So I just started taking anti depressants, for various reasons. My doctor told me that I would be feeling side effects like nausea, drowsiness, and other things like that. So she had my start with a quarter of the pill at night before bed (last night), within 10-15 minutes after taking the pill I was out cold. This morning I had an extremely hard time waking up and focusing to get my morning routine done. It was about an hour after I woke up before I was awake and functional (I barely made it to class). Would the pill (as small a portion I'm taking at this point) cause this that fast or hard? I can't ask my doctor, otherwise I would go to her.

When you got the pills from your pharmacy, you should have gotten a looooooong print-out sheet that listed all the side effects, possible dangers, and information about how the drug would influence you. Do you still have that on hand? If not, you can always just go to your pharmacy and ask the pharmacist for a short consultation. They can answer all of your questions better than a doctor could.

You can also Google the medical pamphlet from the company.
It depends on the drug and it can take forever for it to kick in and for the side effects to subside, if ever.
Most dangerous one is Paroxetine though.

I always Google side effects of medications and long term risks before taking anything. Doctors don't always tell you true information either.

I say go down to the pharmacy and just ask to talk to the pharmacist for a minute! They'll be happy to chat with you. They'll be able to tell you if what you're experiencing are the side effects.

Also, if you're not liking the way it makes you feel you might also want to consider talking to your doctor to have something else prescribed!

They will do that at first...which is why most people need to build up to a dose, including myself. I was having such varied reactions to things my psych did a test that showed I lack some of the enzymes that my body needs to make use of some of these meds. Most of the time, the side effects DO improve.
