So this issue probably seems like absolutely nothing for most of you but for me it's very, very odd.

For the past few years at least, I have been able to fall asleep within about 10 minutes of attempting to go to sleep, needed 10-12 hours of sleep a night to feel rested, and I still felt tired most of the time anyway.

But then, a few weeks ago, something very strange happened.
It now takes me at least 30 minutes to an hour to be able to properly fall asleep, and I don't ever really get tired at night anymore. If I don't get enough sleep I'll still feel exhausted, but I can still easily stay up all night. Even if I am completely exhausted, it still takes me a good half hour to fall asleep. But this only happens at night... if I try to go back to sleep if I've woken up too early or take a mid-day nap, I'm just fine. O_o''

For example, the other day I woke up at about 11:00 and got five hours of sleep the night before... and still stayed up until 5:30 AM. For me, that is completely abnormal. I should have fallen asleep about 10:00 PM. I've NEVER been able to function off of five hours of sleep!

This might be because I just got off Seroquel, which is sometimes prescribed as a sleeping pill (I wasn't taking it as a sleeping pill, though...). But I went off Seroquel before for about a month and in that month my sleep went unaffected. It wasn't until I got off it for good (yay!) that this started happening.
Also, I'm bipolar, so it could be that. I'm skeptical about that because I've had it for a few years now, and I've never gone through anything like this.
Stress isn't really a factor, either. Excluding the last 2-3 days, I've been way less stressed than usual.

So... ideas? This isn't really causing any problems yet, it's just a nuisance. But if I end up going back to a regular school (keep your fingers crossed for online school) then it will probably start causing me some issues what with not getting enough sleep and all.

(I'm sorry that it's a wall o' text and that it may possibly be horribly confusing. If you need me to clarify anything, I will.)

Hmm, I've got the same problem, my insomnia was going on for months, almost years actually. It got so bad that I was crying for no apparent reason. I talked with my doctor, and was told what to do and what not to.

So, I would try talking to your doctor again, see if he/she can do anything to help you out. Not getting enough sleep is always completely annoying and makes you (at least it did me) want to pull your hair out.

I wish you luck not only in treating the sleeping problem, but with your school adventures as well^^

Thanks icey.
I don't want to go see a doctor, nor do I want to admit that insomnia might be the problem. Hah. I guess if it gets too bad, I'll have to go.

idk, it takes me an hour to fall asleep, so that's normal for me

I think it might've been that you're not taking the medication anymore so your body is functioning differently... medicine has weird side effect o.O

Maybe talk to your doctor or trying taking sleeping pills...

What's normal for one person isn't normal for another though. Like, my normal body temperature is around 97 degrees. Heh.

I thought that at first too, but wouldn't it have happened the first time I stopped taking the pills? I mean... I've been on and off of those since February of last year and.. nothing.

Noo! Sleeping pills will mess me up even more! >_<
Thanks for the advice.

Sounds like me. Nothing you can really do but just wait it out. But if it gets to bad talk to a doctor about it. I sound like a commercial but it is true.

I can sleep pretty easy most nights and I still stay up even if I work the next day early. I normally can get five hours of sleep and still be slightly ok most of the day.

The problem I have is I can't wake up, even after a good sleep. I just hate waking up and getting out of bed.

I have both problems, I can't wake up and I have problems getting to sleep. I just hate waking up in the morning, I'm so not a morning person. I think maybe just try to keep to a routine to let your body know that you are going to sleep. I try to keep to a routine and I think it helps. So like at a certain time I try to brush my teeth, then I get a drink of water to take up to bed with me and change into my jammies and then I read for a little bit and then hopefully I full asleep if the plan works. I just think if you don't get to sleep like you usually do you do need to talk to your doctor. So maybe after a week of trying to work out if you can sleep maybe make an appointment. I hope you work things out with your sleep because sleep is very important to have in my books so apart from that I don't have any more real advice so goodluck!

My circadian rhythm wobbled all over the place a couple of months ago, and I'm just getting used to the changes now. That happened shortly after I turned seventeen (just as I was coming off Prozac, actually, but I doubt the two are related in the long-term, though that did WAKE ME UP AT TWO EVERY SINGLE MORNING @[email protected]), so I guess, if it happens to an extreme, it's different for everybody.

I have had a couple of restless nights in the last week or so now. x: I don't know whether this'll help you, but I'll tell you what helps me to get to sleep. :3 There's the typical hot drink, warm bath, right temperature, breathing exercises, whathaveyou, but what I find works best is to put the radio on very quietly. I listen to a classical station, very soothing late at night - I swear they do that just for classical-loving insomniacs xD - and it gives me something to focus on other than my thoughts or thinking about my restlessness, and then I'm out like a light! Or putting a cold flannel over my eyes.

Things have also been a bit better for me since I brought a light therapy light and use it first thing in the mornings, but that's an expensive option. It just seems to help me get past that rotten afternoon slump and be more constant into the evening so I'm not bouncing off the walls by eleven. xD;;

My friend finds going for a walk or a run helps, while it's light out, to tire you out and hopefully make dropping off easier...

^ ^; I hope you sleep well soon!

are you still taking your bipolar medication regularly? have you been given a stronger dosage?

it could also be that you've changed up your daily schedule a bit & are not as active as you normally were. try finding something to do during the day that would tire you out--cleaning, exercising....etc.

@Chaitealatte-- Things like music tend to keep me awake more than put me to sleep. It feels like while my brain should be shutting off, it's being kept on. I like silence and darkness.
Thank yous. <3

@organique-- I'm taking it regularly. They just put me on a new one, so they're slowly increasing the dosage to what it should be.
Oh god. Anything but that! Hah.
Even though I'm staying home now, I'm not really much less active. Hah, I was never active to begin with.

I suffer from 2 separate sleep disorders so I know how rough lack of sleep can be. I hope you can resolve your issue. Unfortunately I can't really help out on that one. Best of luck to you.

I know how you feel. Around the end of middle school I developed insomnia and have had problems with it since. When I'm happy or really busy with life, it sometimes fades away for awhile, but it always comes back. It's so frustrating that I can lie in bed all night and not be able to fall asleep, but can totally pass out at any time during the day.
I understand about needing around ten hours of sleep too. I was always one of those people who had to sleep a lot and then was still tired(the doctors found out why though, and fixed it).

Well, I can give you all the things everyone made me try: drink warm milk, drink sleepytime tea, etc. But none of them ever worked. I think the best I can do is tell you to talk to your doctor about it, and try to find a solution with him/her.
I hope you figure something out and are able to sleep well again soon.

Whoa, I'd forgotten about this thread.
Thanks, guys.
The issue appears to have resolved itself, though.
I guess I'll keep the thread around to re-use in the event of a new problem, though.
