An understandable policy. :) And what exactly did they have to do to earn their title? In my case they have to prove I can trust them more than others, and that they'll stick around.

They have to prove they aren't fair weather floozies and that they'll listen if I have a problem. I think it was Marilyn Monroe that said, "If you can't take me at my worst, you most certainly don't deserve me at my best." Also, they have to make an effort to hang out with me and get to know me. If you can't make time for me, why on earth would I call you a friend when your XBox is obviously more important than me?
Also, above pretty much all else, you have to prove to me you're genuinely kind. I cannot stand abrasive personalities that are always hating on people or bitching.

All understandable points. One would think that would be at least part of everyone's criteria you know? Sadly many of us allow people in who don't deserve to be there, and it causes problems.

Ah, well. I think we all do despite our better judgement. We all hold out a little hope for somebody who doesn't deserve it at least every once in awhile.

It's that whole wanting to fix them because they're so close to what we actually want thing. I've been on both sides of it. It sucks both ways... like a black hole.

That it does. That it does. The thing about that situation is that you could have everything you ever wanted if you'd only let the person be themselves.

If them being themselves would fit with your personality.

True. But still. If you let a person be themselves and yet you cannot be their friend, at least you've learned that and saved yourself the pain.

Indeed. And saved them as well. It's just being honest at that point you know?

Mhmm. At that point you need to admit to yourself that there's something vital about the person that you will never be able to change to suit your own personality and let them go.

Hey, I've had to do it before. And I've had others do it to me. I was mad at the time, but now I'd thank them. If it's not going to work, then it's not going to work, and someone has to accept it before something really bad happens.

At least you came to the realization eventually that it was good they left. Some people hold grudges for such a damned long time.
I've been uber pissed at people before, but eventually I realized that it was better for me to forgive them.

For sure.
On a note actually related to this thread, I must say I still feel like crap for never saying anything back to him. *sigh* It's pretty official that he lied to me, though, just to get in contact with me. Still. It's hard to justify to myself leaving somebody I loved like that hanging and basically telling them to f#*$ off through silence.

Well cut it out. You didn't do anything wrong. You don't want to be with the guy and he's not getting the hint after all of this time. It's his own damn fault.
You're a cool person. You shouldn't feel bad about doing something that was good for your own bloody mental health.

The bluntness of that made me laugh a little bit.
I guess it's just time to accept that, while I'd like an apology, and wish I could give a little bit of one on my own part, it's just not going to happen. My mind just keeps telling me that I should try and fix it all. I don't like broken things. Not at all.
