Moving/Long Drive Tips

Well I don't particularly know where to put this, so if it needs to be moved that is fine.

Well my husband and myself currently got the chance to move! The catch? It's out of state and between 5-7 hours there. We never had to move without help (we are both 21 and just recently got married.) and the other catch is that we move on September 15, 2015... 7ish weeks away.

I have never really been anywhere outside of west Texas area. I don't know what to pack for the ride there and how to pack in general.

Any tips?

Best thing I can recommend is a cooler with some food. If you prepare lunch ahead of time you can stop at a rest area instead of stopping at a fast food place, which gets expensive.

As for "How to pack". I'd recommend playing some extra games of tetris :)
(Tetris helps your mind see how things can fit together)

Make sure you pack some essentials to take in the car with you, toileties, loo roll (you'll be glad of it if you stop at public toilets as they often have no loo rolls left), hand towel, bath towels, chargers, food and drink, pillows and some bedding/sleeping bags incase you get there too late to do alot of unpacking.

Or if you've in a van/truck whatever you want to call it. Make sure it's the last box you pack so you can get it out easy.

Label your boxes so you know what goes where ie: kitchen, living room, bedroom.

the first thing you pack are all of your essential documents birth certificate marriage license passport any ID's that you do not carry with you daily and if you have a lock box that's the best place to keep them. and they should be packed in your pile of things that you need to take with you.

and basically you're going to have three piles:
items you need
items you want to take with you
and the rest of your stuff

the items you need are the items that you're going to need when you first set up your new home like clean sheets a place setting for yourself and your husband. some clothing if you're going there for work any kind of medication any supplies that you need as soon as you arrive let's see there's a lot more but I can't think of it right now

and the things that you want to have with you are the things that you use daily and this is how I do it
as I'm getting ready for a moved and I'm a military brat, military member, military family so basically I'm a military lifer/ and I've moved a lot I'll take about a week or two to organize and does that go through my daily routine I post notes on my phone what I've used it like I'm a diabetic so I know my meds have to come with me and my refill go in my things I need pile and everything I use daily if I have extra of it I put it in the pile that I'm taking you with me you know like your toothbrush holder that will you pack your toothbrush any kind of clothing that always wear as I wash it I pac it and that way the things that you always use you have with you

and don't over pack the things that you need to take but a big tip is if you love the stuff bring it with you because mover steel and that's just the fact and if you do go ahead and put in for a claim you will get money back but you're not going to get enough money back and if its sentimental its a replaceable once I get on the computer I'll be able to do a lot better this is a huge run on sentence because I'm using audio tape so please forgive the typos I hope you and your husband have a smooth move trust me that your first move it won't be but don't stress about it that makes moving all the worst things are going to get messed up just start off with that is your mantra everytime you look for something you're not going to be able to find it but if you do take a couple of weeks two separate into three piles like basically if you have a spare bedroom or a bathroom a second bath and that you don't use that's where I always put my things I'm taking with me payal and when the movers come my animals go in that room and they get locked in there with a big sign and I mean big like a huge poster board sign in dark red ink Sharpie magic marker do not enter and when the movers come in you walked in by the room and you tell them do not enter the first thing you pack are all of your essential document birth certificate marriage license sports any ideas do not carry with bailey and if you have a lock box that's the best place to keep them and they should be packed in a pile of things that you need to take with you and basically you're going to have 3

I did you want to take with you and the rest of your stuff the items you need idea I'd on my picture going to need when you first set of your new home like clean sheets of place settings for yourself and your husband how some clothing if you're going there for work any kind of medication any supplies that you need as soon as you arrive I see there's a lot more but I can think of it right now and the things that you want to have with you are the things that you use daily and this is how I do it as I'm getting ready for move am a military brat military member military family so basically a military life and I've moved a lot I'll take about a week or 2 to organize and as I go through my daily routine I posted notes on my phone whatever you say like I'm a diabetic so I know my meds have to come with me and my refills go in my things I need ohio and everything I use daily if I have extra of it I put in the pile that I'm taking you with me you know like your toothbrush holder that way you pack your toothbrush any kind of clothing that I always wear as I wash it I folded attack and that way the things that you always use you have with you and don't over pack the things that you need to take but a big kisses if you love this to bring it with you because movers deal just that if you do go ahead and put in for claim you will get money back but your not going to get enough my back and if it's sentimental if your place once I get on the computer I'll be able to do a lot better this is drama on sentences I'm using audio time please forgive the typos I hope you your husband have moved is just meet you first move it won't be a don't stress about it that makes moving all the worst things going to get messed up just start off with that is your mom to everytime we look for something you're not going to be able to find it but if you do take a couple weeks to separate in just a while lake basically if you have a spare bedroom laura back from the second back in that you don't use that's why we put my things I'm taking with and when the movers come my animals going now and get locked in with a big sign and I mean big like a huge poster board sign that says do not enter

Hahaha I love Tetris!
Somehow I feel like moving won't be as fun though xD

I've never really moved without my parents, so it's all new to me xD

We are keeping inventory of all the boxes by numbering and labeling them... But we haven't decided on what we need at the beginning yet 0.0

Hahaha I get the gist :) thank you very much!

We don't really have movers here, we just rent a truck and they have a drop off point in the town we are moving to, so it is all us.
I really appreciate the help!

I'm kind of nervous though.
Most of the trip will be driving out of Texas, in places I'm not familiar with. I want to make as little stops as possible unless it's a well lit and popular area. Which my husband thinks is smart but not always going to happen. I'm just a worry wart and so I'm trying not to let him know to much about what I'm worrying about xD

We actually were advised by a friend to keep a "Moving Binder" with us that has the inventory, to do lists, receipts, budget, important documents, and etc. so we started one.

I think the hardest part is going to be the packing. We have a bunch of stuff to sell and give away.

hummy 07-26-2015 09:15 PM

the packing is going to be easy, if you don't stress
a moving binder is a good idea, the only thing is
you can't lock it up for protection.

you could start packing up holiday items.
you won't be needing them for the time being
if you do a little each day you'll be on top of it quickly

but doing some research and mapping out your trip is really smart
you'll find places you will want to stop and that really helps with the drive
not driving too long each day is a good idea, too, helps with the stress.
do you already have a new place you are moving into when you arrive?
do you have any pets? mine are a challenge to move with [twitch]

look at it all as an adventure, after the BIG one, getting married <3
it will be fun if you prepare for the move and we'll all help =3

I think I'll pack up all my art things...
We don't really have much to be honest.
Our biggest item is our bed.

I think I will do some research.
I'm suppose to drive the first 2-3 hours...
Well until it gets dark.
I shouldn't legally be able to drive at night.
I can't see [shock]

We will be staying in his Grandparent's extra room.
Until we both get jobs and a place of our own.
They say it probably won't take more than three months.
All our stuff we won't use daily will go to storage.

We gave my parents our kitten.
His granddad is allergic to kitties.
Which makes me sad.
He is the sweetest little kitty.

Hopefully we can get a place that will allow cats.
We have to get a rent house though.
It's so small that they don't have apartments at all.
