Oscar the Wild 09-07-2009 12:39 AM

Well, it has a B, K, and Y in it, so yeah. :)

@Facade: Is that the one with Stephen Fry in it? I want to see that one. The Picture of Dorian Gray is an excellent book, though Dorian is quite the jackass. I hear they're making a movie version coming out sooh and I can't wait to go see it!

Marguerite Blakeney 09-07-2009 12:41 AM

There's also an A and a couple of E's...

Oscar the Wild 09-07-2009 12:42 AM

I keep forgetting about the vowels. XD Doesn't "Y" count as a vowel, or not?

For-Chan Cookie 09-07-2009 12:44 AM

Vowels are a, e, i, o, u, and sometimes y XD

Like in rye. *shrugs*

Facade 09-07-2009 12:45 AM

I dunno if it is the one with Stephen Fry or not (are there multiple movies about Oscar Wilde? ._.), but his name certainly does sound familiar. D: So maybe? xD;

And I heard about the movie based on Dorian Gray! That would totally make me want to read the frammin' book. xD

Oscar the Wild 09-07-2009 12:47 AM

@For-chan: Thanks! Mmm, rye bread....

@Facade: The book really isn't that long. I could give you the long and short of it, if you want. There is a lot of subtext between Dorian and quite a few guys, and I'm getting the impression that Basil (that guy who paints the titular portrait) has a thing for Dorian. Considering it's Oscar Wilde who wrote it, I'm not surprised.

Facade 09-07-2009 12:50 AM

Yeah, I remember hearing about the homosexual undertones... xP

I have the book - it was part of my summer reading list sophomore year, although I didn't read it. Instead, I read Jane Eyre. Which, might I add, is a huge ass book. @[email protected]

And I loved Jane Eyre - although I'm sure I'm the only d00d who loved it. xD;

For-Chan Cookie 09-07-2009 12:54 AM

@Oscar - I don't like rye bread ._. There's something about it that just does not appeal to me.

Facade 09-07-2009 12:58 AM

I looove rye bread! I hate white bread. ._.

For-Chan Cookie 09-07-2009 01:00 AM

@Facade = D: No white bread at all? No French or Italian breads. No soft squishy rolls? Nothing?

Facade 09-07-2009 01:02 AM

Sorry, I should've specifically said WHITE BREAD... D:
I dee kay how to differentiate between the white bread I'm thinking of and decent "white bread'. xP

I hate that Stroehman's/etc. white bread. Basically the standardized 'loaf of white bread' concept of white bread. ;3

Although I'm a huge fan of baguettes, Italian breads, and good rolls (I'm from Philly, and it's more or less common knowledge that Philadelphians know their rolls... xD).

Marguerite Blakeney 09-07-2009 01:08 AM

I love bread ;__; Especially with olive oil or butter. Oy, my hips!

XD I had a friend who took an AP English class and she had to read Jane Eyre. She hated it. I've never finished the book, really. Too lazy.

@For-chan: ...I don't think I've ever eaten rye bread, but it sounds yummy. ^_^ White bread and wheat bread are definitely tasty. Mmm. Bread.

@Marguerite: Mmm. Like at Italian restaurants, when they give you rolls and a dish of oil with some spices in it? Oh man, that's just heavenly, right there.

Marguerite Blakeney 09-07-2009 01:10 AM

OMG, girl you're killing me. I wish I could go out and go to Olive Garden right now but my mom took my car to work again. Thank God I don't have school tomorrow morning!

Now I'm craving baguettes to make mushroom crostini. Ugh. <33333333

For-Chan Cookie 09-07-2009 01:12 AM

@Facade - I'm ok with standard loaf white bread. I prefer a good French or Italian loaf for a sandwich though. Or wheat bread. I really like wheat bread, especially if there's lots of whole grains in it. I like the little crunch of it.

In one of my sociology courses, we saw this movie about white bread in relation to people. And basically it talked about how people want white bread. Even if they're given artisan breads at food banks, they don't want it. They want the standard cheap ass white bread loafs, because that's the only kind of bread that exists for them.

It reminds me of something one of my managers said when we went out to eat. They put a fancy lettuce on her sandwich and she was like "I don't want this crap! I want "real" lettuce!" And by real lettuce, she meant iceburg lettuce. =/ I prefer romaine myself.

