WELCOME!

To the Pokemon hangout plaza of your wildest dreams-yes, even better than the Pokemon amusement park in Japan...okay, maybe that's a slight exaggeration. This is a hangout/Pokemon battling/discussion thread all rolled into one! Hope you enjoy your stay here at MNPL and good luck on becoming the best trainer there ever was!

A huge spiraling tower that racks the skies above stretches as far as the eyes can see. All around the area is a variety of different facilities, dazzling and almost as overwhelming as the Battle Frontier. Heck, it just was well be that. An attendant dressed in a knee length teal dress rides to you atop a Shiny Garchomp. She elegantly slides of, takes a short bow while sweeping a white and pink cap off her head and smiles.

"Welcome to the Mene National Pokemon League!" The cap reappears on top of a mass of white curls. "I can tell this is your first time at our facilities. Please, feel free to take a look around and whenever you have a question, please be sure to ask our Master Resident, Kalyst." The Garchomp eyes you with a glint of interest and-expectation?

The attendant leaps back onto the Garchomp with ease and, in response, the Garchomp rears it's head. "Be sure to browse through the Main Intro, Rules, National Pal Pad Registry, and Resources/Guides for more info." The attendant smiles and turns away. "If you're more curious come on over and take a look at the Q and A Board. Hope to see you soon, Trainer! The best of luck to you!"

What Is MNPL?

This is a Pokemon thread that's geared towards discussion of the Pokemon metagame in it's current state. This thread is also for chatting it up with other people for DPP friend code requests, trades, Pokegossip and all things Pokemon related. Our focus though remains on the Pokemon competitive aspect, such as team building advice, links to resources, speculation/testing and any member offered guides of Pokemon mechanics/breeding/glitches/fun facts. And, above all, it's a place to chill with other people who love Pokemon and don't mind getting their feet wet in battling.


How Do I Get Involved?


All you have to do is post and you're part of the league! No forms, no restrictions, no requirements-Just come on in, introduce yourself, maybe drop your FC or maybe something spiffy about yourself. As far as people "staffing" this thread, all you have to do is be polite to others who are in here, help me out in setting things up, getting the word out, maybe donate some banners/sigs/ graphics and you can be considered!;)


What Kind Of Contributions Can I Make?

Banners/ Sigs/Buttons. You can also submit me a guide on this thread and I'll link to it under the Resources/Guides Section. Be sure though that it is your own work and not that of someone else's-I'm so much of a Pokedork that I can tell when something's been copied. Posting your FC and giving permission to let people register it allows for it to be listed under the National Pal Pad Registry. And finally, just being a thread regular and contributing to the overall health of the league is the most important contribution you can make.:P



What Systems/Platforms Are Used?


Nintendo DS with D/P/Pt games. PBR or Pokemon Battle Revolution requires that a person has a Wii and while most people probably do, it'd would be safer and alot easier to use your DS. This is just for convenience's sake. This also goes on the assumption that you have Wifi capabilities at your house. While you may not even get Wifi, you can still come it and chat/hangout with us!

8/12/09-The Member Card Event is still going. Check out Serebii for more info on the HG/SS remakes. There is a Celes Special Hangout thread in the event forum right now-link to be coming soon. We need more people to come on by, chat, hangout and battle! If you know anyone who might be interested in the competitive scene or who just have a casual interest in pokemon, please invite them!

8/1/09- The Member Card Wifi Event for the US has been announced! US players of Pokemon Platinum who have Mystery Gift enabled will be able to directly download the Member's Card onto their cart. The event will go from August 3rd to September 13th.

In thread related news, I have edited a few posts already. I will be posting links to some of the sites I frequent and that would benefit any who are interested. They include-Smogon, Serebii, Marriland, Psypoke, Bulbapedia (for event checking purposes) and links to some Youtube Channels for competitive battling. (namely Marriland's channel, Syberia's and mtg Xerxes.)

+ NO HACKS!! I can not stress this enough. Please don’t trade or battle for/with hacks-if anyone is suspicious of a hack, they must allow a thread mod to hack check it. If you are using a hacking device for things such as IV Checking or Fast Hatch, please do not let it be widely known. The thread Masters will not be pleased with you so don’t do it. You may discuss what defines a hack or how you can tell what is/isn’t hacked but other than that don’t go though the physical motions of hacking and spread the data around to others.

+ Battles will have the following clauses standard UNLESS otherwise specified by the person you’re battling-

OHKO Clause-Moves such as Horn Drill, Sheer Cold and Fissure are not allowed as well as any other moves that instantly kill in one shot. Their accuracy is low anyways, so why use them?

Species Clause- No more than one of any species of Pokemon on a team at a time. No two Lucarios on a team-however, you can have a Riolu and a Lucario because, while they’re in the same evolutionary family, they are separate species.

Sleep Clause-No more than one Pokemon can be asleep at any time. This does NOT count towards the one only if you of your opponent puts their own Pokemon to sleep by any sleep inducing methods such as Spore, Sweet Kiss or Rest. Also included as a sub rule is the Freeze Clause, meaning that no more than one Poekmon at a time can be frozen, but freeze rarely happens.

Evasion Clause- This is including Moves such as Double Team or Minimize to increase evasion. Moves such as Acupressure are allowed, as they only boost one type of stat randomly. Moves that reduce accuracy, such as Sand Attack and abilities such as Sand Veil/Snow Cloak are allowed.

