It's been three years now. I have to take deep breaths to be able to breathe. For other people, breathing comes naturally but I feel like I have to tell myself to breathe. The problem is when I do take a deep breath, it only lasts for maximum 2 seconds so I never get enough air. I've gotten everyday this week. I don't know if it's because of the hot weather. I think I have asthma but my parents won't bring me to a clinic. My mom says that peoplpe only have asthma when they make big rasping noises. But I don't think it's normal that I have to breathe like this. Imagine when I'm older, how will I be able to live? And I never smoke. It'd be great if you have some advice you could give me. And I remember that my last X-rays of my lungs turned out fine. I don't know what I have but it's scary because I can't breathe in a lot so I keep finding myself taking in "deep" breaths to satisfy my loss of oxygen.
And it really hurts my chest when I do that too much. :(

Go see a doctor.
There's not much else that anyone on here can tell you. You potentially have a medical problem that needs to be accessed by a professional. If your parents refuse to take you into a clinic, then talk to your school nurse. She can send a note home, or contact a doctor for you.

Okay thanks. <3 I'm kind of skeptical about going to see her because once I had a rash on my face and she sent me to a hospital saying it might be blood cancer. I'm also kind of scared of her. I thought about going to her but I never really set my mind to it. I will try to go to a clinic myself or something.

I must admit that when I read the subject line of your topic, my initial thought was, "If they can't breathe, why aren't they in the hospital?"
While users here can give suggestions and share similar experiences, you really should seek out a doctor. Online advice isn't clinical help, and that's what you need if you have trouble breathing.
It sucks that your parents seem disinclined to help take care of you. Try to get to one yourself ASAP and explain your symptoms and concerns.

Have you considered asthma?
I know it's proberly not likley seeing as you've had x-rays but it might be worth having a look. Or have you been very stressed for the last three years? that can lead to breathing troubles.
Anemia (sp?) in one of its more serious forms can aslo cause shrot breath etc. It also induced lethargy if you've been feeling tired sometimes?
As Knerd said, go to the doctors again, or try a different one if you don't think much of your current one.
I hope you find an answer to you problem soon.

You do not have to make a 'raspy' noise to have asthma. I have asthma, I've had it since I was younger and came down with a chest infection, and when it becomes hard to breath I dont make a raspy noise unless its a really bad attack.
A good doctor will certainly listen to your chest, ask you questions about when your breathless and will most likely get you to blow into a peak flow metre.
You must get a second opinion, you must see a doctor.
I should add, I did NOT have to have an X-ray to be diagnosed with asthma either.

Okay thank you guys so much! I will try to go see a doctor soon. I will wait until my grandma comes back for vacation in 2 weeks and I will go with her. My parents are too busy and tired and they think it's a psycholgical problem because I can't make deep breaths when I sleep and the next morning I'm still alive, so they don't think it's a big deal. today it was a lot less hotter and it was a lot more easier to breathe. I think the asthma pump will help me especially when I feel stressed out. When I feel like I didn't get enough air, I panic in my brain and since I'm impatient I feel like I need to get a lot of air quickly.
And I think stress might be another factor. The last 3 years, my dad changed me schools. From a really low in ranking (100th) ghetto secondary to a private only girls (11th in my province) school. My dad is used to me getting excellence awars all the time and every year now, I try my hardest but I obviously can't get them with work and everything. In my other topic, I explained about my parents forcing me to work at a very low pay and everything.
Thank you!

If you can't get your parents to take you to a doctor then the next time it happens, go to your bathroom and turn your bathtub water up to all the way hot and let the room fill up with steam, once the bathroom is filled with steam sit on your toliet or counter and start to take a few deep breaths and slowly start making your breaths shorter until your breathing is back to normal, this works in most cases. That helps stemulate your breathing if you have Asthma and minor lung infections, if this doesn't help then go see a doctor because it could be serious. :3
I had to do this when I had bad ashthma, but my mine has gotten way better sence then, I don't eve have to carry around an inhailer anymore :33

Okay I will definitely try that! Thank you so much! I will get to see a doctor before school starts. My grandmother will bring me. I'm glad your asthma case is better! My breathing has been a lot better since it hasn't been extremely hot.

demand that you are taken to the doctor ASAP. Or fake a different disease in order to get there (i think it's better than faking sick for anything else because in the end it's still for your health). Yeah my ideas are probably bad, but it's the best i can think of.

You should really go to an allergist or ear, nose and throat doctor. It sounds like you do have asthma. I went to get allergy tested and they made me take a lung capacity test, to see if my lungs were restricted--hence, asthma.
I have healthy lungs, but any smoker or asthmatic would have a decreased lung capacity, like you're talking about.
Wheezing is not the only sign of asthma.

That definitely sounds like it could be asthma. I just got diagnosed with asthma at the beginning of summer, and it never occured to me i couldve had it, before! But now all the breathing problems i've had the past 2 years or so make sense. I didn't really consider it serious since it didn't last too long, i thought i was just having allergy attacks or something. And i dont make "raspy noises" either. But i had that feeling on certain days where it felt like I wasn't getting enough air. And i still got it on a few days that the weather was humid, which sounds like it happened to you too.
My doctor found out cause I took uhm.. a breathing test thing where you have to take a DEEP breath and blow fast into a tube. i didnt get very good results, and they gave me a uhm... whatchacallit. Nebulizer sort of treatment/medicine, i did it again and the results were a bit better. so i've been on asthma medication ever since. i actually have to go next week to take a followup test, i hope i do well!
But definitely try to get to the doctor ASAP. Asthma can be a VERY serious thing, and it's unfortunate your parents aren't taking it more seriously. :< I wish you the best, and the shower/steam treatment is a great idea! I need to remember it myself!! *many hugs*

See a doctor because it sounds like you have some symptoms of asthma.
If your parents won;t listen and won't take you, then try researching information about to use to convince them to let you see a doctor about it.
I've had it since around 7th grade (In 10th grade now) and I'd have small attacks during PE and my mom still wouldn't take me to the doctor :/
So it may take time before they take you.

you could very likely have asthma. you dont have to sound raspy or anything. i have asthma myself, and often have the same symptoms you described. sometimes if you arent treated, your lungs can become permanently damaged, even though you can still breathe with difficulty. you need to go into a clinic and have it checked.

You don't necessarily have raspy sounding breathing with asthma, I can't believe your parents won't take you to a doctor, if one of my kids had trouble breathing they would be in the emergency room. You definitely need to find a way to get to the doctor, I bet you do have asthma.

- You really should go get that checked out.
And tell your mom that asthma doesn't always mean big rasping noises. I have it and normally it's only a light wheezing unless it's really really bad. Just thinking about it now, I can feel a tightness in my chest and a very minor attack coming on. But not being able to take deep breaths is a completely seperate issue and could be a serious condition of some sort. Go get it checked out anyways.

I also used to have difficulty breathing. My results were normal and stuff.
Even went to different people.
My uncle finally said "Sweetie it's stress."
:D
The sad thing is. I'll never get out of this cycle anymore so I will always have shallow breathing and difficulties.
I'm thinking of ways but... Bleh. Doubt it. I'm still going to school and thats a whole lot of stress. It all started when I went to college.
^^;
But I suggest you do see experts.
