skip breakfast thinking that it's going to help them lose weight, they are actually making a massive mistake and doing themselves no favours at all.

  • Drink water steadily throughout the day
Did you know, that if you don't drink enough, you body will retain water? We all know we're supposed to drink 8 glasses of water/fluid/something per day, but hardly any of us manages that. Thing is, if we don't, our bodies hoard water because they're not getting enough, and that makes us heavier...during my pre-menstrual week I can gain 8lb through water retention, but I can prevent that from happening just from having a glass of water next to me and remembering to drink from it as the day goes on, refilling as I go.

Don't down a whole glass at once, your system can't absord that much fluid in one go, so you'll just pee most of it out again 20 minutes later.

I'm going to shut up now, as this turned into a massive wall of text

Hey there, just offering some support and good lucks and some things that helped me lose a good deal of weight (40 pounds all told) when I was in college:

TOTALLY seconding the water thing. Not only will it help stave off water retention weight, it will contribute to overall health.

Choosing healthy foods is very important, but when I was losing weight I found that trying to completely deprive myself of the "fun stuff" just made me want to cheat, and I felt all resentful. So instead, what I did was, I ate healthier foods (lots and lots of fresh fruits and veggies--they're yummy!) but also "ate what I wanted"--just much smaller amounts! I have learned that once I get the taste of cake or chocolate candy or a cheeseburger on my tongue with one or two bites, nothing much is added by many many more bites. So, I cut much smaller cake pieces, take a few less spoonfuls of pasta from the family bowl, and take only a small number of cheese doodles from the bag and then put the rest away. That way, I get the taste of the sweeter, heartier, and even "junkier" foods I like, without the big giant calorie intake! I would say, too, don't stop eating ANY meal, just eat less each time. Over time your system (and your psyche) will adjust to expect less.

Exercise doesn't have to involve a gym. I'm self-conscious, and instead of going to a gym I've taken to doing simple exercises every day at home (crunches, squats, leg stretches--I recommend looking up exercises focusing on whatever part(s) of your body you'd like to slim down or tone up! I'm working on my legs right now, myself--I have a tiny chest but proportionately big hips and thighs and I want to get that lower half in shape XD; ), and going for walks in the evenings after work. Walking around has given me an excuse to explore my neighborhood and listen to music for a half hour every day, and I've found it can be relaxing as well as make me feel like I've accomplished something healthy.

Different techniques work for different people, so the important thing is trying out tactics and keeping those that work while stopping those that don't. Good luck!
