Ever bought a house?

So... I just had an offer on a house accepted. So now I'm sitting here shaking like a chihuahua while I think about what on earth I'm going to do.

Has anyone ever bought a house? What was it like for you? If you haven't how do you imagine it would feel?

I, personally, have never bought a house of my own,
But my friend recently got married and bought a house.
She'd only been married for two months and they already have their own house!

Congrats on having the offer accepted! :D
That's great. :) I think for her, she felt relieved, but she'd been used to living in a house for most of her life, so she knew right away that she'd never live in an apartment

Congratulations poet!
Is it the how she really liked?

The Wandering Poet 03-08-2018 02:49 PM

Yes hummy, it's in a wonderful spot and only 10 or so minutes from work!

hummy 03-09-2018 04:25 AM

Nope. Not I. Never even seriously considered doing such what with all the expenses. Escrow fees. Bank fees. Lender fees. Fee fees. Closing costs. Mortgage payments. Homeowners insurance. Property taxes i.e. renting land from the government. No thanks, man. I've had enough hard times already.

But I wish happiness and health to you and your significant other.

Advice: Get insurance sorted as soon as you can. Then if anything happens you're covered.

Should I ever be in a possition of getting a property (older property, not a new build) I'm gonna be pretty chillaxed about it, unlike other first time buyers, as I know what goes down with a property puchase. In an ideal world I'd like to be able to put a lump sum down on a property so I could have a smaller mortgage or no mortgage at all if Help To Buy and no Stamp Duty for first time buyers is still around.

The Wandering Poet 03-09-2018 10:04 PM

That is good advice. I'll definitely be getting insurance as soon as I can. Working out the finer details like inspections and such now.

We bought a house last year. I cried when I signed the paperwork - sooo much money you are committing too! But it's nice to have a place that we can call home. It isn't in a crowded, tiny apartment. It's a place that we can invest in and live comfortably as we grow together! Congratulations on your home!

The Wandering Poet 03-17-2018 08:32 PM

Maria - Yeah there's a lot of paperwork I feel like I've been signing for days. Still signing stuff at this point. BUT the inspection came up with only small issues here and there (some which the seller needs to agree to repair before we close like wires being exposed). So just a bit longer and the house will be mine :D

That's great poet, just a good electrician should take care of that.

The Wandering Poet 03-18-2018 01:25 AM

Yeah. I am definitely looking forward to it. Once I'm settled I'd love to have some Menewshans come visit me owo

Already got one that might come paint with my partner sometime :D

hummy 03-19-2018 04:27 AM

As in painting the house or making art?

The Wandering Poet 03-19-2018 04:43 AM

Nah. Somebody to help her use up the bajillion canvases she owns.

hummy 03-19-2018 10:39 PM

Oh I see. Then y'all should have an art sale.

The Wandering Poet 03-20-2018 12:55 AM

That would be really cool to do. But don't you have to have a license for that?

hummy 03-20-2018 10:45 PM

It all depends on what your city ordinance say.

The Wandering Poet 03-21-2018 01:39 AM

Do you know the best way to check that?

hummy 03-21-2018 04:11 AM

Call your chamber of commerce

I bought a house back in 2011 and I was absolutely terrified and for good reason it turned out that the person that I bought the house with screwed me over big-time when they decided that they no longer wanted to live there! I honestly hope your experience is much better than mine was! To be quite honest I miss being a home owner...it felt secure somehow.

The Wandering Poet 03-29-2018 01:51 AM

I'm fortunate in that the reason they want to move has nothing to do with the house. Though it does need some TLC and electrical work done. These number of holes in the walls says they had boys.

hummy 03-29-2018 03:35 AM

How are things going? Are you in escrow yet?

The Wandering Poet 03-29-2018 02:15 PM

Not yet. They're running into a few complications at the moment.

hummy 03-29-2018 10:55 PM

Hope it works out

The Wandering Poet 03-30-2018 05:28 PM

Me too. But I'm doing everything I can to make sure I get it :)
