Boys aren't really encouraged to be studious, especially around their friends.

That's a sad truth.
The encouragement should at least be coming from home, though D8

My mum tried with my brother but he'd just lie and tell her he'd done his coursework when he hadn't.
They're always doing studies and things that says girls are doing better than boys but boys don't seems to have much interest in school work. There are other things they find better.

Boys are built to be more physically active than girls, so being cramped in the classroom isn't very stimulating. I wish my brother was one of the guys that did okay even when having to be in an environment like that. I'm not expecting him to to fantastic, I'm just hoping he'll pass and be happy and graduate from high school >_<

My brother treated high school like a joke, it was just somewhere to mess about with his mates. Then he went to college and that was the same, he quit and then figured out he'd made a mistake when it was too late. Now he's doing all right but my parents have had to bale him out loads and his credit its appalling and he's only 21.

Yup, they figure it out too late.
My husband's Dad paid for his college tuition, so he wanted to do the same for his son.
His son lasted about 2 years, taking fluff courses, and when my hubby asked him about it, his son basically told him to go stuff it, that he didn't want him telling him what to do, and he didn't want his money. He wanted to quit school and be a truck driver.
So my husband said "OK. I love you, but you're on your own."
After the truck driving didn't turn out, the stepson decided that he wanted to be a nurse.
My hubby said "Well, good luck!" So the stepson had to do it all himself... take out loans, work a job on the side, etc. Because he knew he had all these loans and stuff to pay back, he *had* to stick it out. Now he's an Emergency Room nurse at the Mayo Clinic hospital.
We're very proud of him....he did it all himself.

My brother didn't get out of 6th form but he's a sky engineer now so he's working a lot and making some money. Self employed but with a franchise van and he has to do a certain amount of work for his company but he's responsible for tax and everything but they provide his tools and equipment and he's allowed to do private work when he doesn't have anything for them.
I've been a little awol today, been at Grandma's with mum sorting things out and then the vicar came round to ask about what Grandma was like and what hymns we wanted at the funeral.

Picking hymns can be either hard or easy.
We knew which ones we would like. Maybe that's the best way to do it.

We picked the lord is my shepherd because Grandma has a plaque thing with the Psalm that has that wrote on it in her living room and we also picked All things bright and beautiful because that was the one she always got into the most when she went to church. It's going to be at our old church that I went to as a kid with her and my mum and dad got married there.
My cousin is coming down tomorrow for a bit, he's finding it hard to handle. He's the oldest of her Grandchildren and when he was 3 months old his mum went back to work so from then till he started school he was with my mum and Grandma from 5am to 5pm every day. even when his little sister was born and his mum stayed off work with her he still went to my Grandma because his mum said she couldn't handle two. He doesn't really have any bonds at all with his parents and he always rang every Christmas day and her birthday every year to say happy Christmas or happy birthday.
I'm starting to worry that maybe it's wrong that it hasn't affected me as much. I don't know, I kind of prepared myself a little when they told us in February that she had chronic liver disease and there wasn't anything they could do about it. I knew she was going die then and I could see her slowly going away all this time. :|

I wouldn't worry about it, Jeanie.
Grieving is a very personal thing. Some people just internalize it more. It doesn't mean that's the wrong way to grieve.

Been sorting through Grandma's boxes, she had a full fancy dinner set with a serving spoon. Mum thinks she was going to give it Johnny and I for our wedding because she told her when we got engaged she already had something and always said fancy full dinner sets were the best presents to give at weddings.
Now I'm eating cookies.

Thank you.
My cousins kids aren't really doing too good, well the youngest he's only 2 so he doesn't really know whats happened but the oldest is 5 and he keeps saying to his Mum "I used to watch Harry Potter with Grandma", they told him she's a star so he has to look at the stars now every night before he goes to bed. There is actually a star somewhere that's Grandma's, my brother bought her one of those gift things where you get to claim a star as your own.
They might be coming down tomorrow, my cousins going to see Grandma at the chapel of rest and I said if he couldn't find anyone to look after them I'd look after them for him because I can't go and see her I know I wouldn't be able to handle it.

The funeral is on Wednesday, I keep thinking maybe I'll be ok after the funeral because I know I'm going to be crying the whole time, I haven't really cried that much so I think maybe I'll do it all during the funeral and then you know get on with it. Life has to go on and I don't think she'd want us to not move on and keep going. We're carrying out every wish we knew she had, like being buried under a tree and things.

I'm not sure, I haven't seen it yet. My mum went with my Dad and got the plot and all she told me was she found one under a tree.