Ah, ignorance. *shakes head*

@Oscar - It just seems bitter to me. I don't like it.

@Mar-Mar - My brother took my car! I couldn't go out even if I wanted to! Not that I ever really go out. I truly am a hermit. But now the option is gone! D:

Facade 09-07-2009 01:12 AM

I took AP English, but we got to read interesting stuffs. P:

Honors English Grade 10 was the year we read Jane Eyre/Silas Marner/The Scarlet Pimpernel (LADY BLAKENEY! luls)/Dorian Gray.

AP English 11 Composition, we read Beloved (again, I LOVED Beloved, but everyone who DID read it despised it... which is understandable, but I loved it nonetheless), Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, The House on Mango Street, This Boy's Life, Where are You Going, Where Have you Been, and Geeks...

Yeah, I totally just took the books down from the shelf to make sure I remembered 'em all... @[email protected]

For senior year (AP English 12 - World Lit), we have to read Demian, Hedda Gabler, Heart of Darkness, and Winesburg, Ohio...

@Chan/Cookie/What-should-I-call-you? xD: Ugh, I hate iceburg! I LOVE romaine! And standard white bread is just bleh. :<

Marguerite Blakeney 09-07-2009 01:14 AM

Artisan bread?! Who would be stupid enough to give up artisan bread? That stuff is BOMB!

I remember one time my mom cooked steaks at our old house and we had rye bread. I toasted it and dipped it in olive oil. That was SOOOO good!

I just want mushrooms now. I'm about to head off and eat some stuffed bell peppers for supper. Mmmmm!

@For-chan: Bitter? Hm. I might just stick with white and wheat bread, then. They're so good.

@Facade: Those books you've mentioned sound interesting. I just want to read The Scarlet Pimpernel, due to being mentioned on Blackadder. I haven't taken AP English and I won't. Dx I'm taking English Honors instead. I just hope we read something by Lord Byron. [/fangirl]

Facade 09-07-2009 01:22 AM

I love to dip bread in olive oil...

Hell, I love dipping bread in ANYTHING (so long as it tastes good... ._.)!

That's one of my favorite aspects of Indian food, actually - the bread. D: Oh lawdy, it's heavenly~ Especially this one kind that's spinach-flavored... -drools-

For-Chan Cookie 09-07-2009 01:24 AM

@Facade - For-Chan or Cookie is fine XD I don't hate iceburg, but now that I have just that, I miss having nice crunchy romaine. Of course, I don't wish we had more of it because our vegetable drawer is a place where veggies go to die! My mom will buy a big bag of salad mix, not eat it and bam, it's dead -_-

And yes, the white bread standard is just...well, I say it's ignorance. It's pretty damn sad what it says about our society. =P

@Mar-Mar - People eat what they know. If all they ever know is white bread, they're only ever going to reach for it instead of some rough flying sauce shaped bread that's in a paper bag.

@Oscar - Go ahead, prove my point. Live in your box XD You gotta try things girl. You can't just take someone else's word for it.

Marguerite Blakeney 09-07-2009 01:26 AM

Oh god, here we go again talking about food!

edit: Finally finished coding the banners as well. : )

For-Chan Cookie 09-07-2009 01:28 AM

@Mar-Mar - It is inevitable that we come to this! We always come to this! I bet all the other threads do this too XD

Marguerite Blakeney 09-07-2009 01:30 AM

Cookie dearest: I know, but we're the best at it, hands down!

For-Chan Cookie 09-07-2009 01:32 AM

@Mar-Mar - Well, we need food to keep us going! :D It's so yummy. Actually, we always talk about yummy food. Let's talk about yucky food. What's the worst thing you ever ate?

Marguerite Blakeney 09-07-2009 01:34 AM

Shiiiiiiiiiit...this goes with the ant problem that we've been having for the past couple of weeks.

Anyway I was 6 years old, all right? We went to this bakery where I bought some cookies. When we got home, I forgot we even had them, so by the time I figured out that I had cookies, I popped one in my mouth. It tasted REALLY spicy or something - burning really badly that I was crying, and it turns out that ants had been all over my cookies. I dunno if my mom sprayed Raid on them or something because at this point I can't even remember what they looked like, other than they were M&M cookies.

I had my mouth washed out with soap and water after that.

Anyway I'll be gone for a little while because I'm gonna make myself some crab cakes for dinner.