Ubers Clause- The following Pokemon are NOT allowed to be played UNLESS otherwise specified by the person you’re battling-Mewtwo, Mew, Ho-Oh, Lugia, Kyogre, Groudon, Deoxys (ALL forms) Latios, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina (both Formes) Darkrai, Shaymin (Sky Forme), Arceus and Wobuffet. Modified versions of this rule, such as allowing one uber only on a team, are usually some of the off-shot rules people play by. Pokemon that are legendaries but are not considered to be Ubers and allowed for standard play are-Zapados, Articuno, Moltres, Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Celebi, Regice, Regirock, Registeel, Latias, Jirachi, Uxie, Mesprit, Azelf, Regigigas Cresselia, Heatran, Shaymin (Land Forme), and Rotom (ALL forms).

On top of that, the Ubers Clause dos not apply in Uber battles where an entire ubers team is fully legal.

+ If a DC happens, repeat the same moves that you made before the DC. This is only fair. Do not DC on purpose-besides it doesn’t help you become better. Analyze what you did wrong and learn from it.

+ The tier list from Smogon is what this league follows, with the exception of Garchomp. This is the only Pokemon that every trainer determines by their own tastes. This League does not ban nor condone the use of Garchomp-rather it is up to the trainers discretion in using him.

Smogon

A site I highly recommend for both newbies and seasoned veterans to the competitive scene. With a wide variety of articles, Pokemon movesets, analysis and forums to engage in various competitive planning/discussion, I'm hard pressed to say there's anything better.

Serebii

One of the top sites I go to for news on practically everything Pokemon related as well as info on the cards, manga, anime and games. Includes a Pokedex, forums (of course) and a bunch of other neat features such as a stat calculator for your hidden IV's.

Psypoke

Similar to Serebii, except with a psychic persuasion...ehehe. Again, nicely laid out Pokedex, forums, and other Pokemon related goodies. This site revolves more around the gaming aspect and provides some really neat walkthroughs that Serebii seems to lack.

Theres quite a few Pokemaniacs where I live. And a few who I've shown mine, are surprised to find its gotten more tactical. o w o

@Bartuc: It now gets more into depth with the training though only if you want to. Where you battle certain Pokemon to boost certain stats. From what I hear, Garchomp is pretty much unbeatable if trained this way. Though I do miss the simplicity of raising Pokemon. I can't wait for Soul Silver and Heart Gold. > w <

Bartuc-hahaha, it changed with the years, I guess. All that booming with internet and networking? Maybe that had something to do with it. It wasn't so "advanced" as it is now...*shrugs* I miss it too sometimes, but it keeps things interesting.

Rabbit- Garchomp isn't invincible though-no Pokemon really is and anything "invincible" is things like Spiritomb and Sableye. Chompy though is actually considered rather overpowered which is why he got moved to Ubers according to Smogon's tier listing. You have to know how to train him, but it'll take too long to explain, lol

And SQUEEEE on Heart Gold and Soul Silver. I really can't wait for those to come out next year *fan girl scream*

I train my Pokemon with moves that aren't expected, like a grass Pokemon with a rock type attack. It makes it a formiddable opponant for a fire type. = w =

The basics of the element of surprise. Ah, it's such a classic-like for example a dragon type with a fire attack that makes any ice types think twice about switching in. Like Garchomp's Fire Fang. Unless you had something speedy (like Froslass) or something a bit bulky than can take hits (like Walrein) Fire Fang would ruin any ice types that try to come in on it and finish it off.

Yeah. I'm training a new team right now. My favorite was my friends Surf-using Rhydon. I was so surprised I couldn't think right. xD Unfortunately he disconnected on me from poor connection. I should tell him of this League. He'll love it. = w =

The really sad thing for me was when I was Battling Cynthia and I sent out an Absol, thinking that she couldn't do much with a Spiritomb. Yek, I didn't know it could use Silver Wind, which kills Dark types *cries inside* My Absol survived, but I still went through a WTF moment.

I'm brutal with the Elite Four. I've always been since the first Red Version. I obliterated Cynthia. Though her Lucario caused a few problems. xD Gr, and I felt the need to start over.

Lucario isn't fun all around to be against. Fun to use, because he's very versatile, but other wise...anyone who uses him right isn't a great thing to go against. *Laughs* ahaha, which reminds me...do you have wifi available at your house? I know I completely forgot to put my FC up which I should do sometimes soon...*hits self*

I do, but it's not strong enough for my DS, but a friend of mine asked me to put up hers if thats okay.

? Not strong enough? Usually, I establish connections if the other person's signal is weaker.. If you want, I can set it up. lol. Ooooh, okays, as long as you're using that one, that's cool.

Hmmm, figured that it'd be alright to update this thread a bit and let anyone know it's still around *laughs* I will be updating the resources section, establishing an event soon and actually get my stinking FC up like I was supposed to roflmao.

The upcoming event in the works with either be a Midgets Tourney (meaning that only LV 5 pokemon allowed) or Mono Run (Where you create a team using pokemon of one type exclusively)

*Looks around nervously* here's to hoping that none of the staff will kills me much for posting a second time in a row, even though it's been loooong past a day or so...

On a happier note the Member's Card event is finally coming out for the US!! *does a happy jig* details on that to be coming shortly!

I've updated the Pal Pad thing with my FC so know you all can swamp me with requests and exchanges, lol. I'm also going to update the announcements, maybe add another section to the thread and see if anyone else is interested in the League.

Right now, I'm also currently soft resetting for a Shiny Darkrai. *laughs* I stayed up late last night just to get it when it was released over wifi...such a nerd...><
