I'm glad The Master is coming back. I really see him as the Yang to The Doctor's Yin and they're both not complete without each other. I don't ship them romantically, but I do pair them basically as 'brothers' in my mind.
I wouldn't mind if Captain Jack Harkness came back, either, for a spell. (He's not busy with Torchwood's rights being up in the air at the moment). Plus I would love to see Jack's reaction to Nine, Ten, and now Eleven.

Whoa, it's about time Hot Topic started selling Doctor Who merch! They're pretty much the emporium of all things pop culture, and I'd been so disappointed in them for not selling anything DW-related years ago!
My favorite has got to be the Nyan Tardis!

BBC News - Doctor Who's latest companion is unveiled
I haven't seen Jenna-Louise in anything, not being a big soap fan, but she sounds enthusiastic so that's good. Hopefully we'll get to find something out about the character without spoiling the mystery.
There's a longer article on the Telegraph's website but it looks more spoilery for series 7.
Edit: Have since found out I have sort of seen/heard Jenna in something as she's the English language voice actress for Melia in Xenoblade Chronicles. Might have to dust off the Wii for a reminder.

I just saw pictures of the new companion today. Moffat has a thing for young and pretty girls, doesn't he? Not that there's anything wrong with young and pretty, I was just hoping we'd maybe.. well.. get someone who looked a little bit more mature? She looks reallyzyoung. Hopefully her character will make up for that I guess.. I'll reserve any more judgement till I see her act. :x
Also hello! I've been away for a while, real life and all that stuff. How is everyone?

Well, all the companions in new Who have been younger women, with the exception of Catherine Tate (and, well, Rory ). I saw something saying this girl is 25, which is older than Billie Piper was when she started playing Rose (and Rose herself was even younger than Billie. Rose was 19). Matt Smith himself was only about 27 when he started playing the Doctor. I'd say her age is pretty par for the course.

Which is exactly why I'd really like an older (or older looking) companion. I mean I guess we have River Song, but still. And I guess I'm bitter cause I'm tired of all the young pretteh laydeez falling in love (or lust) with The Doctor. And maybe I just really miss Donna okay? :gonk:
Bah. The official introduction to her on tumblr made me feel better about it, a little bit. Like I said, I'll reserve judgement. And we'll still have Amy and Rory till xmas at least! I can't believe we have to wait till the fall for new episodes though.. *twiddles thumbs impatiently*

I wonder what they'll be doing for the 50th anniversary. If it doesn't involve a shitton of appearances from old characters, I will be heavily disappointed. :illgetu:

So I got complimented on my T-shirt twice today. However both people had no idea what it was. It's the TARDIS, and then Eleven, Amy, Roman Rory and a Dalek all cat-ized. It was a gift from my roomate from icanhascheezburger. At least the second person had the sense to ask if it was from Hot Topic, which made me think of how somebody mentioned here how Hot Topic finally recently started carrying Doctor Who stuff being the 'pop culture emporium'. It reminds me of a song that isn't genius but it did make the radio for a little while. The chorus matches the title of the song: "Hot Topic is NOT PUNK ROCK" and then it basically lists things like "Hello Kitty Lip Gloss IS NOT PUNK ROCK", etc.

Sigh. I want the next companion to be male, but it seems like the show always needs to have the pretty young female, just like it always needs to have Daleks. Tradition! lol. The companions always seem to be human, as well. Which I understand, from a writer's point of view, that makes sense, because it helps the viewers relate to the character when the character is (for one thing) human and (even more relatably) British. However, in reality I think the Doctor would have had a much more diverse range of companions.
In other news, did anyone watch the Hunger Games yet, and if so, what did you think?

I caught the midnight showing of The Hunger Games last night. I bought each novel, hardcover, the day they were released. I adore dystopian fiction and the Hunger Games trilogy is the cream of the crop as far as what is out right now.
They cut out alot (There is SO much I have to say about that from the not important, to the very important, that I will only discuss it in person.)
The arena (ie "games") bits were pretty much PERFECT.
You also got some extras, like seeing the Gamemakers room, dialague between Presedent Snow and Seneca Crane, Head Gamemaker (that all hinted to the second book), and something that wasn't supposed to happen unti the second book happens at the end of this movie. It was pretty good but there are some things I really would have liked to see tweaked. I give it a B+ and I do smell a sequel (and hopefully the whole trilogy). It was beautiful and well done overall, but at the expense of some detail, and some important relationships being shafted.

There were a few things I didn't care for... Like, the pacing was off... and they never really explained the concept of tesserae, so I bet a lot of people who hadn't read the book where wondering why Gale's name had been entered forty times when he's clearly not that old, haha. Also, I felt like Katniss' friendship with Rue wasn't given enough focus... Just a few things here and there irked me. But so much of it was flawless.
And Jennifer Lawrence *IS* Katniss. No question about it. I had my doubts at first, because I tend to be really protective of my favorite literary characters-- but she was perfectly cast in this movie.

^owo^~?
*Cautiously pokes head in.*
Salutations! Would you like a cup of teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEaaa?
*Chuckles* Sorry, had to. >w<
Ah, *bows* I'm newly returned to Mene after a year+ (2+?) away, and happened to be looking around for places to chat, and maybe get back into the swing of things. And when I saw a topic dedicated to the Doctor, I thought I'd pop by, and take a peek.
I'm part of the American fandom, so I'm probably at least a season behind the relaunch/new era series/whatever volume two is called over in the UK and rest of Europe. The last episode I saw would have been . . . the Christmas episode in the Forest. I don't want to say much more incase anyone around hasn't watched it yet.
Um, I hope I can actually say something interesting and/or insightful about the show, eventually, and it's nice to meet everyone.

Well, if you did, you'd be the first around here. I kid, I kid. Though it's certainly true in my case, I only watch it sporadically, I will say that we do as a whole have a hard time staying on topic. Which, by and large, is fine with me

Hello~~ I love Dr. Who too. :) I don't get to watch it nearly enough though. :(
@Cardinal Biggles I'm in the same boat as you, regarding The Hunger Games. My first thought was, "Hey, that seems real similar to Battle Royale!" when I first heard the synopsis of the series. I still would like to read the series and watch the movie... I wonder if I'll have time to do so before my spring break is over..
On another note, I *really* don't understand how to make the ping thing work..

@Cardinal Biggles: Good to know this is one of the more forgiving topics. ^w^
@Topic in general: I keep hearing mixed things about 'The Hunger Games' movie, and since I haven't read the books . . . *Shrugs* We'll see. I might not go out of my way to see it, nor avoid it, just wait for it to roll around to TV. Or at least not fight as violently as I could if friends try to drag me outside into the burning unholy mess called 'daylight' to see it.
