Honestly, it seems like friendship has just lost its meaning nowadays. I HAD a friend that I was close with, but once he started dating some girl who was jealous of me, he can't be friends with me. So much for friendship :/ I thought friendship was supposed to be strong, and you know, worth it. But seems like I might have been wrong on that one.

My friend that's basically my brother, he's been avoiding me and won't talk to me since Halloween just because he owes me 40 dollars :/ We've been tight since we went to Kindergarten! And now he's pulling this.

Don't get me wrong, I have a few good friends that still know what friendship is, but the more I look at it, the more it seems like friendship has lost its meaning :/

I hardly have what I can call 'friends' now a days, it's more along the lines of 'I know this person, we go to a movie or two once in a while, but they aren't really a friend'. Now that I look back on it, I don't even think I can call my high school friends, friends now.

I haven't spoken to them in probably a good four or five years not since the last time I wrote an actual snail mail letter to them -- none of them bothered to write back, either. The last time I talked to any of them through AIM, I felt more ashamed to call them friend then anything -- not because of what they said, but how they were acting.

If they can't take a small amount of time to at least contact you then sadly you may never have been as good of friends as you thought. When I make friends I am genuine towards them and very upfront, if they don't like what I got cooking then it's not worth a friendship.
I find that honesty is the best policy with friends, so if something is bothering you make it known to them and work something out. If they can't cooperate then it's not worth the effort, they should at least consider your feelings.

For the OP, I have to say your guy friend needs a talking to. If his girlfriend is the one causing the problems then make sure he knows that it bothers you. If she is telling him to not hang out with you and he just listens without a fight with her then he's not doing his part and it's an unhealthy relationship. If he doesn't do anything about it after you tell him it's an issue then he's not worth it as a friend. His girlfriend should be able to understand and work things out if she truly cares about his happiness. (she's being controlling, and he won't want to heat that)
As for you friend with the money, at all costs find time to talk to him. (be extreme if you need to, let his parents know or something) but talk to him first if possible. Tell him in a joking matter, "I'm almost starting to think you're avoiding me."

/end rant

I've been through a lot, but I find that the friends I made in high school are still my friends...and if I needed help they would try their best to help me. I hope you guys can solve what needs fixing, and you find really good friends.

That sounds really shitty. I think people nowadays just think they can just leave and come back without having any conscious of what they did at all. It makes me really upset because I only have close friends, then you leave, come back and want me to pretend everything is okay, fine and dandy. Hell no, I will be upset and most likely won't talk to you. I had a penpal since 13, in fucking Middle School, we kind of fell for one another and we kept at it until I turned 18. He completely tried to erase me out of his life, got a gf and just pretend I never existed. I saw his fb. He fucking deleted me off facebook. Cheap fucking move to tell me you don't want me out of your life, also blocked me. I'm totally hung on this because I can say that I did love this person and yet it made me feel as if all those letters he wrote to me, those poems and the things he shared with me are lies. Everything just seems like lies. I fucking hate people like that. It's why it's so hard to communicate with me and I do tend to push people away. Dx Fucking people, man.

It hasn't but I think it could be harder these days to find true friends that honestly cares about you.
I think you just need to look for new friends because I wouldn't tolerate such horrible actions like that.

Friendship doesn't mean much in high school.
All of the friends I had in middle school ditched me in high school, except for a few who ditched me half-way through.
I only talk to *one* friend from high school, and neither of us like each other that much anymore. We sortof just talk to laugh about the dumb shit we used to do once in a while, and then we hug and don't speak again for 6 months.
Friendship means as little or as much as BOTH of the people in the friendship want it to.
But if one doesn't want it to mean much, then it doesn't mean much to THEM. And if you're seeking something different, like an important meaningful friendship, they obviously aren't going to just up and change what they want...if they were going to, they'd have put the 100% into the friendship at the start.

I'd just trying to find some new friends, yo. I moved and started pretty much a whole new life.
And now, while I'm not that close to many of these people, and I think most of them are incredibly selfish and hedonistic (which coming from me is saying something)...There are a few gems in the rough who I DO genuinely care about and know they care for me too, and when or if they don't...I shrug my shoulders, and find someone else to focus my attention on.

Yeah, exactly! When I think of it, friends used to be so much more than that. And now it's like that's what friendship means.

Thanks :) And I do agree. The one that owes me money, I have told him "It feels like you're just avoiding me, and it's starting to bother me." And he got mad at me once for asking me for my money. So now I don't even think we're friends, I have no idea because he won't talk to me.

Holy crap! You know my ex? haha, jk. But that's basically what my ex did. He was the sweetest person alive to me, but then I found out it was all a lie. He was playing and using me since.. ever :/ And once I found out. He didn't want me around anymore.

Sometimes its just difficult. I think I find an actualy friend that cares, but sooner or later their true colors show and friendship seems to have lost its meaning.

That's true, too. I'm trying to start new. I'm gonna have a new look, gonna get some new friends (if I can manage that haha, I'm shy usually). Just gonna start fresh with my life, make better choices and everything.

Nobody knows what the word Friend means anymore, hell i'm not even sure if i've ever really had a true friend...
My boyfriend is the only person i've been able to tell everything to, chicks i been friends with and whatnot, they just nothing but backstabbing liars and stuff. I really don't even bother being friends with people anymore really. there's only one person i'm still friends with, but I don't hang with her no more or anything. I'm always hanging with my boyfriend, I can talk to him about anything.

That's good you have your boyfriend to talk to. Everyone needs someone to talk to. But that's exactly what I'm saying. Friendship used to be so much more than what it is now.
