I wasn't a member of the site but judging by the comments on that thread, a lot of people really felt like they'd found a home there, so I'm sorry for their loss.

Tentacl was made by those who own Gaia right? So was Recolor.me?
Hmm I didn't like the manner of social networking on Tentacl, I prefer the ole forums, but the avatars were impressive. It's sad how many avi sites go down for good. Lilifactory still isn't back up

Tentacl was supposed to be the more adult version of Gaia but it never lived up to the hype it was getting. I did go and have a look a few times due to all the advertising of it there was but it just didn't have the same appeal.



Recolour is run by the guy who owns Tektek Dandilioness.

I was never on this site, so can't really give an opinion (never knew it even existed, lol), I will give them credit for nice avatar art, the fact their with Gaia though.......

If it's a site that's part of Gaia then there's the problem. It wasn't going to get anywhere and I bet that after it hit a certain user threshold then they'd probably be selling out that site as well.

Also, it has the worst name for a website.

I only ever thought of it as a disorganized jumble of porn spam. At least it was when we discussed it in the staff forums.

It may have become something else, but I wouldn't know. :B

never heard of this site but i know how it must feel to see it go... i felt so so bad when Fb's SIMS social was closed down...
I don't really understand why such places can't simply be abandoned rather than shut down? i mean couldn't it be a site that doesn't get updates and new stuff yet still remain open as a forum for friends and to play with the stuff already out???

I know I should have given more info when I made the thread, for those unaware of Tentacl, but, yeah, lazeh

Tentacl's owned by Gaia, and is basically Gaia but 18+. There was enormous hype and fuss about it, a lot of people didn't think the rumours of an 18+ site could possibly be true, while some weren't suprised at this possibility at all, some said Gaia itself was becoming 18+, all kinds of stories where flying around. Tentacl seemed to open pretty quickly to be honest, suddenly, amidst all the hearsay BAM, it opened. It was just full of porn at first, right there on the front page they got that under control though so I heard.

But now, it's going! Not even eight months since it opened, kind of mind-blowing really. I'd love to know the details behind it all, but maybe this is how that scary CEO guy operates, ruthlessly cutting out anything new that isn't generating the predicted income, or something along those lines.

Yeah, 8 months before closing is a ridiculous business model. As it appears to be about money, I'm surprised there was no obvious attempt to sell it. I don't see why hanging on to the property rights of it would be important to them or anything.

The content was blurgh, but I do appreciate the frustration the users are feeling of losing a site without the age restrictions they were familiar with on Gaia and such.

Money would still have to be spent on keeping up open though - the servers, that sort of thing.

I got harassed by some guy on there on my skype who was from there[he was a decent person at first]
because I wouldn't cam with him
and he would make me feel like an awful person just because I am shy.

he literally acted bi-polar. One minute he made me feel like crap
the next he was laughing and making jokes.

So I am glad it is closing >~<

I only joined for the items.
and then found out what kind of place it was and left especially after getting like 20 pm's a day
with guys flirting with me. it was really annoying -~-

Saw a bunch of threads about Tentacl shutting down on Recolor. XD

I remember browsing it for a bit back when the topic about Tentacl first appeared somewhere on Mene, and while I liked the avatars, it didn't seem like my sort of thing so I didn't bother with it. Kinda glad I hadn't now; only eight months and it's gone already. O_o

I thought Recolor.me was made by the person who made tektek.org? As far as I know they are not affiliated with gaia beyond being a gaia user.

As for tentacl I was an active memeber there for a month or two. There were many glitches and irritating things about it. I figured from the very start it would not last long. Though I did think it would make it to at least a year. Sucks for people who spent real money on the site. As well as those who've been really active there.
